Was wondering if anybody had a good handle on buying a new car? Or maybe somebody who works in car sales.

Going into a VW dealership this evening.

The Mrs had a Tiguan on a 3 year PCP, the equity in the car paid the deposit on the next Tiguan after the bubble payment was repaid.

This Tiguan is due to go back in 3 month and had the defeat device fitted (got a letter saying it will need to go in to be patched this year).

I've had a quick look and it looks like the current car has lost a bit of equity (less resale value than the last one which was a lower spec).

I've already told the sales guy when I booked the appointment that we are probably going to be looking at an X3 next time.

Really happy to stay with a Tiguan but was just wondering how strong my hand is?

I used to have a Tiguan. Got rid of it in the end tho. Couldn't get it past 70, going up hill!

No good to me as we live at 95... :S

You know what, that's not far from the truth but, hey, the wife likes it.

Might be a way to travel, but Arnold Clark in Kendal are good. See graham Shirley if you go there, that's my stepdad and he will sort you out if you find something that you fancy

Just be careful with VW. If the EU says they all need emission adjustments and you bought one after you knew about the issues you could be liable rather than VW. If you decide to go ahead your hand should be very strong, sales in the US have fallen 70% and have dipped very sharply across Europe

Cheers Marko, was totally unaware that I could be liable. Think the new cars should be fine though?

Be sure to go near the end of the day, and never accept their first finance offer. Negotiate, you'll be surprised how much they will knock off when they are wanting to get home!

Ask to take a test drive which should kill some time. Also tell them you're torn between the car you actually want, and another similar car, that they don't sell.

To add to this mate, also go in the last few days of the month rather than first half of month. It's better for you as a buyer as the dealers have targets to hit every end of month

Thanks for asking Chopper.

Got on pretty shit really, the guy I talked to wasn't a sales guy and spent half the time scurrying to ask his manager.

The car is worth £1.5k less on trade in than the last one and is a higher spec. I said to him, look that's not a problem of my making, it's down to your dishonesty and he had no answer, just agreed.

He did try and say it's because of the new shape coming out this summer so I asked if the new cars (old shape) would be cheaper as well due to this fact and he said he didn't know.

All in all, a waste of time, he actually made it more likely that i'll end up going for an X1.

I've got a sales guy ringing me today so i'll see if he's any better.

By the sounds of it, you couldn't get much worse a dealer. That's disappointing really from somewhere like vw
