Lee Dykes and his team have a really good reputation of recruiting players but is this actually the case? In January Balanta and Thompson signed new deals and I don't recall them making an appearance since. Throw in Pedro's comedy 15 minutes alongside Smith (remember him?) and all of a sudden we've got 4 contracts that we didn't need to dish out. Surely these could've been put towards a half decent striker instead?

I suppose in January a striker wasnt top priority but we certainly should have strengthened other areas. Maybe Dykes did his job in finding potential targets but for whatever reason Curle/the board or whoever didnt deliver on them.

Well start of the season it was all looking promising, some shrewd signings, a couple of duff ones but suppose that's always going to happen.
It's very strange about Balanta and Thompson, don't get that at all.
As has been said, they've done a reasonable job of improving the squad, but we could do with some serious investment in proven quality players, as well as picking up players with less obvious credentials.
Not entirely sure what went wrong, but it would seem that had particular players lined up, probably did quite a bit of fruitless work in trying to get them in. It's been a disappointing decline.

much harder to find players mid season I would have thought

Pedro I don't mind he only got a couple month contract gives a chance for proper look a couple on here would have given him a full contract based on his two goals against Barrow !!!

Like most managers we have signed good players and bad players.

I don't think Curle and Dykes have helped themselves by blowing smoke up each other's arses a lot of the time about how wonderful they both are at recruiting players and how brilliant the scouting system is.

They caused their own over-expectation from the supporters.

This summer should be interesting. I'm sure they have already been planning recruitment and we should all be expecting promotion. We are making strides forward but next season we need to get up. No excuses now.

Can only really assume Balanta and Thompson got contracts until the end of the season as a pre caution against injuries/suspensions, as stated earlier they have not appeared since then.

Agree fully with Pete, summer will be the time to kick on and make permanent signings that will make a difference, time to get rid of the dead wood clogging up the squad, if we have any ambitions or pretentions of being a title/promotion winning side.

I know we sayon here we need to go up but it isnt as easy as that. Sheff Utd and Portsmouth both probably need to go up more than we do but they havent done so far.
