TOPIC: Fan Rep - Fan trouble

I would like to know what the 4 reps think of yesterday's trouble and how would you handle this with the media and those involve?

There was no fighting.just young lads working themselves,get over it

Are fan reps going to be the new FAO Laffy posts.

Its not always about fighting and not always about young lads - it can be about older blokes (possibly fathers them selves) and their behaviour (ignorance)? and there is no cure for that.

Rsblue I was at the match just to the left of the goal, near the front in the middle of the second row. I didn’t see any trouble as such except one lad who ran onto the pitch after Miller’s goal. However, I did notice (it was hard not to) that the police were concentrating their numbers at the far end of the stand nearest the Hartlepool fans.
Games against our ‘local’ rivals for example Hartlepool and Preston, will always see large numbers of fans travel, especially on a Saturday. For most of us these are special occasions ones where we can gather in large numbers, meet home fans we don’t often see at away games and, hopefully, get a result that eases the journey home. Sadly, when we travel to these games there is always an element of supporters who go for more than the football. Happily this rarely happens outside of one or two games. For instance at QPR, 450 Carlisle supporters had a great night singing their hearts out, chanting and cheering madly when we won. I heard of no trouble with stewards or the QPR fans.

As Fan Representative I would want to ensure that match day experiences are, as far as is possible given the constraints on what you can and can’t do, value for money and, above all, safe for all supporters. As I don’t know the details of any specific trouble, it would be wrong to make comment on yesterday’s match, and I promise I’m not trying to duck the issue. I remember going to football in the 70s – the running battles during and after games weren’t fun for most of us! I don’t want those days to return. I want fans to enjoy themselves, but not to the detriment of others. Anyone who encroaches on the pitch, throws things on the pitch, abuses other fans, the police or stewards are not true fans, and they’ll only bring unnecessary negativity and harsher treatment of our fans at away grounds (just ask the stewards at QPR what they thought of Cardiff City fans).

What I would say is that if I was Fan Representative I would want to see any reports on trouble at matches and would ask for any comments from fans who had poor experiences at any game to contact me or the club. I would then raise any themes or issues that came from this feedback, plus any other observations and comments from, say, the police and the away club, and discuss this with the club and our supporters’ groups, as well as on the forum, to review how tickets are allocated, perhaps having, for example, a family section and area for the older fans.

These are just initial thoughts – help me get the fan representative role first and we can discuss it more after that!

According to Hartlepool there was 40 seats ripped up and fans spitting on players?

I don't think the behaviour of our support is anything to worry about, certainly not when compared to the knuckledraggers which follow some other clubs.

Unfortunately, football attracts these events. Whilst I don't know the full extent of what is reported to have occurred, I don't think it's right or acceptable for any minority to represent our club in a negative light.

How it was handled in the media would depend on what questions were asked. With it not yet being in the media spotlight, other than some tweeting from the losing side, I definitely wouldn't rush to throwing it into the public eye.

The match day experience can be spoiled for different people in different ways. Inappropriate behaviour is a common cause and I would look to work with the club and match day staff to eliminate this as much as possible.

Realistically; it's important to remember that this is the world of football. People will run onto the pitch. People will throw inflatables. None of the candidates for fans rep can stop behaviour such as that single handedly.

40 seats is a lie ..was 6 or 7 max and if they had replaced them in the last 30 years they wouldn't have been smashed so easily ,mine nearly fell to bits when I sat on it. Bitter monkey hangers .

There were more broken seats after last years visit to be honest. I only saw about 4 or 5.

The fan who spat on Scott Harrison should be banned, that is not acceptable. Fans running on the pitch again is silly, and Cumbria Police have already said banning orders will be given out. (Hartlepool fans ran on the pitch after Paynter's penalty, they don't mention this)

I thought our fans were excellent. A great atmosphere, everyone stood up and everyone singing. Sadly, Liverpool won't be the same.

Some of Carlisle most iconic moments of the last 20 years have included a pitch invasion, Chester when Dobie scored, Lincoln when Heggs scored, Scunny when Thorpe scored, absolutely brilliant. Sod all to do with the fans rep imo.

What will the fans rep be able to actually do to stop the vast minority of fans who'd rather cause trouble than support the club?

People just want to break a cause trouble and use football as an excuse, saying it's a football match is no excuse to act like a complete idiot, I hope the fans who did it are named and shamed while also been charged to replace the seats.
