To anyone at the game... How'd we play? Osei sounds promising.

I was at the game and for me, Hery was very good with the ball at his feet, dicker and kearns were good when they came on and Thompson made some good runs down the wing which were ignored quite alot. Tom Miller looked solid, albeit it was against a weak opposition.

First-half was a bit of a slog, thought that Kennedy and Joyce were combative but very sloppy with their passing at times.
Back-four never really looked under threat though - McQueen looked good again, linked up well with the wingers infront of him. Brough very solid too, Raynes dominated in the air and CMW's distribution was decent though he doesn't look particularly fit, got caught out by a ball over the top at one point.

Hery looks a decent acquisition - good on the ball, clearly has a decent football brain on him and got in some good position (should have scored with one chance). Balanta didn't look great to me - first game so maybe harsh to judge, but didn't strike me as a player who will make a big imapct.
Asamoah was very lively and Calvert at centre-back struggled to cope with his pace despite being about 12 years younger. Took his goal well. Wyke disappoint - pretty weak and bullied by Kyle May for most of the half.

Second-half we started to get a bit more of a grip on the game and I can't remember Gillespie having to make a save. Miller at right-back was better than at Blyth but didn't look better than McQueen (who slotted in quite comfortably at left-back for a short period of the second-half). Grainger was solid and also setup the second goal with a brilliant long ball. Hammell came on for McQueen at left-back which was a baffling change - not sure what Curle will have learned from putting an attacking-midfielder who looks technically very good on the ball in that position. Matty Douglas replaced Raynes late on and didn't look out of place.

Joyce and Kennedy picked up a bit but were replaced by Dicker and Sweeney - Dicker in particular played pretty well and played some decent balls into the box. Joe Thompson looks pretty good on the ball but should have taken on his man a few more times - as mentioned above, he did get into space a few times but wasn't picked out. Osei on the other wing looks lively - definitely has something about him and with a bit more work on his fitness, might be worth a deal. Took his goal very well, could have played for the penalty but still poked it in. Ibhere put himself about and let May with a bloodied head after his first aerial challenge - he's not one who will be afraid of the physical side of things but that's something we already knew before he signed. He only seemed to get about 25 mins before being replaced by Beck who toiled upfront a bit but in fairness, got very little support as a lone striker (and not much decent delivery from the wings.

The new trialist Walker looks a lot like Dempsey from distance but sadly isn't anywhere near as good. Some nice touches but considering he was a winger, I'm not sure I remember him putting a single ball into the box. Kearns on the other hand, looked impressive again and finished it well for his goal. I'd like to see Curle give him a chance at the start of the season - if he needs another winger, sign Osei and then we've got him, Balanta and Kearns to choose from if necessary.

All in all, a pretty routine win. Reds play some nice football but there's not much cutting edge. We resorted to a bit too much long ball at time which better teams will deal with comfortably. When we got it down and played down the wings we caused a few problems.

A good summing up, i thought Reds tried to make a game of it first half, but a comfortable second half for Carlisle

Ah wait, just read your message again - you might have been referring to Grainger who wore number 15 - Douglas is a youth team player who came on with about 10 minutes to go.

I thought Raynes was our best player tonight comfortably. Also thought Kearns, Dicker, Thompson, Brough, Asamoah and Ibehre were good.

Didn't think Osei had a particularly good game overall, took his goal well but other than that he was very average. The new trialist does indeed look very like Dempsey, Jon Colman tweeted before the game that a League One clubs are interested. I think he has something about him, great touch and shot and he was unlucky to see it hit the bar. Hope he gets more game time at Penrith.

Meppen-Walter and Mark Beck were poor.

Really impressed with Kearns tonight... He's onviously a talented lad and if Curle can get his head out of his backside which on the last 2 games evidence there's signs he has he'll be an asset! Lovely feet, beats his man comfortably and took his goal well... As said Joyce, Kennedy very combative but distribution wasn't fantastic... I'll forgibe them on their first outing definitely more to come.

Impressed with Raynes... Just a defender who likes to defend! Nothing fancy quite like that... Shame Troy isn't fit enough to play most games as them two could be a solid foundation!

Think McQueen's a real coup... He's got a little bit of swagger but again does the right things.... Good competition at full back and lovely balance with 2 left footers & two right! Although playing McQueen Left full back and Miller right might not be a bad option!

Osei done ok, did well for his goal, looks to have some class but may be a player who frustrates!

Thompson I think will make a good squad player, quite an intelligent runner... There's some good technical ability in the side so it'd be a shame for Curle to go hoofball!

Hery's got a lovely footballing brain and could well be an important player but again don't waste him by lumping it 60 yards over his head...

Ibehre was ok... Just a bully up top which isn't a bad thing in League 2

Quite excited by the new signings overall, he's building a decent enough squad but we've yet to be tested... Any positive results from each of the Preston, Bradford & Oldham friendlies will set us up nicely

Would like to see another Centre half through the door or even keep Troy.... CMW doesn't do ut for me! Undoubted talent but just never looks comfortable.... beaten easily again by a long balls

Not sure if anyone mentioned Miller, thought he looked very good when he came on, a right back at last, centre half number 5 did very well, Ibere, is a bully, you wouldn't fancy playing against him, get the right sort of player next to him and they could fill there boots, played with a lot more width and pace than I was expecting, all the new editions offer something, actually looked organised and focused, professional!, would be quite positive for the season if it weren't for the clubs issues with its ownership.
