TOPIC: Are they really worse than Knighton though?

Of course they f*cking are.

Knighton wasn't from the area so he had no real reason to stick around once the Knighton Out campaign really got going. These f*cking disgusting parasites live in the area so probably feel that they'd ruin their pride too much if they let themselves be hounded out of the club. They'd feel constant shame walking around knowing that they'd lost. As it is they can wander the city, looking down on us plebs thinking that they have one up on everyone. Probably the only slight chance that they could be hounded out is via well-organised mass demonstrations. Unfortunately the people best placed to organise this, CUOSC, have no f*cking balls (sorry Deano no offence to you personally). They have the addresses of thousands of season ticket holders, get a mailshot out to all members declaring a mass protest, contact the News and Star to do a full page spread rallying other supporters to join the protest. Today's news has made it 100% clear that CUOSC can not work with these odious cretins. Not going to happen though is it.

That leaves only one way out. Administration. I never got to the point where I thought that administration would be good for the club, shows just how bad it is. Problem is Jenkins will never allow administration as long as he can afford to subsidise the club. All we can hope for is that we do so badly on the pitch and crowds drop so low that even Jenkins can no longer afford to prop us up. Never thought I'd find myself in this position but if someone said to me "The only way you can be rid of these c*nts is if the club does a Darlington" I'd bite their f*cking hand off.

This under-handed share b*llocks has done it for me. The odd away game only from now on.

If I'm being truthful...no, at least not yet. There will be some fans who are too young to remember Knighton and what he did, but at its worst it was probably the darkest period in Carlisle's history.

The day he threatened to close down the club and board up the ground will live with me forever. People just reacted with blind fury and rage that day, and if he'd walked down the street I honestly reckon someone would have dispatched him.

I remember the same. It was the worst time ever at the end. Much much worse than it is now.
The worst thing about this lot is they have sucked the life out of the fans and the club. It is like they are managing a bowling club or bridge club. We are miles behind the likes of Rochdale or bury and that is a massive barometer to their ambitions or drive.
I don't know their motives but they are simply not up to the job of managing a forward thinking football club. They have failed and let us down.

Nail on the head, bruntonpete. Not in any way trying to downplay what this lot are getting away with...but they are two different scenarios.

With Nixon & co, it's a slow decline brought about by severe mismanagement, self-serving attitudes, chronic lack of vision and stubborn egos. We're sleepwalking towards the abyss under them, very slowly but very certainly.

Knighton however was just sheer vindictiveness, a really nasty and determined threat to destroy the club outright. I doubt this lot could do that as they don't have the passion or the energy.

The darkest moment of that time under Knighton for me was when they attempted to sack five players who were under contract for no reason at all. Was a total shambles.

Its already worse..The writing was on the wall when David Allen left as he had some vision and realised these lot didnt ...Seems his business stuff has flourished since branching out with IT stuff helping other companies.Bet he is glad he got out...

I can't remember everything that Knighton did and claim to understand it like the elders of this forum can, I'm a bit too young for that. But, before the darkest days under Knighton when you could tell it was gonna go tits up, at least I woke up not having a clue what Knighton would do to the club that day. With these 3 we have now, it's just the same old mundane shite

Knighton was a showman. The fans and press loved him at first, exciting times, you wanted to be there and be a part of it. Knighton was flamboyant, he knew it was the entertainment industry. Then it went tits up once he started having stupid ideas (a butterfly farm? Etc).
The key word is entertainment. What we have today is a dull slow death, painful to witness, which a lot of people don't want to be part of.
The bod are responsible for where we are today and there are to many happy clappers out there for things to change anytime soon.
Is there still a billionaire interested Mr Jenkins and Mr Nixon???????????

Fair play I can see why some would disagree.

Look at it this way though. The way Knighton acted really stirred up hatred and poked the hornet's nest. The action that followed left him no choice. This mob are much more underhanded. They are gradually sucking the life out of the club and installing apathy to the point that people just quietly walk away and no one feels passionate enough to take serious action. That'll be the death of the club.

Worse than Knighton? Definitely.

It is pretty much like the few years before Knighton, at the moment, we seem to be in a slow, miserable decline as a club, with no real hope of things improving off the pitch.
Knighton took over and it was good at first, then obviously not, latterly.

Yes, I was there pre-Knighton days and it was pretty lowly stuff at times. Crowds of 1500-2000.
A lot of my generation only got into it around 93-95, the crowds vastly increased during this time, from the previous years.
Not sure what would have happened if Knighton didn't come here.

So what is the expectation? Courtney never got this level of vitriol and he took us out the league, God remember some of those players. If Jenkins goes what is the variant? Bury FC who are being held up here as a way forward pay 138% interest on their loans, that is good management!?

My fear with the current situation is that we'll get another Knighton, another we'll be in the Championship in 5 years and the whole thing will be funded by borrowings which collapse around our knees. I'm sure Laffy is a great guy with some good ideas but ultimately all this millions of profits Griff keeps posting isn't his money, he is an employee of John Boyle and the money comes from Boyle. At least with Jenkins if we are in the financial crap he has the ability and willingness to get out his cheque book.

Jenkin's performance as Chairman is no worse than others, 87 of the 92 Premier and League clubs run at a loss, that should be borne in mind when we are being promised financial utopia. Before we drive a man who has effectively gifted us £2m out of our club just think what the alternatives are. In the final analysis why not take our time and see if we can get someone who has both the business ability and the financial clout to take the club forward?

I've said it a hundred times on here before, Football Clubs are unlike normal businesses and require benefactors to put coin in. Our difference is the main benefactor expects this coin back...

At least with Knighton we had some highs

Financially, unchecked, it will inevitably result in a Knighton-esque situation.

Businesses, and Carlisle United is essentially a business in operating terms, never remain at the same level - they will always be improving or worsening.

So, when Big Fred gifted the Club to the then 4 amigos, that was the time to make plans to ensure the future success of our Club.

They either had the guile and financial clout to do this, or they didn't. These were happy times for the Club and if they (honestly) felt that they were not competent or able to take the Club forward, then from a position of strength, they could actively find new owners.

The rest is a matter of record. David Allen jumped ship saying the the Club was being run as "an old boys club".

No significant investment has been injected into the Club. The 3 clowns have no dialogue with the fans, gates are falling and the whole ethos from the boardroom is us-and-them.

We are supposed to be grateful that these boys make loans (not injections of significant capital) now and then to keep us afloat and no mention made that the lack of investment, ideas and openess caused the situation in the first place.

There will be no progress and no unity down at Brunton Park until we have change at the top - as we all know.

Ask yourself why did he go thru the whole Trust court case knowing he couldnt possibly win ? Because he knew he could charge the cost to the club. Wouldnt it of been much easier just to buy the land off the club and give it to JC as agreed ?

And thats before we start on the things that he did to JC to make him look like a tw at starting with leaving him sat in a cell for 3 days over a Bank Holiday despite his dont worry my briefs on his way messages. Then theres all the "dont worry about that John i.ll sort its " which he never did of course.

Then the final act was of course to give the club away rather than sell it back to JC which was the start of where we find ourselves today so in my opinion the lanky shit is as much to blame for the current mess as Jenkins is.

And if youre really sat waiting for him to come riding over the hill to the rescue with bags of cash i.m afraid youre in for a very long wait

Knighton would basically have just cut the clubs throat and let it bleed to death, with what we have now, well tey are more like a creeping cancer that will just slowly squeeze the life out of the club. They're different but both have the same result, death!

I certainly feel the same as I did at the end of the Knighton era.
