Don't know if this has been posted but apparently Skybet are covering the cost of travel and tickets for the 68/69 travelling Carlisle fans tonight.... Wonderful gesture and well done to the travelling few, well deserved!

It's absurd to have the fixture on a tuesday night. plenty of Carlisle fans would make a weekend of it so it's costing the local businesses money.

This is on a par with Platini's idea of spreading a European tournament across Europe rather than in 1 country. It might offer more countries the chance to host matches but the travelling fans are the ones who suffer for it financially. But being a top bod in football who gets all his expenses reimbursed he isn't going to see the damage to the hard working fans.

Fixture announced in June?

Nobody really starts complaining till day of match. At least nothing appears in national media till then and mainly because SkyBet use their media contacts to get pushed etc..

Cannot see things changing in a rush folks.

Sums up the state of the Sport - Football League makes huge error (or is it?), sponsor of Football League then comes in and gets some free publicity by spending a tiny amount on transporting fans. Pathetic really.

I honestly dont know what the fuss is about. Hartlepools v Newport wasnt exactly a derby game either. Fact is we play in a league where we have to travel a lot. Some of those games are gonna be midweek. Tough titty.

Not sure what people would want long term regarding this issue. Germans have been trying to get in a law where apart from on a Saturday or Sunday Clubs cannot play each other if they are more than 300 kms (maybe miles) apart.

Personally I think more Carlisle fans would have been upset if Hartlepool away was last night and Plymouth away was a week Saturday.

Totally agree. Maybe 300 more will be able to get to Hartlepool on a saturday. I doubt a extra 300 would go to Plymouth. Now the league cup is a different matter. If that was regionalised for the next round then that would be a winner.

As much as this is a great gesture from SkyBet (and PR opp) it's strange that the have decided to cover the match ticket + £37 for travel, when the official travel charged £40. You would have thought they would just use those as amounts.

As far as leagues go, I think it should be regionalised (north/south) up to the championship. Though where the line is drawn would be up for debate.

Don't think it was folk complaining as such, just the media saying how ridiculous it was. Bound to get the odd long trip on a Tuesday night. Club only themselves to blame for not having a proper go at trying to survive when in league 1. Back then it was a fairly northern set of fixtures, even better now. :S

Great gesture and also very good publicity for Sky bet. For the record I calculate the trip cost me over £400 - me and my daughter chose to fly from Manchester, I had to bribe my daughter to come and keep me company by promising to take her shopping. It breaks down as follows...
Train to and from Manchester airport £30
Flights to and from Exeter £180
Car hire £40
Hotel £82
Top Shop Plymouth £91
Food and drink £50
Match tickets £27
Total £470
That scares me now! However, Plymouth is a ground I had not done, we had a great couple of days away....Sky bets generosity is very welcome!
