With no Emergency loan window next year most under 21s will be out on season/6 month loans anyway.

If they do this, all league clubs should show this competition the same level of disrespect that the FA/FL have shown it by doing this. Instead of taking it seriously, put our youth/u21s in it. F*** the fines, they can't have one rule saying you have to play your strongest team, and then allow premier league clubs to play their f***ing youth teams.

Also think the fans should boycott it as well. Show that we're not pushovers. They'll soon change it back if this happens.

Plus an all premier league under 21 JPT final isn't exactly going to have fans flocking down wembley way.

Well it just becomes a different thing if they do that, it can't be considered to be a serious competition more like an exhibition.
I couldn't bring myself to get excited in any way about playing against a youth team.
Might as well just scrap it all together, if they are going to do that and organise some friendlies instead.

When are the Premier League and FA gonna wake up and cotton on no one gives a [censored] about there u21s? That there problem not the football leagues. Id rather watch CUFC play any Div 1 Div 2 team in the JPT than Man Utd, Man City Liverpool u21 team, they play them teams in the league cup and Fa cup anyways.

One of the big drawing points about the JPT is that it gives fans of smaller clubs a shot at Wembley. This will be a disaster for the smaller clubs. Have the big boys not screwed us over enough?

Lets be honest the only thing the FA is interested in is pund notes, And as long as Sky and BT dish them out the little guys can eat grass

According to Curle's after match interview, they are making a Under 23 league now, so it could work out that lads will reach 23 and never have played any proper football.

He said it's been painful watching so many under 21 games necause they don't tackle, don't head the ball, don't out any challenges in. Not exactly useful to see how well a lad will do in League 2.

Utterly ridiculous to consider changing to U23 - U21 should be dropped to U20 these days. Any real prospects are already in a first team, any decent lads on the fringes. The rest are better going down a level to get games and kickstart careers.

Should be a limit on how many youngsters can go on loan from a PL team too, likes of Chelsea with 30 out around Europe is utterly wrong. The stockpiling by the bigger teams is a joke, they can see 10 leave each year without ever playing, and still recoup a few £m.

Squad numbers in the 60/70's! Barmy!

All that will happen then is they will sell them off with buy back clauses set at the same amount they sold them for just in case they end up being any good.

Would make league 1/2 youth teams pointless, because teams will know they can mop up all the players being released from prem clubs at the end of the season.

Not that I agree with the under 21 league. Young players need proper football to improve, not sterile exhibition games.

If this happens it's just the start of a road leading to B teams joining the Football League.

We simply cannot allow this to happen but if it does get the go ahead, us fans need to avoid these matches like the plague. Attending them would just be accepting it.

The premier league doesn't give a shit about us lower league clubs and fsns. It's all about them and all about money. The Premier league is a cancer on English football and it needs to be battled as hard as possible.

It's funny that schools always talk about class sizes being a factor in the quality of education but premier league clubs stockpile players for fear of one slipping through the net.

I'd limit the number of professional players a club can have signed on, regardless of age. The current system of 25 plus unlimited under 21s only encourages what you see now, player farms. If that squad size was increased to 35/40 clubs would be forced to nurture the talent they sign up, not say "he's never going to make it, bring in another from the 100s waiting for a chance".

The argument against that is that big clubs will just sign 35/40 experienced internationals and youth will never be given a chance. I'd counter that by saying at least the talented youngsters are playing and developing at a club that actually care about them.

This is a nonsense. They buy their way in by offering some compensation. Yet, if any of the clubs in Lge 1& 2 have a decent prospect in their own 'academies' the Prem Clubs can come and pick them off with a derisory pay-off or, if you are lucky, and auction type sale if more than one Prem (elite academy) want to compete for his signature. The FL is already being screwed over with the new TV payment with it's ludicrously small cascade of cash to clubs outside of the Prem Lge. Plus, the most recent news that away fans in, yet again, the Prem Lge having ticket prices locked at £30 - what about compensating away fans in the FL?? How can paying £20+ to watch Lge 2 football not be compensated if you can watch Prem Lge for just £10 more!! It beggars belief. Of course, all these issues are tied up to TV rights and the dominance and control of TV companies. They want U-21s (or U-23s) to play in the JPT to gain viewers. (Although, how many Liverpool fans will switch on to see their U-21s play Scunthorpe or Carlisle - clearly 10s of 1000s). Just like they want away fans at Prem Lge grounds - to create 'atmosphere'.

The way things are going and, with a European Super League again being muted, the FL will eventually invite 'B' teams into the Lge up to Lge 1 with Super Lge teams running two squads in the Prem Lge/Super Lge. It will further undermine the pyramid and the chances of another Leicester chasing the Prem title or clubs like Blackpool, Burnley and Bournemouth competing at the highest level. It's all about the top teams making the most money and grabbing all the TV time to promote themselves. Sadly, what all these TV/Football Execs forget (don't realise) is there are many footie fans like me that don't give a monkeys about Prem teams and would have very little interest in watching, let alone following, a Super Lge team. I care about MY team and how it can improve and move up the pyramid. Ultimately, these moneyed individuals, with little interest in football as a whole, will engineer the demise of football as we know it and there seems little that we can do about it.

its a no from me but sadly I think our custodians will go for it thinking that a visit from Man utd u21s will draw the crowds in when it wont. Who is going to pay 10-20 quid to watch an u21 side when at a guess it normally costs a fiver to watch them. Will the Prem sides play home games at their ground or somewhere local like some do.

How many fans are going to pay to watch us away at Stoke u21s on a Tuesday night

Edited to add the lack of support for this is something that the CUSG should be feeding back to the custodians

Trouble is some games are already being watched by crowds of about 1000 in this competition. To play devil's advocate for a second, maybe us lower league fans should have supported this competition better.

Cheadleblue you could be right. However, look at the Lge Cup crowds or FA Cup crowds at the early stages. Lge clubs don't get big crowds until later rounds unless there is something like a local derby in the mix or you are playing non-lge opposition away. The JPT in its various guises was all about creating a competition for lower league teams to get some silverware. If we add U-21s to the mix, this ambition becomes less likely.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea. But if I was trying to run a football club sustainably (like most of us want) and kept having to open the ground and put on a game that barely drew 1000 crowd, I'd be open to ideas to give it a shot in the arm.

Don't be so sure about there being no interest in seeing Man Utd under 21s at Brunton Park. It could attract some of the 1000s who come out when we draw a big team.

Agreed! The whole of 'Youth' football needs seriously looked at both here and in general. Stockpiling is ruining football here...

Let them in I say. I'm missing seeing Man Utd 12th teamers on the bench for us since Greg got sacked. It'll be just like the old days.
