Boxing career (if you can call it that) and now on twitter what a k***!

I wish him well. Was a committed and talented footballer for us. And there was no lack of commitment as a coach and manager, he did his best but it was lacking pity his players weren't as committed.

I imagine he'll take to it very well, people often underestimate how strong elite footballers actually are. I'll be surprised if he's got no boxing experience in him as well.. it's still a very popular sport in Dublin and lots of young lads train...

I actually boxed a couple of ex-footballers in exactly the same circumstances in Ireland.. one a white collar event and one just a fund-raising exhibition. Just League of Ireland players, no-where near the level of Kavanagh of course but after about a 6 week training program they were streets ahead of the other lads they started the course with. Any half-decent boxer would have still completely mullered them of course, which is why I was in the ring with them.

If they are doing White Collar in Carlisle and anyone is thinking about doing it I couldn't recommend them any more highly. You get well looked after.. or at least you should. I've seen rounds last about 30 seconds before the bell ringing as both lads were so knackered. Having said that as soon as someone gets seriously hurt, which probably will happen somewhere, sometime.. they won't be allowed in the UK anymore..

It is a matter of time before they get banned. You are actually getting decent lads fighting each other at them on top of the usual white collar fights.. It's a good way to give experience to young amateurs.. fighting under lights, in front of a crowd and with all the ring entrance etc... what will stop them in the end though is some cowboy setting one up and somebody getting seriously hurt.

One of those fights was at heavyweight actually.. I was giving away almost 15kg which would only be allowed in Ireland. I was told by one of my coaches just to keep my hands up... sports psychology isn't too advanced in that part of the world...
