The latest twitter rumour going round is Orient are after Troy. Might be nothing in it mind, but can't help thinking that this would be a bad move by Curle if it happens.

I'd go as far as to say Troy could be the difference between another mediocre season and a good one if he can stay reasonably fit.

He played 24 games last season and nearly half of those he missed was probably due to suspension rather than injury.

ccu your putting 2+2 together and getting 'unwanted' if he's a London boy I'm sure he would want to move back there (if he has moved away). Or his family want back etc

Curle might be desperate for him to stay but if a player wants to go and is unhappy then there isn't much he can do.

Isn't this the crux of the problem.....most of us would have Troy in the team every week if he could stay fit....the problem is trying to get a consistent pairing at centre back when 1 player is in/out...

Curle stated at the end of last season that Troy was to be made available for transfer. That's the unwanted bit. 2+2=4 with this one!!!

Made available for transfer because Troys unhappy or because he's unwanted?

Still thinking your putting 2+2 together to fit your Curle bashing agenda

Curle places a very high priority on consistency so players who deliver a predictable performance match after match become his 'favourites' e.g. Kennedy, Grainger, Atkinson, Dempsey among others. What he doesn't seem to like are occasional flashes of brilliance like Amoo, poor first touches from the likes of Beck or disciplinary problems like Troy.

If Troy could play every match injury free then I am sure his disciplinary record would improve and he could be the consistent performer Curle is looking for. He has the footballing ability he just needs to be able to deliver it match after match.

He is consistently in/out of the team because of fitness which as someone else said is disruptive to the team. I bet he earns a decent wage too so would be good to offload him. shame though because he is quality when fit but if he was fit all the time he'd be at a higher level.

He got a lot fitter as the season went on so I'm not sure that's behind Curle making him available. He was a decent centre half himself so I'd find it strange he'd want to let Troy go at all if he could avoid it.

So long as we brought in a replacement with a similar level of ability who would be more likely to play every game I'd not have a problem at all with Troy leaving.

Maybe Curle wants rid because he feels he can't trust him since that ridiculous sending off at the end of the season when we needed him most.

Played 26/46 last season. Missed 8 through suspension (3 at start carried over and 2 unlucky reds late in season) and 6 through unrelated injury. Only actually missed a few midweek games because of his knee!

I like Troy, but the problem is if he plays 90 minutes on the Saturday at Mansfield, chances are we'll have to change the back 4/5 on the Tuesday night against Chesterfield.

Then if he plays against Cambridge we'll have to change again for the trip to Plymouth.

I think good teams are built on a settled back line. With Troy we'll never have that as long as we have midweek games. That said I'd still prefer he stayed even if he was just used as back up to Raynes/Atkinson.

Think we've 8 League games on a Mon/Tues next season. If missing those meant he played 38 Saturday's then he's first name down for me. Streets ahead of Raynes or Atkinson...

Good defender when he plays but red cards against Oxford and Dagenham meant he missed the last four games when we needed him.Pretty sure he was suspended at the start of the season too.

He's the best defender we've got. Maybe the best player overall in the squad.

I will he gutted if he goes as the ability is definitely there and as already stated a large portion of games missed we through suspension. I feel that in a better team he would excel even more.

Curle keeps talking about squads and rotation so I don't see Troys injury as a reason to offload him. Reducing the wage bill might be a bigger incentive - not that I know what he earns.

Probably in the top 3 best defenders in this league for me, if not the best. First name on team sheet going off ability.

However, the problem you have here if you are manager is a bit of a headache, especially if you have played the game and know how your average professional footballers brain works.

Everyone at the club was aware of the situation regarding Troy when Kav went in for him, he could be relied upon to play 1 game a week max, Troy was honest to say that as well. Kav thought he was worth it and give him the big contract and said to Troy you let me know how you are for the upcoming match, this could even be on the morning of the game. To be fair to Troy who would turn down the offer of a good contract and a manager who understands his knee would have to be managed. And for someone who does have injury problems no one could ever say he doesn't put his body on the line for the team when he plays, he is all or nothing and a class act as well.

I think the problem for the manager is that as mentioned, he can't train consistently, he doesn't know himself if he can play consistently, and sometimes he doesn't know until Saturday morning wether he will be involved. I have seen the stats above and people are right to say he is worth keeping, the thing is you want to ideally prepare your team from Tuesday onwards and know who is going to be playing as a manager, and certainly run through team shape Thurs/Fri. You cant really do this when you are waiting on this kind of decision. Also as a player you want to prepare all week and when you get the nod Thurs/early fri you go into that zone, its hard for players to be kept hanging waiting on the fitness of a player. And what about the players who are putting it in in training all week and still don't get in, a resentment would build and that's not good for the dressing room, its only natural it would if you are a determined pro. I'm just giving you an idea of what thinking maybe involved in these decisions. Yes we don't have many Sat/Tues games but having a settled back line is key. At the end of the day if Troy didn't have a problem he simply would not be at Carlisle United such is his quality. I don't envy managers at times like this!

For ages we cried out for a unit like Troy at the back, personally I want him to stay, I think the main issue would be the fitness and if That was kept to a high standard then he is easily the difference between a

Surely one of the top paid players at the club, cant only play 3/4 of the games if he stays fit all season that is.

Aren't Orient releasing a central defender who wants a move back north? Straight swap and I reckon I have a good idea which one will play most games next season.

However good Troy is, it can't be good for the other defenders. Say you bring Raynes in for a Monday night game but he knows that it doesn't really matter how well he plays as Troy will be straight back in. Unless he wakes up on the Saturday and realises he can't play, so you go back to the other player and hope he is still fully motivated to play. Was worth a gamble but he didn't play enough games last year, nor was our defensive record so good when he played that you have to pick him.

Good point Jelly concerning the other defenders, that was basically the point I was trying to make, I know EVERYONE at the club rates Troy ability wise, I was just putting forward a view of why they may look to move him on, but people will see it as the manager doing wrong whatever the choice.

That was the beginning of last season.

He also served a 4 match bam at the end of last season but I think it was completed in the last 4 games.

I do like Troy and i'll be gutted to see him go. If that does happen, you'd have to think that Curle has a replacement ready to come in. If that's not the case we have problems but it potentially could be good business if we get a replacement that can play more consistently.

Sorry but Troy is the best defender at the club by a country mile and would be in my team whenever he's fit and available!

Spurs done it with Ledley King for years and it didn't do them too much harm!

You play your best players when they're available and Troy's up there with the best in the league IMO!

The stats back him up and he'd be the exception to "disrupting" a team for me! Again the facts show his longstanding knee injuries were fairly irrelevant!

On top of that when we were crumbling last year he was the one who gave 100% and kept us going with his exceptional performances!

I hope he stays and I hope these rumours are untrue

Quite right james you are entitled to your opinion, I'm simply explaining what can sometimes happen behind the scenes, I don't see it as "get rid" because as I have said I know the manager and staff rate him very highly like we all do. Sometimes there are other reasons for moving people on,who knows they might want to keep him at all costs, I was responding to the rumour and why the club may look at shifting him.

I'm with the camp that I would keep him and play him whenever fit, but I don't have the responsibility of keeping the board, supporters and players happy! That's a big task.

Troy only played 15 games last season. getting sent off in two of them.

Lummy - would you say that the players are likely to respect a player of Troy's quality and accept that when he's fit, he'll be back in the side? Makes you wonder how they did it with Ledley King at Spurs. If Troy goes, we look a lot weaker at the back with Raynes/CMW/Grainger/Atkinson to pick from (and arguably, the latter two look better at CB in a back three).
