Looking at the News and Start website it looks more than your average smoke bomb more like a distress signal than a full blown flare tho!

Its just another over reaction from the nutcase of a Police Liason Officer building up his part to justify spending the season doing fu ck all and being a total waste of money space and air.

Claimed on Twitter to be an expert yet didnt even know what " The Wall " is and when faced with conclusive evidence opposite to his he runs off and loses the argument like a little kid.

Also claimed the police bill for the Everton game represented good value for the ratepayers of Cumbria not a single arrest btw [ till he started going after lads who did nothing more than call a spade a spade and a couple who let off a harmless smoke cannister which he totally confused with a high temperature flare btw ]

His serious answer when i proved him wrong was why dont you get in touch with the FA ? For Fu cks sake they know less about fan culture than he does.

I wouldnt let him look after the station cat never mind direct the fuc kin traffic

Well that's utter bollocks, there's hundreds of serious incidents involving flares each year in Germany. Which is why they're finally operating a zero tolerance policy in all stadiums and have been for several years (it's always been illegal). Fans are being jailed and banned regularly for setting them off.

The damn things are dangerous enough when used for their intended purpose, only a complete fecking moron would set one or more off in the crowded and confined space found in a stadium.

Flares are not safe anyperson who thinks something that burns at over 1000 degrees is safe needs their heads checked out , they are people with breathing coditions people who light flares are idiots who have a lack of respecet for other people, but the punishments these lads have been giving are absurb

Gonna have my 2p worth on this.....the lad in question is a very good mate of mine. Did he have any smoke bombs at Morecambes ground? No
He's been caught on cctv on the train down there with a smokebomb, he didn't let it off on the train nor the ground, it was somewhere inbetween. Is he stupid for this? Yes.

I've had a few conversations with people on here regarding the use of flares and/or smoke grenades at matches. Do I think they're fine? Yes, in the right areas. Of which the uk isn't a fine area. I go to Eastern Europe for the use of pyrotechnics and I love it, they do create a different kind of atmosphere, yet in this PC nanny country we live in now it's unacceptable.

The punishments are far far too harsh, banning orders should be for violence only not pyro use or pitch encroachment

Is like differentiating between somebody going in the wrong end and fighting inside the ground vs them fighting opposition fans outside of the ground? Either way they'd expect a ban for that, wouldn't they?

Take a look at the link below. There are two different offences "possession in a football ground" and "possession whilst attempting to enter", a court is likely to class you as attempting to enter if you are in the local area and in possession of a ticket. Seems reasonable enough to me.

How can the authorities know whether the intent of the pyro is to improve the atmosphere or to throw into the opposition fans or keeper?

Come up with any fact sheet you wish, but please read what I wrote. "He's been caught on cctv on the train down there with a smokebomb, he didn't let it off on the train nor the ground, it was somewhere inbetween"

Not trying to enter the ground, nor in the ground. Away from the ground. It was behind the battery pub it was let off (pretty pointless may I add)

What if the smoke bomb had accidentally gone off on the train. Not exactly the smartest thing to do .

The lucky [censored] will probably get a banning order

I also know the lad having taught him at school. Nice enough lad but not one of his finest moments,

The Battery Pub is about a mile and a half from the ground and has been closed for years so not sure what he was trying to achieve.

Well i was last at matches in Germany in February and i can assure you i saw dozens let off in Dortmund and Bremmen without any attempt by police to do anything about it so the clanpdown you mention doesnt seem to be going to well does it.

Typical British government propaganda sheet one death somewhere in the world in the last 10 years and they drag it up to try and prove a point like the temperature thing the figure quoted is for one type of flare that was never intended to be hand held and therefore never of a type taken to grounds ask yourself why would they allow smoke cannisters [which is what were talking about here] that are meant to be hand held to burn at a dangerous temperature surely they would just be banned from manufacture or sale full stop whatever their intended use.

So what will they be wanting to ban next because people find other uses for them lets start with bikes i bet thousands have be killed as a result of riding a bike in the same time period.

Yes it was part of yet another regeneration plan that didnt happen but its a strange one as i believe the upper floors are let out as offices abd are fully let bringing in a decent income to the owners {Thwaites i think } something it wouldnt do as a pub in its present state.

