I see Carlisle City have applied for the nw counties league, does anyone know if they are going to be one of the teams that are going to be accepted. Be good to see them in the FA cup and vase.

God knows why they're wanting to join that league with the travelling involved. Mostly Lancashire and Cheshire but the odd trip to Stoke thrown in which would involve a 300 mile round trip. The natural progression from the Alliance is into the Northern League, a far better league with much less travelling.

There's a fair bit of restructuring going on in Non-League this Summer, especially regarding locations. West/East being the possible divide in some levels. Carlisle City may actually be getting ahead of the game by making this move.

Now they're in at Gillford Park, they've facilities that are good enough for a couple of levels higher.

They've applied for both the Northern League and the North West Counties, just covering all bases. Blyth who are top have applied for the Northern league, and have recently done their ground up, and are expected to make the step up.

Also, on the travelling side, it would involve more motorway travelling.

The second division of the Northern League looks a hell of a lot stronger than the Second Division of the NWCL so maybe thats why theyd prefer that option.

But i.d say the reason is that the NWCL have advertised the fact they actually have 4 actual vacancies whereas it looks as if the NL are only looking to replace any clubs that leave.

Carlisle City are currently a member of a step 7 league
They have actually applied to join a step 6 league.
The FA decides which, if any, league they join, usually based on location and how high they finish In their particular league. .
If the club do not agree with the FA's decision on which league they are placed in they can always refuse promotion
The North West Counties League is currently running four places short of its normal full quota of 22 teams in its lower division, so four places are potentially available there.
The Northern League has a full quota of 22 teams.

There are potentially two relegation places at the bottom of the Northern League, depending on whether other clubs decide to resign or are thrown out for breach of league rules.

It was a merger of Oswestry Town & Llansantffraid (they changed their name to Total Network Solutions in 97/98, TNS was sold to BT so name change was required). Presumably the acronym of TNS played some part in the new name of The New Saints after the merger.
