Workington just tweeted the team sheet. Trialist striker is Junior Joachim - got worried that it was that ancient forward at first.

Wes Fletcher and goalkeeper Ian McCloughlin on the bench.

Currently 3-1 up 8 minutes into the second half. Shaun Miller penalty gave us a 1-0 HT lead; Tinnion equalised straight after the break. Penn then scored from 30 yards and McKee has just volleyed in our 3rd.

Decent run out, new players look fine, Lambe especially seems a good find. Joachim should have scored a couple first half, but the Reds keeper was excellent. Penn's strike was a cracker after Tinnion was allowed too much space. Played 3 at the back second half with Kennedy as right wing back. Bisley looks calm and impressive, Raynes looked very fit, and Grainger looks as if he's been working really hard over the break.

First half was an absolute stroll in the park. Workington barely got into our penalty area. Jones and McKee were running the game in the middle while Lambe and Adams looked threats roaming from the flanks.
Probably should have gone in 3 or 4 up, the trialist should have had a hattrick, hit them all straight at the Workington keeper.

Second half was more even, they got more joy against us due to our change to the back 3. Penn and McKee scored good goals.

Thought the trialist keeper looked alright, made two very good stops, claimed a few crosses and kicking seemed alright in tricky weather conditions.

Joachim could have had a hattrick. Poor finishing rather than great goalkeeping.

But maybe there's something there if he can brush off the rusty finishing, out of all the strikers he got into the best goal scoring positions. Maybe worth one more look?

He tried to spin into the channel at every opportunity but our style or the weather suited just lumping in to that area, I'd give him another look, Think fletcher will be away.

Hard to give a opinion against a team that was missing their full regular midfield and played a load of youth players and an ex Carlisle youth player at fullback on trial
We out played them for most of the game which is what i would have expected and we should have scored more
Trialist winger looked promising and should have had a hatfull of goals
Early days and we need stronger oposition before giving a true assessment

I'd like to know what they have been smoking in Workington. This poster on their forum thinks we were lucky not to lose and have our goalkeeper to thank for saving us. Miller was also going no where when he was fouled for the penalty. We're also apparently going to be having a season of looking over our shoulders.

What I saw of Joachim at Kendal he seemed to have a bit of skill and was always looking to get into scoring positions, worth a short term contract to give him time to sharpen up in front of goal, to see whether he can be a useful addition to the squad.

I doubt Curle is going to just hand out contracts on the off chance somebody comes good. He did that to an extent with Osei and Pedro last season, who both looked good in friendlies. We're not in a position where we really need to be gambling on players so if Joachim were to earn a contract, it would really have to be with a view to being ready for the first team. These games "give him time to sharpen up in front of goal, to see whether he can be a useful addition to the squad" so there's really no need to be committing to 'projects' at this stage. We're not even halfway through July and the season is still a fair way off.

But post the loan system this is what switched on clubs should be doing instead of using the money to loan players which is in effect dead money [ and dont forget when you take expenses. fees etc etc into account a grand paid to a loan player actually costs the loaning club twice that ] better to have say 3 or 4 "projects" like this guy on the books at any one time assessing them to see if they are what your looking for and whether they would be worth a longer contract while at the same time having the ability to play them if you needed to and thought that they were ready. A sort of development squad lite if you like.

Pedals we found Zoko by taking a chance on him. I think it's worth the gamble if you can turn up another player like Zoko. Also as said loan players especially at our level are dead money unless there is a chance of making it permanent, we need to find players with the potential to improve and become saleable assets.

All these comments are well and good, and I agree with most of them. But surely we're all failing to confront, head on, the main issue from yesterday. There was one glaring weakness that was staring us all in the face and I've seen no criticism of it.

It was wonderful :) Please more players with longer hair!

Nothing creates more movement in a photo than a dreadlock whipping across the face causing motion blur or an athlete speeding down the wing with hair streamiing behind. The excitement on a boring afternoon wondering whether Baille's topknot will unwind or whether the hairspray will hold because he's worth it! Is Zlatans pony tail at the back longer than his nose at the front and is the whole cantalever approach an aid to balance.

Oh and the joys of an errant combover pic. Ban short hair I say :)

A professional footballer isn't like every job. You can't just have a couple of weeks leave during preseason/season. He played at Kendal the other night anyway.

And even so, why the f*** would you want a couple of weeks wiping shitty arses instead of playing football?
