Got the email to download it, but I'm a bit nervous about it, anyone have firsthand knowledge about it. Cheers

Another piece of sh*t operating system designed for mobiles and tablets with no regards to regular PC/laptop users all because they're too lazy to make a proper operating system, they would rather continue to flog the dead mobile horse which they have made a terrible a*se out of. Upgraded this morning, changed back back an hour ago, couldn't find a bloody thing. Old system much easier to use.

Upgraded last week on one of my laptops, one I use for leisure rather than work. No problems at all. Seems a bit faster than Windows 8 and incredibly faster than my Mac.

I believe there is a scam email that is suppose to be from microsoft not sure the upgrade is downloaded through an e mail so be wary.

Upgraded on two PCs at work and one at home with very little problem. Had to re-do quite a few settings but nothing drastic. Actually quite like it - certainly better than Vista!

Scrapped windows a few years ago and moved to Linux (mint), took a bit of getting used to at first with regards installing programs etc which has become a lot easier than it once was,

Definitely far quicker and less troublesome than windows - and its all free!!!

Well, might as well let my first post on a footy forum be a Windows post . Had Windows 10 on my laptop and PC for 5 days now. Good and bad points. Much more desktop orientated than 8.1 and after several months of patches should be very good. Bad points so far have been problems with setting up OneDrive on the desktop but not the laptop . Problems with setting up child accounts...what a nightmare . Using Norton family instead and all is good now.

All in all, should turn out to be a cracking OS after the bugs are sorted. As one of you said you could wait 6 months if you want an easy life, but I'm too impatient. If you really want the feel of Windows 7 or XP, just install classicshell for Windows 10.

I wouldnt follow any email saying windows 10 is ready to install . The ony way ms will let you no its ready is through the icon on your desk top or through windows updates (both basically the same thing)
If you havnt got the message on the desk top check the icon as you may have some incomparability issues to deal with first .

The easiest way i found to install it was following this link www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
All you need to do is choose which version os you have 32 or 64 bit and then choose what you want to do ie upgrade or make a usb pendrive/disk image . Choosing the upgrade option allows you to download and install . You can even choose to keep all data from your previous version of windows (when i say all data i mean all date and programs even book marks and installs of firefox browser etc) or clean install .

Ive used the above link to do to upgrades one on a laptop which went fine but i did have a couple of problems to sort out mainly the touch pad stopping and not working after boot and my desktop which was very straight forward .
Windows 10 is very fast and smooth and really gives the best of 2 op systems (win 7 and win 8 ) but you can modify it alot to the way you like things the first few hours can be a little confusing though but once you get your head around it its great .
Just remember over the years ms have made one good version one shite version of windows
Win xp= great
vista =crap
win7= fantastic
win 8= worthless piece of shite
Win 10= the best so far but im sure theres a few problems in it that need sorting

Just remember you need to do the upgrade first before doing a clean install or you will need to pay for a licence key and loose your free upgrade !!!!!!!!!!!

I've had the notification on my desktop for a number of weeks now but have been putting it off as you get used to things how they are. I think I'll be waiting as long as I can until just before the deadline for a free upgrade expires.

Did it on Saturday will be going back to Windows 8

Have upgraded 3 computers (all on day one) so far and all are fine.

The only problem I had was with Kaspersky not being compatible but they've since released an update.

I like it, I like the notification centre, I like the live tiles on the start button, I like the new UI.

As someone who is fairly computer savvy, I hated 8.1 it took ages to locate anything. As has been said tablet/phone software shoved onto computers. Utter garbage IMHO. Updated to 10 what a difference I find it. Click on start and the box to access everything appears.
I wouldn't go back. But as has been said if only there was a viable alternative to MS. I am toying with the idea of using Linux on my old net book to have a play.

Updated an old 10 year old laptop, it started out on Vista Ultimate, then Windows 7 now today its updated on to Windows 10 and its never run as well . It is different to Windows 7, but life must go on as they say

It's quite different from Win7 to Win10, but the step from Win8 to Win10 isn't that big. I've only used Win10 for 24 hours and it appeals more than Win8 ever did.

I can't see why anybody would want to go back to Win8 from Win10.

I have updated and found it a total nightmare. Cannot access my email accounts. Will be reverting back to Windows 7

What do you use for your email accounts? Is it web based, or are you using some software, such as Microsoft Outlook? If web based, what browsers do you have installed. It may be a compatibility issue with Microsoft Edge (new browser), in which case there will be a solution, or a temporary workaround might be using a different browser such as Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox.

You have to give new systems time, just be patience and you'll probably find that its easier to use

I've updated my two pcs that are connected to each other via my router. I can't connect them now, or my printer that is connected to the same router...
HELP!!!

I would check your firewall settings if your pc cant see the printer etc

Some of my issues seem to have just righted themselves as well. One thing that has become clear is the difference between an upgrade and a clean install. My laptop was just an upgrade - several problems, my desktop was an upgrade (to preserve product key) then a full re-install - no problems.
