TOPIC: Fans rep - re: tannoy system at BP

Presume this is the sort of thing which our fans rep can have an influence over. Any chance of getting of someone at the club getting the tannoy sorted at BP, it was embarrassing on Saturday, amatuerish once again.

Can't hear it at all in the Paddock North at the moment.

I'm at the club on Weds, so had planned to raise it then through CUOSC.

Cheers Deano. A well ran club would have someone in Monday morning sorting it as a matter of urgency. Wonder if anyone from the club even noticed it on Saturday?

You could hardly hear it in the East Stand either.

Im about as bothered about the tannoy as i was about Michael Raynes sponsors logo falling off.

At least you can hardly make out the clown screaming 'make some noise.'

As one of the two chaps on the Tannoy (not the "clown that screams" - but the other clown), I can tell you that we're as frustrated about it as you are. We've been complaining about it for years and someone comes in and fiddles about with it - but nothing ever improves. It seemed to work fine for the Everton match but then, following some more fiddling, we're back to square one. In the Tannoy box itself, we can't hear anything at all! I have to stand outside to hear if there's any music coming through. I take headphones in so that I know when one track has finished so I can start the next. When you speak into the microphone, it feels like you're shouting into a cushion. It would be good if the person/s that knows how to fix it turned up on a matchday and worked with us to get it sorted.

The clubs inability to sort out little and less important things is probably a very good indication of how well more serious matters are dealt with .

They are f**cking useless to say the least .

1.30pm match day. 1 bod with mobile at all corners of BP, man on sound system/deck does sound check, sets levels and put a big sign saying do not fkn touch or the billionaire will get you. Sorted, basic school rock band stuff. FFS

This is more serious than just being inconvenient .............what if a safety message had to be given out!

You could go round the ground on a matchday, inside and out, and make a list as long as your arm of things that are wrong which could be easily fixed, however those in charge simply choose not to do so.

At one point we were hardly heard in the Main Stand & Paddock area (as now) but getting complaints from the East Stand for blasting them out. The sound levels are set elsewhere from the Tannoy Box - we only have a mixer for the CDs and mics - so we have little control over the levels during the match. Like I say, it's frustrating.

The sound was especially poor on Saturday.

In the 90s the supporters club bought some speakers that the club wanted to help this problem. They went on the track between the paddock and the pitch. They worked great but they stopped getting used/got lost etc . When we asked about them the answer we got was the groundsman (at the time) said he was too busy on match day to put them out etc. You couldn't make it up . So whatever happened to them I don't know.

Take it Dunno's playlist has disappeared. Always played some a wide variety of good tunes. Seemed to remember him giving the likes of Rush & Motorhead a blast.
Christ, its not hard to play some decent tunes to liven the place up. Or do they go through the three harbingers of doom censorship process.

My biggest gripe was buying Golden Gamble tickets and then not being able to hear the bloody numbers that were drawn.

When there are safety announcements you can hear them no bother. But the music and screaming god you should be in the warwick it makes me cringe the noise is terible why does that guy have to scream down the mic.Was there not at sometime speakers placed around the pitch what happened to them or were they washed away .On to it's these little things that joined together make us look more and more tin pot by the week having a season carpark ticket what a mess the track to the carpark is coming from St Aidans road i know you can come in from warwick road but leaving that way is a pain .There are massive potholes these can easily be filled ,and with all the gravel being dredged from the local rivers there must be some going spare to be used for the track i have mentioned this to the fans rep in a email .Theres a little story there for the press if it came off .( the floods paying back some of the damaged caused)

I don't care whether I can hear it or not in the paddock, unless something half decent is played, which these days it never is. What bothers me is when I gan out for a smoke at half time my ears are almost fucking destroyed by the noise. If you can get it that loud outside the ground why can't it be done inside (more to the point, if you can get it that quiet inside the ground why can't it be done outside).

Also stop playing music which was written for 13 year old girls, then more people might give a shit.

Ah, but what you've all got to remember is that it'll just be pissing money away. This time next year we'll be up in Kingstown.

This afternoon, a proper sound engineer, together with Phil King and I, had a good look at the system and made some adjustments. Whilst some tweaking of the system was necessary, it also appeared that I had set up the mixer desk incorrectly (as had others before me - so the mistakes were passed on). You should notice a vast improvement at the next home match. The system is getting on a bit but still works and, handled correctly, should last a while yet.

The music we play is not something I have much choice with. It's certainly not stuff I appreciate but I'm in my 60s and my choice of music is probably unique on this board (World - especially African). A wider mix of music would be better but that is something the Fan's Rep might have better luck with. I rarely go to away matches - what is played elsewhere? Do you get the same chart music from the past few years at other grounds?

Was working down the end of Greystone Road this afternoon and could hear the music blasting away. Sounded clear at that distance.

I like what Manchester United do - they prepare a setlist before hand and post it on Twitter. Sometimes they get players or a celeb fan to pick 3 or 4 tracks (example below has Peter Hook picking a few). Also try to fit at least one local band in (easier for a bigger place like Manc I guess. Something like this would be good. Is there still licensing issues scotty? Otherwise, surely having a laptop hooked up with a Spotify Premium account would make it easy to play a wide variety of stuff? Could even setup a playlist which people can listen to at a later date or suggest songs for?

Beat me to it cousinscotty - just back from meeting Phil and Suzanne, with a few others from CUOSC, and I raised the subject of the tannoy. Phil advised that this had been sorted today, and should be a huge improvement on the next game.

I mentioned about pitch side speakers too - these needed set up, and cables ran prior to every game, and then packed away afterwards; therefore they stopped using them.

Fingers crossed the tannoy system is much improved, next home game we will see.

I remember the last time we had players choosing songs someone chose Born Slippy by Underworld to blast out over the speakers.

No-one seemed to notice or realise that it has the word 'nigger' numerous times in the lyrics.