Chopper - I read what you wrote and tried to put the situation within context of the advice given regarding these things by the Football Supporters Federation. As you say he wasn't trying to enter the ground with it, as he let it off before hand... BUT he was seen on CCTV with it on the train, was within two miles of the ground with it and presumably had a ticket in his possession? Therefore, going by the information provided by the FSF it's not unlikely that he would get some form of punishment, and probably a banning order.

I'm not entirely certain that he has let it off in a public place before entering the ground is the strongest defence. As he was going to the match and let it off close to the ground it's reasonable that this is dealt with as a football incident, not just a general public disorder.

At no point have I given an opinion as to whether I think the likely banning order is fair or not. I'm just saying that going off the FSF information, which is based on the advice of a Barrister, it's likely to expect a ban.

I.d be very wary of going by what the Barrister the FSF use says as her opinions are very hit and miss and a lot seem be based on her own personal views and there are a lot of members who want her removed and replaced with someone whos advice is more based on finding people loopholes to get off rather than what the result is likely to be if you play fair and tell the truth because its patently obvious youre up against an organisation that certainly doesnt do that.as far as football fans are concerned.

For example she wouldnt go for a destruction order against a Police Dog which had been proven to be out of control when it attacked an innocent fan whereas dogs that have done a lot less damage than that did have been ordered to be put down.

27 years ago today 96 people went to a football match and didn't return home to their families, this was not their fault yet people still make comments about it just because they were scousers. Would accept digs at Bradford fans over the fire?

Is this a competition thread for the most crass posts of the week?

Hillsborough, Heysel, Bradford, Ibrox, where ever, I find the whole football family thing a bit over the top but surely as human beings we don't need to score points off the people who lost their lives at a football match.

Nope its more a competition about something that wasnt really there but triggers "phoney outrage" from time to time CVB is actively looking for posts that include the numbers nine and six so he can be even more offended than he is now .

Is this a competition thread for the most crass posts of the week?

Hillsborough, Heysel, Bradford, Ibrox, where ever, I find the whole football family thing a bit over the top but surely as human beings we don't need to score points off the people who lost their lives at a football match.

Agreed. But it is equally important we don't forget.

Agreed. But we can't ever forget, the amount it's spoken about

Nope its more a competition about something that wasnt really there but triggers "phoney outrage" from time to time CVB is actively looking for posts that include the numbers nine and six so he can be even more offended than he is now .

Ok, my last comment on the subject (scousers, that is). I find it strange that on this site the scouse stereotype of lazy benefit scrounging wasters/drug dealers/hooligans/blaming everyone else for everything seems to be applied to, and taints every single person/thing to do with the city. No other stereotype is so strongly adhered to.

Yes, there are a percentage of scumbags in Liverpool, as there are anywhere, I just find it strange that a select group of people on here seem to think in such a blinkered way as is portrayed on here.

Ps no real outrage phoney or other, just find it strange.

"Totally acceptable if it's Liverpool. Police probably to blame" That was the initial comment and it immediately provoked a flare up at the perception that it was a Hillsborough reference.

For crying out loud, presumably nobody has anything but deepest sympathy for the Hillsborough victims and their families. Those who knew the 96 have every right to still feel hurt and anger 27 years later. Where I get frustrated at times is this endless touchiness that makes everyone connected to the club - and I include people who I know who are Liverpool 'fans' who have never even been to the city itself, let alone a game - jump down your throat because they perceive you're not quite being respectful enough.

My brother in law is a prime example of this. Greatest Liverpool fan ever and he has the mug to prove it. All he needs to do now is actually go to his first game of football - after all he is only 38. Obsessed with Hillsborough. Took a day off work back in 09 to watch Liverpool TV's Hillsborough anniversary coverage. Wears a shirt with Justice 4 96 on the back. But can't hold a conversation about it with any 'outsiders' because they don't know what they are talking about.

I could be wrong but I don't think Bradford fans have the same attitude to the fire and this might be why the wider footballing community are becoming tired of Liverpool - nothing to do with a hatred of scousers or a lack of sympathy for the victims.
