Usually it is the day before the League fixtures are released, The first round games are in the week commencing the 8th August. The EFL Trophy fixtures start in the week commencing the 29th August with the draw usually around the beginning of the season.

The Football League and credit card company Capital One have agreed that the 2015/16 season will be the fourth and final year of Capital One’s title sponsorship of the League Cup – The Football League’s showpiece cup competition for all 92 clubs from The Football League and Premier League. The Football League will be seeking a new title sponsor for the 2016/17 season onwards.

From a year ago that like, must be a bit of a struggle. Sports Direct wouldn't surprise me in all honesty, unless there is a rule preventing it or something.

I.ve asked the question of someone who was at the meeting at the weekend

The answer thats come back is that as of today neither the League Cup or the Trophy have a sponsor.

Apparently they were 80% of the way there with a high profile financial company [ i.m guessing they tried to negotiate an extension with Capital One ] when they pulled out but the word is that they are now negotiating with 3 other companies and an announcement will be made very soon.

And to confirm there is also as of today No Sponsor for the FL Trophy either.

They are blaming moving offices for putting them a couple of weeks behind where theyd like to be

Maybe the penny would drop that you can't run a football club anymore on cup successes and selling the odd decent player.

As regards having their conference in Portugal.- Ludicrous, just an excuse to have a jplly.

You'd think they would consider having it at a League club, many of which have conference facilities.
This would at least put some cash into the pockets of some of their members rather than it being frittered away abroad
It also sends out a message that the Football League hierarchy consider none of their member clubs have conference facilities which are any good or indeed anywhere in this country. Unless of course it really is a jolly.

The lack of sponsors for the EFL Cup and Trophy is a problem related to the death of corporate hospitality in the UK. I've mentioned before how I expect the tough anti-bribery rules are going to cause Wembley Stadium a massive problem when the 10-year seat licences run out in a couple of years' time. There is no point in spending money and getting a load of sponsors' tickets if you can't give them to anyone worth giving them to.

We've seen it again at the Euros where the big sponsors seem to be companies who just want to promote their name and don't care about the corporate entertaining such as Azerbaijani gas companies.

I don't think there was any chance of Capital One extending its sponsorship even at half what it was paying.

Surely having it at a league cup would he showing favourism to 1 specific club, as the league would he paying to use the facilities it would also be a financial benefit to the club.

Simple answer then is to use Wembley the FA give the FSF/Direct a good deal for their AGM and the opportunity to take up the preferential rates they have with the hotels there.

The league meeting isnt actually that big an event in the scale of things no more than 200 people i actually would have no issue with it being abroad if they came clean and made it clear who pays for what.
