TOPIC: Symington to Barrow - Three month deal

Good luck to the lad, hope he does well.

He needs to realise that being a footballer isn't about strutting about like you've made it as a teenager, been left behind by Dempsey, Potts and Brough who all have better application.

Hope he does well, never realised his early promise ,lived off that fantastic free kick.Obviosly there is somthing in there maybe Edmondson can get it out.

Yeah really hope he does well. Heard James Phillips on the radio say that he totally lost his confidence under Kav at full back, he got to a point where he was that worried about making a mistake that he couldn't do anything right. Looking back at the team then he certainly wasn't on his own that was the majority of the team/squad - nobody had a clue what they were doing or the confidence to get out of it.

Hopefully that experience though will help him push on in the future, I'm sure he is capable of getting back in the league.

Not really mush, I was in the baguette shop next to the club one morning where he was complaining about being knackered and having to be ready for the bus at 12 to go and play.

Isn't a Dempsey or even a Potts but there's a reasonable footballer in there. Once seen him play in the centre of midfield and he looked quite good.

Paul Murray should sort him out!

Maybe he was knackered Melbourne. It's not all beer and skittles being a footballer!

To be fair to Melbourne you have to remember his age. Football was a simpler, more honest pursuit back in the 60s way before Sky's golden loot corrupted the people's game.

Apart from a freak free kick or 2 I didn't see the promise some raved about.
He may still come good under a manager who knows what he's doing, Kav didn't. I hope he does come good.
After the free kicks I think the expectation was too much for him to achieve. He was never going to reach the level some expected.

He did show god promise - he's played in a stupid position and never been given an opportunity in a role that worked for him.

Let's not forget when Brad Potts was at RB everybody called for his head and threw him out the team in their eyes. He moved forward, performed and showed he was a half decent player.

Same with Dempsey - Kav told him he wasn't a CM player. Plays in CM and proves doubters wrong.

Never understood why Symington wasn't tried on the wing when we were crying out for wide men for what seems like the last two years. He played CM in the cup against Tranmere away for about 25 mins and actually looked promising there.

He certainly has the technique to come back into the FL and if the bad injury he suffered hasn't hampered him too much and he is not played at full-back I think he'll manage it.

I agree though he was messed around big style by Kav, it is ridiculous to think we started both the last two seasons without a recognised right back while having about 15 midfielders!

I will never forget when people were crying out for Symington to get a run of games instead of the out of form Jon Paul McGovern. Abbott played him on the left wing, clearly out of position, and after the game said something along the lines of "this is why I don't start him." He was dropped immediately.

Hope he can rebuild his career at Barrow, then earn a longer deal, then take it from there and get back to league football, who knows maybe get there with Barrow.

That wasn't the first time that clown set someone up to fail just to prove a point, I remember that now Mike now you mention it. Paddy Madden on his own upfront by about 30-yards away to Brentford live on Sky was another.

He could put a brilliant ball in but I think folk are wearing rose tinted glasses. Yes he was wasted at right back or on the left wing a number of times but there were also a number of times where he was played in position and was just a lazy sh*te. More interested in frequenting Concrete/Time Bar on the sow and being a Billy big b*llocks than anything else.

What I would say though is that the likes of Madden and Loy just didn't fit into the formation we were trying to play. It was a case of square pegs in round holes. Symington is different because it was a case of him just not being good enough. Beck was the same. They lived off their first season and never improved beyond that. Yes, he could hit the ball hard and occasionally put a decent ball into the box,but any so-called 'winger' can do that. It's nice that he was a local lad and all that but he was crap more times than not, and that's down to him, not down to anybody else. Dempsey was played out of position by Kavanagh but still did well and ultimately ended up playing in his preferred position. I think Symington will do quite well in non-league but I'd be very surprised if he makes the grade again at this level. I won't miss him coming on late on in the game when we need a goal and him deciding to smash it towards goal from 40 yards out and into the Eden.

I thought Beck was doing ok. Pre season he was scoring if I remember correctly then we couldnt' score in the league and he was shipped out on loan by Kav. Even if he wasn't the finished article or good enough to start, as a forward who does know where the goal is he should have be on the bench to throw on with 10 mins to go. Needless to say with most our matches under Kav that would have been pointless as we were 4 down by half time.
