TOPIC: Could have sold 20,000

Thinking that we have sold 17K of which roughly 3,600 are allocated to Everton. When Liverpool came in 89, they easily sold their allocation of 6,500 so if we had a larger ground and increased the away allocation we could have sold over 20,000. I know these games don't come around very often but kind of blows the theory of some that say a 10k capacity stadium would be enough. Also gives a sense of our potential too. I know we will have a lot of people there on Sunday who won't have been for years, and won't normally return for years however there are clubs that we compete with in our league that would struggle to get 5-6k home supporters there which shows the additional potential we have as a club over a lot of our peers.

Totally agree. The potential is there but decades of being content in the lower reaches don't help us and no real ambition to grow either.
I hope our next owners see what we see.

I'd love to see which posters happily said there is no chance of a sell out. People really need to think big and see the potential.

We have underachieved for 29 years, we could have sold 20k plus for the Leeds match as well. By the law of averages we need a few seasons to be punching above our weight in the Championship/Premiership. We've only been on par for about 4 of of those 29 seasons which I consider challenging for the playoffs in League 1.

If you could build grounds because you may potentially fill them now and again Wembley would have a 300k capacity.

You don't do a Darlington and build something 9 times higher than your average crowd but you do have to recognise ambition and potential. Carlisle can get 20k crowds but that is our top end. A good Carlisle team over a period of time and growth are more than capable of averaging 10k plus home fans in the top two divisions if they grow and develop over a period of time. For those reasons and many others, I would target a 15,000 capacity. Anything less than 13 would be a statement of clubs intentions for the future and a real shame.

Depends whos in charge Pete. 13k would be bloody amazing from these lot. i fully expect 10k if it ever happens which i very much doubt.

I agree 20k is too big and 15k is about right for us. Most of us know our potential can't be realised stuck in the bottom two divisions for 30 years but that's the crux of the matter. Some fans see that as our level and don't aspire for higher.
Look at Wigan , Swansea, Bournemouth and even the likes of Burnley to see what we should be aiming for rather than a Scunthorpe , Rochdale or Shrewsbury

So we need a very rich benefactor or in Swanseas case a lot of well off people

Depends what defines a big or small club. Were prob somewhere between the 60 to 80th biggest club in the Country. Does that make us big or small?

Well if I was a young player who`d been playing league 1, say at Crewe for instance or league 2 say, Barnet or Crawley or even Accrington that famous old club , and I rocked up at CU for a chat with a view to signing, I`d think yeah this is a big club, purely on the evidence of seeing the stadium...........which everybody else thinks is cr*p apparently.

We have a pessimistic board and a divided fan base.
I used to resent Wigan but I must admit I really admire what they achieved. They now consider league one beneath them. They would have killed for that level in the 90s.
