Gillesphey&Comley; have been two of our better players of late so it stands to reason that they are dropped for an important game.

Can any stattos answer 2 questions? How many times has curle named an unchanged starting 11 from the previous game this season? And how many times have we lost 2 consecutive league games this season?

50:50 right in front of the away end. Won the ball. Never a red card. Never a foul.

Ref has ruined this for us.

Asamoah on for Raynes is a bold move considering we're down to 10.

Going for the win, but could leave us hopelessly exposed (see what I did there).

Agree with Crunch, never a red. Won the ball first, marginally- that is all that matters. The commentary box is at the far side and they would not have had as good a view and that would have been further impededed by their player.

Sendings off seem to of ruined the game. A point is great with 10 men then 9 men. Just gutting its this late in the season and a point isn't what we needed.

Better than getting beat though but we have plenty players to cover. Gillesphey in the middle will be a blessing in disguise and improve the passing from the back. Jabo needs to find his shooting boots quick smart.

Plenty twists and turns yet, strange results this time of the season. Just have to hope Wimbledon and others slip up somewhere but it's looking increasingly likely we're going to have to win every game we have left to get in. It's a big ask.

Didn't think hope's was a sending off. Really harsh and Farlong milked it to con the ref. He got up fine and dandy once the red was shown.

Ref completely spoiled the game. Linesman wasn't much use either. We could easily have had a pen but somehow both the Lino and ref missed arms round Wykes neck.

Second sending off was silly. He booted it a second after the whistle. But i reckon it looked more deliberate due to the distance it went out of the ground.

Good point in the end considering how many they missed. But Derek should have scored, and has been said, a point isn't quite enough.

Credit to the home MOM pickers for choosing Furlong tho. He didn't do much other than get Hope sent off and wind the crowd up. But them choosing him did give me a wry smile

Highlights up on Sky Sports website:

www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/foo...mbridge-0-0-carlisle?

First red card - ref's got it spot on for me. Reckless tackle, studs up.

Second one - Ellis didn't kick the ball "one second" after the whistle gone - there was a good 3-4 seconds! Idiotic when one experienced centre-back is already a doubt for Tues night.

Just seen the highlights after gobbing off online all evening defending us to Cambridge fans calling us a team of thugs. In hindsight both were nailed on reds and Miller could have walked as well. What was Ellis thinking when he was already booked. No discipline,

Hope's looked like a mis-timed tackle to me and didn't go into do him whatsoever. A foul and a yellow card at most as for Ellis, idiocy especially with a card happy ref who looks to use everything down to the letter of the law i.e. robot.

In defence of Ellis, the way I saw it at the time was this. It was stoppage time, we didn't want to concede late undoing a good performance defensively. They had a shot, Gillespie saved and parried, the offside flag went up, Ellis' natural instinct as a defender is to clear the ball away from danger. Perhaps he didn't see the flag?

I haven't had a chance to see the highlights yet, but that's how it looked to me at the time. Harsh.

Hope was a little late. Definitely a yellow, but not a red.

The fanny who rolled over twenty times should have been sent off mind. Inexcusable.

Asamoah's miss is a microcosm of our performance this calender year.

Looking at our squad for next year, taking our performances in 2016 and our disciplinary record into account, I'm not sure how optimistic we should feel.

Hope's tackle was never a straight red. A standard yellow card booking for me.

Ellis's first yellow card tackle looked very similar to Hope's tackle if not worse.

Then Ellis's second booking was extremely harsh. Yes the whistle had just gone but he was clearly entirely focused on clearing the ball/danger and hadn't realised until afterwards. An utterly ridiculous booking to send a team down to 9 men.

These kinds of bookings for kicking the ball away after the whistle are an absolute nonesense. It wasn't done in anger or disrespect or even time wasting, it was done because a defender was in the moment and focuses on doing his job. As a former defender I've done it myself more than once when my brain hasn't registered the whistle until afterwards. Just like strikers sometimes tend to bang the ball into the net after the whistle has gone, or a goalkeep still makes the save after the whistle has gone.

Cambridge feller has conned the ref, nothing new in that, but for the good of the game it needs stamped out.

IF he had acted like a man then Hope wouldn't have got a red, simple.

Ellis was very unlucky to get that second yellow, in the circumstances, and the way our boys were focussed on getting the draw, ref was a prat.

