TOPIC: 442 Season Review

Just wondered if anyone else had seen this. Got is down as 22nd place finish which I don't think is too far from reality. Two teams to finish below us are Newport and Mansfield. Personally I think Dagenham & Stevenage will both struggle, Mansfield, Accrington & York will be down there as well

Usual lazy national journalism taking a glance at the table for last season and pretty much taking a stab at it. I don't think we'll be promoted or even a series play-off contender but I've a feeling we'll be a lot higher than 22nd - with the players we've signed I don't think we'll be anywhere near as soft as last year. We may not score hatfuls of goals, but I don't think we'll ship anywhere as many as the last few years.

I think they had us down for relegation 10 years ago when we went on to win the league title. Generally, they know nothing of the football league, they try their hardest to pretend that they don't though.

You can see where they're coming from though. We've been dire for years, this has now been the what - 5th consecutive year of massive player overhauls in the close season? Why would this year be any different to all of the others?

History doesn't mean it's granted we will be clart though. What are they basing it on? Accrington and Morecambe are heavy faves to go down every season, yet they always survive. Barnet flirted with conference for a few seasons, they went down and now promoted back yet they're 1 of favourites for the title. Why? Based on what evidence?

Haven't got it in front of me but the RFO have us going down. What they said wasn't far from the truth but I don't think we'll be quite that bad.

Bet365 (at last check) had us at 14/1 to go down and 16/1 to be promoted. To me that's mid table and I'd rather go with bookies than a magazine

I'd say we've strengthened in areas we badly needed to over the close season, though I'd still be happier if we had another proven centre back on the books....
I can't honestly see us being relegation fodder this year.
Think back to last year and how as bad we were and there were still teams worse than us and not all were those below us in the table too...

Think 4-4-2 have got their info from last years table again.
Bookies are a far better indication as they actually make an effort to look at the chances before deciding to label you as a mid-table finish.

Not every Bookmaker will sit down and make an opinion on League 2, most simply copy - for example bet365 are 10s now on Carlisle to go down, many people will think money has been placed on them to force that price down but the likelihood is they have simply tidied up the prices and gone 10s to sit in the middle as they have no opinion on the market.

Sporting Index are the marker what sets a lot of this often, they reckon Carlisle will get 58 points - meaning they expect them to be 17th or 18th.

My point being that at least somebody has made an effort to look at others and someone in betting circles will actually have made the effort to make even a slightly informed price....
4-4-2 simply look at the league last year and tell us what the league said last year....which is very poor for supposed football journalists.

Carlisle could be 5s to go down by Wednesday if the Racing Post put them up to go down in the pullout on Tuesday.

Why is it that people assume that they've just looked at the table and predicted it from there?

As the OP said Newport are predicted to get relegated. They finished 9th last season. Surely that suggests at least some sort of informed opinion?
