Carlisle United are set to step up their flood recovery work having appointed two contractors to carry out the next stage of repairs to Brunton Park.

Phase two of the rebuilding at United's stadium will be done by Esh Border Construction and Story Contracting.

They have been appointed after a tendering process and the work - intended to be completed in time for next season - will be divided between the two firms.

While phase one concerned short-term work that enabled Carlisle to return to Brunton Park after the December 5 floods, phase two will focus on many other areas of the stadium and surroundings.

The Blues' finance director Suzanne Kidd said it was a key period in restoring the ground after the devastation of Storm Desmond.

"It's getting under way now," she said.

"We've appointed our contractors and we just need a timescale plan now.

"We are going to split the work. Esh are going to do the houses, study centre, Neil Centre and the Pioneer Foods [east] Stand, and Story will be doing the external areas and west stand, which incorporates the offices, up to the top of the Paddock terrace and down to the changing rooms.

"As for the public areas and concourses, we have to wait until after the two remaining important home games - and hopefully the play-offs.

"So we go with the calendar and hopefully everything will be back up and running for the start of next season."

Kidd said some of United's facilities would be "modernised" as a result of the work but some of the details were yet to be finalised.

She added: "We have had some different plans drawn up and we need to present them to the board and get approval for them, to see what direction we move in."

The club is working towards July 31 as a deadline for the work, with the 2016/17 season set to start on the weekend of August 6.

United, meanwhile, re-opened their family zone in the Pioneer Stand on Saturday after a £15,000 refurbishment paid for by the Football League's title sponsor SkyBet.

Lots of inconsistencies over this

Like will the insurance still pay out on the family zone now its public knowledge that Skybet have stumped up 15k and were they ever going to pay in the first place as there had actually been no financial loss to the club as the whole thing had been set up using donations of time goods and money.when it was created.

There are several other examples where businesses donated services eg Stobbarts with transporting the turf etc did the club benefit from their generosity or did it just create a 10k saving for the insurance company.

Surely the best way would of been if these companies had just written the club a cheque and then invoiced for their work which would then be passed to the insurance company for payment.

But in neither of these instances does it appear that this was done so is all thats happened is that were saved the insurance company a few thousand quid on the claim.

Maybe one for Claire to look into and ask the pertenant questions at the next meeting.

I think a new pie hut in the Paddock should be the priority surely.

Serving XL Crisps and Mars Bars out of what looks like a groundsman's shed is hardly cutting edge catering.

I think getting new pies made elsewhere should be priority ive heard

Er, the procurement rules will require expenditure over a certain level is approved by more than one person. Only Michael Knighton would allow one person to sign contracts with only one signature

So at least two approved signatures required.

I wonder who that could be?
