TOPIC: Kyle Dempsey

Huddersfield Town fan here in peace.

Looking around the forum it's pretty clear that you all rate Dempsey very highly (which is reassuring!), but I'm just keen to know what sort of player he is, what strengths & weaknesses he has, whether you reckon he's good enough to step up to Championship level straight away or if he's likely to be "one for the future" as he's still very young.

No offence terrier but i can't bring myself to write about his potential and how we are going to miss him, all the best.

We would rather he was still here and that you had taken John Nixon instead.

In my opinion Terrier a player can have all the skill set's in the world but without the drive to use them what good are they to anyone. In Dempsey you have acquired someone I think your fans will grow to love and could very well make you a tidy profit going forward.

Dempsey isn't very good at all at the moment, he needs a 5 year loan to us if he's going to be anywhere near good enough for you. Tell your manager.

Single handedly kept us up last year. Has a footballing brain way beyond his years, and his touch and awareness are sublime. We will miss him terribly next season. Feel free to pop by on here any time and let us know how he's getting on. First day of pre season, the lads did the bleep test, to see where their fitness levels were at, we would do it again on the final day of pre season to see how much fitter everybody had got. Kyle completed it. On the first day of pre season.

Yeah when`s the loan window open ? Nah that`s just silly - we`ll wait till January when we`ve lost a few to injuries and we`re pushing top spot naturally

Good luck to the lad. Decent move to a decent club. I am sure he will be very successful.

On the other hand just look at Brad Potts to Blackpool. That move could easily be a career wrecker.

I think Huddersfield is a good move for him and at the reported 300k you've got yourselves an absolute steal. People were reporting him to be as good as Grimes who went from Exeter to Swansea for £1.75 million.

You have made a excellent signing, he will walk straight into your first team no problem at all , i hope we have a good sell on clause
because he will play premier league on day, you have got an absolute bargain

I think the reaction to recent sales says it all. Potts leaves and no one is particularly bothered. Dempsey leaves (apparently for not much more money) and this board has virtually gone into mourning.

He has the attributes and potential to be top class. Best prospect since Matt Jansen (although different type of player), Paul Murray and Paul Boertien who all obviously played at the top level.

Combative, confident, good on the ball. Hard to tell how good he can be because we had plenty of dross in the side last year. Surrounded by good players he will surely thrive and prosper.

Good luck to him. Was a pleasure to watch in his one season with us.

He's a class act marra gutted he has gone hoped he would stay for 1 more season.

Yes he was class , too good for us to keep though. Clubs in our position will , unfortunately , always be selling clubs. We just couldn't keep him here - he's a 19yr old who's obviously been offered a (substantial) pay rise . Who wouldn't go ? It is his "job" after all and if someone offered you a large pay rise with the prospect of even higher future earnings wouldn't you go ?

I wish Kyle all the best for the future. I'm glad he's gone to a decent club with a good manager and will look forward to hearing about how he progresses.

First noticed him at the Centre of Excellence and was pleased to see him progress to the youth team and beyond. He has a fair bit of talent but what makes him special is the dogged determination to progress, can't remember ever seeing a youngster so focused on getting to where he wants to be.

I don't blame the club in the least for selling him, it would have been wrong to try and hang on, it would have been good if he had stayed until January but I don't blame him at all for taking this chance when it came.

For me the club, (Curle and board), are not to blame for letting him go, I don't think they had any option and wouldn't have done the clubs reputation any good if they tried to stop him. What counts now is what happens next. If Curle gets/has got, the right players in to make our midfield competent at this level and the board allows the money to be spent on getting those players and their wages. If this happens then the move will be good for everyone concerned, including us fans.

Some interesting comments from a Huddersfield fan (possibly the OP?) on how they do their scouting on players like Dempsey:

"The way our scouting system works is our scouts calculate when the best time to sign players is before they become too alert to higher profile clubs than us and there value shoots up.

They may not be ready straight away, but buying them before they are and turning them into a player who is more than capable and selling for a profit is something we're good at - ala Rhodes, Pilkington, Novak etc"
