Also managed to rest a few players for the weekend - difficult balancing act, executed really well. He'll be judged on the league though. Saturday is a big game.

I think if we win a couple of league games then the credit will come.

The worry at the moment for me is that he's still tinkering; and while the results are inconsistent you don't know whether he's getting the tactics right or he was just lucky last night. If we start to win a few games and he continues to change the formation/personnel to suit the team we're playing against then the praise will flow.

He can, however, have praise for sticking Asamoah up top last night and therefore almost forcing the lads to pass the ball around rather than lump it.

Can’t help feeling that a lot of the anti-Curle sentiment has nothing to do with his skills as a coach and more to do with the fact that he’s not exactly like your average Carlisle bloke – and we do tend to like those made in our own image!

And I don’t just mean the fact that he’s black – but that he’s athletic, intelligent, articulate, and self-assured. No surprise then that Abbott was so popular among some. Not suggesting for a moment that Russ was fat, thick and a bumbling whimp – but on a sliding scale I’d say he was further that way than Curle.

Maybe time we started judging our mangers on merit and not whether we’d be comfortable having a beer with them in the pub

Well that`s always the worry paddock, however he (Curle) seems to be prone to the element of surprise in choosing his team - hence Sweeney pops up, never started for ages except pre-season, and looked pretty brassed off when I saw him after the game last Saturday, leaving Foxys with the young lads. Re-called and plays a blinder.
