...who either play or have played for Carlisle.

Out of the current crop, I always think that Jabo and Luke Joyce come across as being reasonably bright. Michael Raynes has just got a degree (not hard these days, admittedly) so he must have something about him too even though he sounds like an overexcited kid in interviews.

On the flip side, I can't listen to any of Kennedy's interviews as they drive me up the wall. Wyke sounds like he's a sandwich short of a picnic as well. Not that footballers are renowned for their intellect or are there to be intellectual, of course

Funnily enough I was going to mention Matty Robson who also didn't come across very well in interviews. I just wonder if it is a geography thing where footballers brought up in County Durham/Teesside are at a disadvantage because of their accent. I've never heard Mark Clattenburg speak but I would imagine he doesn't sound like a world-class referee with a chance of reffing at least a Euros semi-final.

You'd struggle to beat Tony Gallimore on that front though. Not many contenders for most intelligent being put forward. How about Paul Haigh? I think scouse players suffer from the same problem. Steve McManaman was supposed to be a intelligent bloke, once you got past the accent.

Bridges always came across very well in interviews and I got the impression Simon Hackney was quite intelligent as well. Lummy clearly has a lot about him and I want to say James Berrett (although that may just be in comparison with Noble). Did Paul Conway have a degree or have I just imagined that?

Conway qualified as a lawyer in America I think, while playing for Charleston Battery.
