I don't really give a shit who we play at home in pre season. As long as it's beneficial to our preparations that's the main thing.

The away friendlies I'm more interested in. Bradford last summer was a decent one and obviously the local ones (Penrith etc) are nice and handy.

Agree it's same old, but we take players from these teams, and keeps us a destination for Loanees...

Not keen on having home friendlies this season, I'd much rather give the pitch an extra week to grow before the start of the season. I know a home friendly is like a dry run before the first match of the season but I don't think we are making major changes re ticketing systems or stands, so would be happy not to play at home until the season starts.

Middlesboro Reserves friendly will be a classic. Be about 900 home fans and they are usually good for 300.

Be well worth it.

Played Gateshead sporadically, last time I went there it was abandoned after about 50mins due to a torrential downpour!

Can't remember us playing Lancaster, though they get likes of PNE, Blackpool and Fleetwood probably...

I think the last time we played Lancaster was the first Carlisle game for a certain midfielder who went on to play in the Conference, League 2 and League 1 for us. Lummy can probes confirm that.

But before confirming any home friendlies this summer, Curle said the Blues first need to establish exactly when Brunton Park will be ready for action.

He said the impact of next month's Rod Stewart concert on the surface will play a part in United's schedule.

The legendary rocker is set to play at United's ground on Tuesday, June 21, shortly before the players return for pre-season training.

Curle added: "Things are not set in stone as yet and we are still finalising things with [groundsman] David Mitchell.

"As good as Dave is at his job he cant tell me exactly when that grass is going to be ready to be played on, and we don't know the aftermath of what's going to happen with the Rod Stewart concert.

"It will be down to the weather at that time, how quickly they are able to pack up afterwards, and how quickly we need to set up the pitch after that."

The problem at the minute is that they cant arrange anything at home that cant be cancelled or moved if the worse comes to the worst and the Rod Stewart concert does damage to the pitch and dont want to arrange anything against premier league clubs that they might fall out with if they have to cancel them.

I remember there seemed to be a fair bit of worry when the Elton John concert happened, as to whether the pitch would be ready for the season. That concert was on 3 June, so nearly three weeks earlier than the Rod Stewart one. I suppose it will all depend on the weather as to how fast and strong the grass grows. It will be quite interesting to see how things work out. Cufc will get a percentage of the ticket money. How much I haven't a clue, but I know it wasn't a great deal from the Elton John concert. All the costs have to be paid out before any profit is made.

So really is getting a music concert any different to getting a top English or a big European team for a friendly. Say you had to pay 50k to get a friendly where the team agrees to play at least half the side as first teamers. Would that be anymore than the costs involved in putting on the Rod Stewart concert? Would Brunton Park be any fuller with Rod Stewart or with a top friendly. I haven't a clue. It just seems a lot of work and worry to put on these large concerts so was trying to think of alternatives.

Man United - I've been to old Trafford, I covered the Stevenage v Torquay Conference final, that was played there the year that the play offs were in Manchester but never seen the Man U team play anywhere. When I took photos for an agency they had a mad keen Man U fan who would travel anywhere to snap them and asked if he could cover all their games, which suited me, although it might have been worth seeing them just the once. . . maybe next season in the cup with Carlisle.

Well last year Blackpool made very little from their exploits at hosting concerts that when they were offered a star of similar standard this year by the same promoters Cuffe and Taylor they turned it down flat.

But if theyve taken the concert on that basis then they really do want their bumps feelimg . Usual set up would be a straight hire fee 50% on signing the contract and 50% a month before the date then a %age of the catering hospitality as well as selling an agreed number of your own packages and then a profit related bonus after the event.

And i understand that apparently the decision has already been taken to rip the pitch up and replace it wether there is any damage to it or not.

Been to Old Trafford quite a few time to watch rugby league and even sneaked in team gb in the Olympic football but only time I've seen Man U play was away v Rangers in a pre season tournament. Just had a look through and I don't think I've seen Man City West Brom Reading Barnsley Fleetwood Burton and honestly can't remember if I saw us play Wolves or not!!! In fact have we played Reading in the league cup recently? Must be old age setting in.

Seen every team [FL and PREM inc those that have joined and those that have left ] at the ground they were playing in at the time over 93% of them v CUFC so just got a few of the newer grounds like Burton to do and if we ever get new owners might have a go at the 100% watching CUFC.

I think I've got 12 grounds to go, although there are a few, like Brighton, where I haven't seen them at their current homes. Will have to rely on cup runs next season as I won't have any new grounds to see in League 2.

See they're having a pop concert before the Champions League final, will the pitch recover in time for kick off?
