It really doesn't matter what his title is to be honest... that is just window dressing. If you think as a major shareholder he is going to sit back and have nothing to do with the running of the club then you are crackers. If he genuinely is going to take a back seat why would the VP resign now over differences with Nixon?
I suppose that could be the reason why Robin Brown has chosen now to resign. As a way of showing that although he's 'stepping down', Nixon will still be very much in charge