How did Asamoah miss? He really doesn't take his chances, fast tricky yes, striker you're having a laugh.

We would have benefitted far more since Xmas playing both Kennedy and Sweeney, both have plenty of experience and know-how at this level, AND the proven ability to chip-in with important goals.

Really can't see how anyone can say Ellis was unlucky - the whistle had long gone when he kicked it.

As for the Hope one, I think people are looking at it with blue-tinted glasses. Watching the official YouTube highlights he does actually get to the ball first, but his follow through is high and dangerous - screengrab below shows he catches the lad at knee height. Can't have many complaints, I'd be wanting their lad sent off if he did the same on Hope.

this squad of players has its faults I acknowledge that but what it does have is a bit of fighting spirit and it has had to fight and scrape for almost every point just look at how many games have been won or lost by more than one goal...not many

If that fighting spirit comes at a cost of a few sendings off then so be it much rather that than some of the quite frankly disgracefully inept performances of previous seasons

Yes, it was a particular low point for me, 3 or 4 years ago, where we would concede 4 or 5 at home and just completely give up in games. The shitness up front has been disappointing.
If Derek had put that one away, it would have gone down as a great team effort yesterday.

Hope red card a bit of a marginal one, poor tackle, caught him late, you wonder whether the ref could be a bit lenient when it's more a case of poor technique, rather than malicious.
Just frustrating when you know it's just one of those midfield 50/50 challenges where there was little to be gained by fouling your opponent, both players just trying to win the ball.

To be fair, I don't mind Hope going in for the challenge and yes, it's more clumsy and poorly timed than malicious. Ref only has a second to decide though and had a pretty good view of it.

going by the highlights 2 reds 2 Carlisle chances and nothing of note from Cambridge.

I thought the second yellow for Ellis was harsh. I was sat in front of the stand where it happened in the first half and remember thinking that their fans made as much noise as any. You couldn't hear our fans from there which is unusual at an away match. Yes' of course he would be able to hear the whistle but hear it along with a lot of other noise, when he's concentrating on doing his job. I really don't see how that merited a yellow card when some fouls that happened right in front of him went unpunished.

Hope's sending off was one of those midway between a yellow and a red I'd say, could've gone either way really. A few remarks are pretty irrelevant like "he won the ball first" and "it wasn't malicious". These things don't matter I'm afraid, you can win the ball and not act maliciously and it still be a red card. For someone to say it wasn't even a foul is ridiculous!

Ellis definitely knew what he was doing, his body language and the fact the Cambridge player next to him has stopped playing and was walking back with his hands on his head was a dead giveaway! Play had obviously stopped and he booted the ball away, blatant booking I'm afraid. At least his suspension will force Curle into the change many have been asking for.

I'm sorry for my ridiculous post Frank, at the time of seeing it live from the away end, I genuinely thought he'd latched onto the loose pass quicker and won the ball cleanly and that it was infact their player that was late on Hope.

I still kind of think their player was late into the challenge but having seen it back it was the aggressive nature of Hope's lunge that made it a definite foul.

I'm still not sure on it being a straight red though.

I agree, not totally sure it was a straight red, it could have gone either way with regards colour of card, not much complaint either way to be honest. It was a foul all day long though.

You couldn't hear our fans from there which is unusual at an away match.

You would have done well to hear the away end from more than 30 feet away Bumble. It's clearly noticeable that the away end noise and atmosphere seems to be getting poorer with each season, particularly in the southern half of the country. There were over 400 Carlisle fans at the Abbey yesterday and I reckon there wasn't more than a dozen vocally trying to get behind the team. Some of us tried to give it a real go but it was like being with a smattering of fans accompanied by 390 neutrals.

Couldn't see any ratings posted anywhere so here goes:

Gillespie 7
Miller 6
Raynes 6
Ellis 7
Grainger 6
Stacey 6
Joyce 8
Kennedy 7
Hope 5
Gilliead 7
Wyke 6

Subs: Asamoah 6, Sweeney (not on long enough), Gillesphey 6

Hope's sending off was a crowd red if ever there was one. He got to the ball first and made clear contact, it's the going to ground part that made it look clumsy. If you look at Furlong and his Oscar-winning performance in slow motion, he first makes a grab for his knee before deciding on his ankle in order to turn the drama right up to '11'.
If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off
