TOPIC: FAO David Allen

Just been reading the article when David decided to walk away. This was nearly 6 years ago and nothing has changed since then. The old boys club is still standing firm.

I'd love to get this guys view on the muppets and for him to let us know more details of why he decided to walk away.

I have my own views and commitment to the club but as a member of this board, I can’t deliver it. In fact, I can’t see how the club can move forward until we have a complete change at the top. New ownership needs to come in with power, vision and direction.”
Gave me a giggle but worried me as well as its been so long and nothing has really changed.

6 bloody years and the same stuff has been said and keeps getting said.

Don't know much about his vision but whenever he spoke on radio/tv he talked absolute bollox and made me cringe.

Surely if he was so passionate for the club to advance and change he should have stayed and tried to make it happen.

By quiting he couldn't make any difference, and it's not like he campaigned for change once he had left was it.

He was never a fan, he doesn't even like football. Fair play he knew what they were like, but who didn't? He's not the answer, never was.

I don't think it was entirely, I think he actually thought he could make improvements at the club. I spoke to him once about it when he'd just gone on the board, and to be fair to him he had, what I thought at the time, were some good ideas. Looking back he must have had problems getting any of them past the other 3, and that was why he left.

He is, in actual fact, a proper accountant, and a pretty good one, so his financial ideas, and his ideas for increasing other revenue streams seemed entirely sensible to me. He got it wrong with his projections for crowd sizes though, and I told him that, in no uncertain terms, but he hadn't the knowledge of either football, or Carlisle United to even listen, he'd been given the numbers by somebody else and was sticking to them.

He would have been better than any of the current 3, and he might even have become a very good director of a football club, but never a MD I don't think.

But quite honestly, no I don't think he was in it for personal gain only.

Sounds like he could've been good for the club then.

To be honest I do believe the current directors when they say they are fans of the club and want the best for it, I just think that they have neither the ideas or means to make this happen, nor are they willing to admit this, which has resulted in great damage to our club.

Deckchair, while Fred was still involved, I managed to blag a couple of freebies for the directors box, this was when the 4 of them were on the board and Fred was the owner. It was for a game against Tranmere when Kevin Gall scored.

I was able to see them (all 4) in action that day, and yes, I thought that all of them were real fans of the club as well. A number of things they did that day made me think they were on the right track. There were some lads pitched up saying they were touring the 92 league clubs and asking would it be ok to go in the home end rather than away. Not only did they let them do that, they were given free tickets, a tour round the boardroom and a meeting with some players, it was Nixon who did that, and it showed our club in a great light as far as I was concerned.

But things have changed, Fred is no longer there to hold everything together, and to give the club and the blokes themselves any sort of direction, plus they are much older, both actually and in outlook on life. At that time they didn't seem to have that insistence that everything they said or did was the right thing, and it really looked, to me anyway, that the club was on the verge of something.

Sadly look at us now.

Couldn't agree more. I think nowadays it's not enough for Directors to just be fans of a club, they need to bring something to the table aswell otherwise the club ends up standing still or even going backwards as we have.

My one memory of Nixon which made me dislike him is from when we got married at BP in 2013, as we were having photos taken on the pitch he turned up pitch side and called the lass running things over just to tell her he was going on holiday, didn't say hello to us or congratulations, but felt it was OK for him to interrupt something that we had paid for to tell her something he could've done at anytime.

Just struck me as rude, which to be fair the lass running stuff apologised for, but it still annoyed me.

I think you're right, and that really is where the club has gone. From what seemed to me like a club aligned with it's fans, the community and football as a whole, to an insular and inward looking non entity within just a few years.

That is an appalling way to treat somebody on their big day, he should have been delighted it was happening, he should have done everything he could have to make you feel welcome, and part of the club. Instead what he did was something that could have alienated you from the club completely. All he'd have to have done was walk a few more yards and shake hands with the pair of you and say congratulations, and thanks for sharing your experience with Carlisle United.
