TOPIC: Player Ratings

Anyone at the game today able to post their player ratings?

Gillespie - 7 Solid. No chance with their free-kick
Miller -7 Did well, too many crosses went straight out
Atkinson - 5 Not good. Lost his man numerous times and couldn't pass.
Raynes - 6 Won headers but when 1v1 he has no chance
Grainger - 6 Average
Brough - 6 Dissapointing after impressive friendly performances
Hery -7 Bit of flair and trickery. Takes risks
Joyce- 7 Kept things ticking over. Is he better than Dicker though?
Kennedy - 7 Best midfielder today. Defended and got forward.
Ibehre - 8 Hold up play is brilliant. Great goal as well
Asamoah - 6 Pleased he has stayed. Made good runs, maybe should have scored.

Some of Atkinson's cross field passes to Brough were absolutely on the money.

And to answer the Joyce v Dicker question, Dicker is technically better, but Joyce covers more ground and gets around the pitch quicker and isn't scared to go in for tackles. He's what we've been lacking for years imo.

Gillespie 7 - not much to do no chance with the goal
Miller 6 - got better
Atkinson 5 - awful first half okay second half
Raynes 5 - suspect
Grainger 7 - surprising
Brough 4 - really poor
Kennedy 6 - started well but faded
Hery 7 - lively
Joyce 7 - played well but gave away foul for goal
Ibhere 7 - good first half and goal
Asamoah 3 - awful, definitely not better than Wyke or Rigg

Agree with all STH ratings

Brough had a really bad game. Atkinson is a strange one god awful one minute then a cross like Beckham the next.

Hery is going to frustrate me all season.

I'll just add on the performances today both us and Mansfield will be well down the league table.

really surprised Grainger got rated over 6 by more than two people. I thought he was our weak link, despite having a 5foot centreback

The Archer's thoughts:

Hery can really see a pass, was my MOM
Kennedy is a class act at this level
Miller very useful in air and it's long time since we've had a tough tackling full back
Jabo - the ball sticks!
Grainger looks like a footballer, he's lost weight
Brough played as third striker, he was that far forward. Pity his use of the ball was so woeful
Asamoah's speed caused them problems but too often he didn't play easy pass and ran into trouble.

I'm pleased Curle is trying to get them to pass it from the back but Gillespie doesn't need to roll it out every single time. The opposition soon get wise and we end up playing kamikaze balls. Last season Gillespie kicked it, now we've got a useful target man he ignores him!!

Really don't get this Dicker obsession haven't been impressed with him at all, only shows flashes of ability, even Sweeney looks better and certainly give more commitment when playing.

Sweeney should switch to athletics and give Mo a run for his money, one of the worst footballers i've seen not bad at 'putting a shift in' though, thats my opinion and you are entitled to yours

The first time I saw Raynes I thought jesus wev got rid of ohanlon for him ?
And I'm not a fan of Brough although he's young and I'm hoping he'll get better .

Gillespie 7 - Saved what he needed to, couldn't have expected him to save the goal
Miller 6 - Good for most parts, got stuck in, although we were exploited down the flanks often due to him being too far forward
Atkinson 5 - Thought he had a bad game, some of his passes were very good but defensive wise he was poor in my opinion. Surprising as i thought he'd be the best of the defense after seeing pre season.
Raynes 6 - Good for the most part but perhaps lucky not to be sent off.
Grainger 5 - Just doesn't look comfortable
Brough 6 - See Miller
Joyce 7 - Always available for passes, kept the play ticking well.
Kennedy 6 - Not quite as good as normal, still showed some good drive going forward though, missed a chance to slip in Asamoah for a 1 on 1 in the second half.
Hery 6 - Beat plenty of men with his trickery, but dawdled on the ball too many times and stopped some good attacking moves.
Ibehre 7 - Hold up play was very good, brought other players into the game, took his goal well.
Asamoah 7 - Movement was very good, would have scored if Mansfield's defender didn't take advantage of the ref being garbage and shoving him in the back when he went to head in.

Not sold on our defense at all, i think our midfield is the strongest part of our team but we look a bit weak at the back, and our formation means that we're going to get done down the wings quite often. Still, i think we look better than last season, so hopefully we can push on. We need to stop trying to play triangles next to our own box and just hoof the ball clear sometimes, we've got Ibehre, hoof it clear reasonably centrally and he'll have a chance to take it down.

I didn't think our defence was too bad yesterday. They scored off a free kick and other than some decent long range efforts, I can't really remember them getting any clear chances on goal.

Atkinson was dodgy for 20 minutes but once he realised that he wasn't going to win headers against their man, so need not bother even challenging, he was fairly steady thereafter.

CraigWL Raynes was not close to a sending off as the player was not in centre of field and other defenders were level with Raynes and possibly would have made it across. The player was also far enough outside the box. If he had done it inside the box then he would have been off and a penalty given.

On the issue of Raynes, I thought he did ok. He certainly showed leadership after the Mansfield goal went in and generally did ok. I thought playing a back three away from home gave Mansfield unnecessary opportunities to use the flanks and stretch the three defenders across the penalty area. If they had whipped in quicker balls to runners through the middle we could have been in real trouble.
