Accrington have supposedly identified 4 keepers that have been released by Premier League clubs if we.re looking for an understoody who can genuinely challenge Gillespie i would imagine thats where we.ll be looking or we could if budget allows get someone in of a similar quality to and let them fight it out for the shirt what we shouldnt do is just sign another journeyman or has been just because he.d be the cheapest option.

Tell him he's number 1 whatever? Not for me. That can lead to complacency which is why I believe his form last season was patchy compared to previous years. He got into too much of a comfort zone being guaranteed number 1 all season. There's nothing wrong with a good bit of healthy competition for places, if he's as good as we all think he is then he'll prove it and keep the shirt from the new GK. But if he doesn't then hopefully we'll have someone good enough to come in and take the shirt until Gillespie wins it back. The basic mistakes he made last season were f all to do with the "cloggers" in front of him.

In any case I think a relatively big financial offer for Devitt isn't too unreasonable given how good he's been for Morecambe, and I'm surprised we got him without more of a tussle. KC getting two of his main targets (Adams + Devitt) this early bodes very well for the rest of our summer; some of our promotion competitors haven't made anywhere near as much progress as we have.

Am I in a minority of one that thinks our first choice keeper should be able to play as well as he can regardless of who's sitting on the bench? I doubt last season he was thinking I may as well not bother too hard saving this coz Hanfords shit and I won't get dropped anyway. We should still sign the best value goalie we can and if he's better than Gillespie then so be it.

Btw. How good was Westwoods deputy when we almost got promoted to the championship?
