For Southern-based fans there is an interesting quirk in rail ticket prices that might suit a few people. I have bought an off-peak day return ticket from Swindon to Newport for only £18. It costs £5 to park at Swindon station at weekends. There are fast trains every hour from Swindon taking about 50 minutes and the Newport County ground is 10 minutes walk across the bridge from the station.

£18 return compares with much higher prices from Reading, Paddington etc so for me it is an irresistible bargain.

I didn't realise it was a 1pm kick off - so have booked a specific train which won't get me there in time. I'm planning to just get on an earlier one with my later ticket - explain the situation, and hope the ticket inspector takes pity on me rather than trying to make me pay again.

The BBC seem to have changed their weather forecast and there may not be much more rain until Saturday. It will be colder and still breezy so at the moment the game should be on but the pitch will be a mudbath. Cue for Curle's long ball tactics again with Gilliead on the bench.

Well that was eventful...

Some poor sod jumped in front of a train just North of Crewe at about 08:30 yesterday morning. All trains stopped. We were between Warrington and Crewe when it occurred (Think it was the train in front of ours). So sat for a bit then taken back to Warrington, then put on a bus to Crewe. Arrived at Crewe just after another missed connection, so sent on a detour via Birmingham! Got to Newport just after 14:00! Taxi to ground and as we were walking to turnstile heard the roar of the Newport goal! Got in on 58mins!

At least the way back was uneventful...

Train isn't an option really as things like what happened to ccu can happen and far too expensive. cusat get a lot of criticism but they are the only ones that guarantee a coach to every game

I do enjoy trains, when I lived in Lancashire I either drove or got the train, saved me travelling to come back on myself twice in the car. But for the price of a train nowadays, I prefer money myself rather than paying more for a similar (in many cases) journey.
The only thing that would swing a choice between coach and train is the fact you can drink on a train, but when you look at places like York where it's £30 extra for train to the coach, then I'm happy to stay sat on a coach. There's no malarkey with connections, and hassle free. Take it that means I'm a social leper

Used the train plenty times in 25years of going away, that's the first time I've missed a KO.

In that time I've heard of the buses not getting to a destination a couple of times, and being late to a few others!

Think my tickets were £37.50 on Sat (Advance bookings), so probably similar to the Bus?

Apart from welling.

Theres always one clever one! i presume the train ran fine that day as well.

People name calling over how you get to an away match is a bit pathetic if you ask me.

Ive been on the train a few times had issues when i have gone on the east coast. I prefer the ease of a coach, gets me to the ground and i don't have to faff on with taxis etc.

Train wouldn't be too bad if we could get back home after a 3pm kickoff on a Saturday. Coach is always due at least 2 hours before kickoff so ample time for a drink. We got to Newport at 10.15 on Saturday for example

Wazza	Aye it's bad luck with the 2041 carry on from Preston. Don't know how folk from out west or east manage mind, would do my head in not being able to go south directly by train. Should play every Carlisle and Plymouth game at 1pm to an extent, help people loads.
