Hi

I've finally put everything in 1 place, as suggested by this msgboard. carlislefanrep.wordpress.com/

Comments are welcome but all will need approving by me before they show up and anything abusive or containing swearing will not be approved.

As i said a few weeks ago everyone on this board has an email address and can therefore contact me directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I share the frustration of the board meeting briefing, out of my control I'm afraid but I have been assurred it will be today or tomorrow. Weekly, moderated chats were offered; i recall weekly was deemed to be too frequent and I left this for this board to arrange with Mike. As Mike is moving on I will contact whoever takes over.

Best wishes,
Claire

As you know Claire I don't like a lot of things ;) but this is good, even if you do get RSI having to scroll, having everything in one place and a comments board is a big plus.

Shit.The.Bed. Praise indeed! Cheers. I've obv no idea what I'm doing with it so please stick with me while I'm figuring it out. If you've got a link to the chat i did on here or the Q's I answered for the other board I'm happy to add them too (can you tweet the to me if possibe?). The radio cumbria stuff is only available on iplayer for 30days so when i next go on I'll add that link.

Everything I've set up / started will easily be transferred to the next person who has this role.

Not decided yet Flatcap. The club & CUSG have been supportive with recent & surprising changes personally (I'll not go all Jeremy Kyle and go into details) to ensure the role is unaffected. But during this first term all the processes had to be established anyway for whoever takes over as it isn't a forever position, this just follows the email & twitter account.

Dishing out praise to Claire twice this week  but i agree its refreshing to here someone talk about it and i can't praise Claire enough for talking about it.

I'm autistic and have struggled with anxiety and OCD all my life. However Claire's bit i read about using it as an advantage, when she got the position, was correct and Claire's previous mental health issues wasn't a concern to me at all, it was the other things ;) Having OCD has been beneficial to me in i'm the most organized person I know and like things to be exactly right, its why issues at cufc cause me to be annoyed, not good for anyones health.

I suffer from depression...a strange thing but its a weird thing to explain to folk how it all manifests in the head....Getting less episodes of the crap feelings now thankfully but im quite open about it. A lot of folk are surprised i have it.. (all that moaning doesnt bring it on) i do generally come across as happy most of the time to friends.

I'm pleased you & Mullen have spoken about your experiences. Men are a challenge to get to access help available so by you talking about it will make a difference to someone else. Mental ill health isn't about being weak, it's an illness that doesn't care who you are, what you do for a job or how much money you have.

Thank you.

Does the club still help with this?

www.cumberlandfa.com/cufc-mental-health-football-programme

We're not great at being involved in bigger national programmes. As recent events prove, our participation in the anti-racism Kick It Out thing never seemed terribly enthusiastic. Maybe the club could do some stuff with CALM, the men's mental health campaign?

My mother suffered depression for many many years. As a teen it was very difficult to understand, probably awful for my dad. I decided that it would not blight my life like it did hers. I do get low sometimes, probably as we all do from time to time, but I've learned to see it for what it is to me. A book I would recommend to anyone who has these sort of issues is "The curse of the strong" by Christopher Cantor. It explains that those who suffer depression are not weak, In fact, often the very opposite, They are peolple who simply over stretch themselves mentally in everyday life until they break. A really good read, not a long boring tome, only a hundred pages or so, but very interesting.

Yep the MH football group still runs on a Tues. It is brilliant. We (i work in the community mental health team) regularly recommend it to people and support people who where needed who would like to. John H is very passionate about the groups pf people the Community Sports Trust support. I wrote about that in the Everton programme.

You're absolutely right Bruntonpasty. Some of my work has been with Veterans...I'm not sure we'd ever describe them as weak either.

I've been lucky to work with some very inspirational people who have put trust in me/my colleagues when they couldn't trust anyone. In return I've loaned them the hope I have that they will recover while they struggle to find their own hope.

Cumbria has more suicides than the national average. We have to become more confident in seeking help. I think it's great we are talking about it here.

You know what, it takes guts and humour to go out there and make yourself known to folk.
It takes no guts and no humour to sit behind anonymously behind a computer keyboard and criticise her for what she wears.

Absolutely Mark, dodgy hats are pretty well compulsory at football.

Quite calm Mashie, it's Sunday. I guess its all about time and place, in 'real' life many folk acuse me of always smiling and being happy but that obviously doesn't come over on here. Where as sometimes folks 'friendly banter' comes over as sniping and rude. When its done face to fac3 you know where you are with people most of the time. In cyberspace it's more difficult to judge.

Personally I would like this board, and the one that Griff runs to thrive, I think it's important that there are independent forums where fans can air their views. Speaking with people at the last few matches, some of whom used to post, I got a lot of negative feedback (one of the reasons I posted the 'Have we lost our way' thread). I was told again and again,
it was cliquey,
Posters were too nasty
A lot of negative posts about matches that posters hadn't been too.
Whatever the thread started with it always ended up in posters arguing with each other, as opposed to discussing things.

I do try and stick up for the message boards but there do seem to be a fair few posters leaving over the last few months.

Don't think it's cliquey, myself. Just think it's not as good as previous boards (no private message facility or notifications, no option to post pictures unless you use that rubbish app). Think that would spoil the experience for some folk?

To be fair I don't think it's cliquey either but it does seem to be the perception a lot of people have, I also agree re the points you make about this board but they weren't mentioned by the people I talked to re why they didn't post/had stopped posting. The most common reason seemed to be the feeling that posters were ridiculed and other peoples opinions were not respected.

Thank you Bumble, it does take a lot of confidence to dress like i am at matches, i don't want to be a stuffy person who isn't approachable. Me dressing like a "clown" is hopefully a way of me showing i don't take life too seriously, can giggle at myself & it has helped as a conversation starter. That'll do for starters.

Plus imagine what clobber I'll have for the next person by the time I move on!!!

It was only a bit of friendly 'bants' as you know Claire. Dressing like a clown's a bit extreme! A high vis and purple hat ain't that bad

You should be applauded for putting yourself out there doing the role Claire. With the Cumbrian negative mentality you're always going to get some people moaning whatever you do...keep up the good work! B)

Good on you for saying that publicly Mark. I'd never have had an outgoing, outspoken guy like you as suffering. Hope it speaks to a few others.

Admitting to myself, and to others, that I was struggling was the best thing I ever did. Managing it is a full time job still, but far better than the alternative.

Claire's hat is nowhere near as bad as any of Griff's. I'll excuse the one he wore on Saturday, at least it was blue.

It's a challenge moorlad; I'll find another to make you cringe before the end of the season. Claire - wear the hat with pride!

Bumble - one of these days I'll give you a shout from the paddock. I don't bite.

Aye, you were directly in front of us for a while on Saturday and neither of us said anything. To be fair you always look busy even when you're chatting to folk. But one of these days you'll have the dubious pleasure of both of us descending on you.

Anyone is welcome to give me a shout. I'm usually happy to chat when I'm doing fan pics at home games, I have perfected the art of looking busy over the years, one of the skills I'm most proud of, mainly it' a cover.

Sometimes I can go a bit blank. I say that is because I'm making calculations re camera speed, light, depth of field etc as I chat, cos I'm female I multi-task. However it's just as likely I don't know the answer to the question :)

Although I doubt praying would do much good in my case.

You've certainly made me depressed ever since I met you with your constant whingeing. :(
