Not sure if this has been posted over the last 24 hours as I'm struggling for connection, but the offside rule is changing slightly again this season.

An example of how, consider an attacker standing in an offside position who allows the ball to go past him without making an attempt to receive the ball. The ball is eventually recovered by a defender who starts making his way back up field. The attacker who was originally in an offside position now starts applying pressure to the defender. Last season it would have been allowed as it would have been considered a 2nd passage/phase of play however this season it would be given as offside.

I would love to see the offside rule scrapped for a season to see how it would affect the game as a whole,the refs are getting it wrong to often and there is to much money at stake these days,how much would a championship club lose if they lost out on promotion due to a refs error?

It isn't the only change tot he rule either...

A player will not be offside from a teammates shot even if he attempts to divert it.

ie like the disallowed newcastle goal v Man City.

Not so keen on that change, what is to stop an attacker standing in front of the keeper and shielding the shot ?

Why don't they change it back to the old rule when everyone knew what the hell the rule was. All this phase one ans phase two crap is completely unnecessary. Isn't the beauty of the game that attracts millions down to how simple the game was to understand?

I hate the way they berate the refs . For most of the decisions they get them spot on and rarely miss ones that are obvious at the higher levels. The new role makes it even harder for them and gives the so called experts another stick to beat them with when the decision is a debatable one.
They should concentrate more on the behaviour of the players and managers first before over complicating something that should be fairly straightforward

Not to sure whether thats correct as the new rules state (it may be correct though):
"A player in an offside position shall be penalised if he; 1. Clearly attempts to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent or; 2. Makes an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball."

I didn't listen to the ref but just read the bit underneath, presumably they repeated what the ref said but then again

The relevant bit...

So what is the difference this season to the previous campaign? Well essentially, if a player has a shot at goal and a team-mate in an offside position makes a play for the ball – even if they do not touch it – the goal will now be disallowed.
