TOPIC: after the Barnet game

From last week after the Barnet game.

The club were showing the England game / offering drinks and food for £32 a table, most tables had 4 or 5 people on they also had a raffle. First off they were giving tickets out not per drink but per round which a few people were not happy about as some were buying rounds for the whole table.

Then probably the most tinpot I have ever felt as a CUFC fan, they proceed to get Derek Asamoah to draw out ticket after ticket ( nobody shouted the first few times ) the prize - 12 bottles of Heineken presented in a 24 bottle box. I don't think anybody could believe it. The free drinks ( 8 in total though see below ) they served up were warm bottles of Heineken or 4 pints and roughly 4 bits of chicken each. Like stated most had 4 people on the table so it worked out at £8 for a few bits of chicken 2 warms bottles or a pint each. The staff working didn't have a clue how to deal with people's complaints about this so called deal either.

Seen somebody speaking to Phil King about the whole thing he looked abit perplexed. Doubt many will be going to future events such as this unless they seriously buck their ideas up.

Not sure how busy the bars were afterwards but I would say the early kick off probably back fired on them as it give people chance to walk up town and get in a pub with plenty of time until kick off. I they had kicked off at 3pm then it would of finished just before kick off and more likely people would of stayed there rather than head up town and miss the first few minutes.
Sounds disapointing that it wasn't as good as billed, the raffle probably because they give out tickets before the match as well should of just been for them who went in afterwards have made similar mistakes before.

God knows what Asamoah thought, James Phillips was also taking photos of the chicken platters , not sure why though. A few said the only saving grace was the fact that lummy was there and made time to talk to everybody who I think comes across as a great ambassador for the club.

Phil contacted me through the week to see if I would pop down after the match which was no problem at all, I had also sorted Murph out to come as well but he had to go up to Ayr for training last minute. Shame to hear about some of the problems that occured, I know Phil and Suzanne were keen for it to go well, hopefully we all give it another chance.

He is a good bloke Phil, I have known him for a long time due to him going to uni with an ex of mine, so had a few nights out! That has been a good thing as I can tell him straight about what is needed and straight down the line. I have also put him onto some businesses in the area who again just want to be straight down the line with him and it has opened his eyes to what has been going on before, and what good things can happen going forward, he is definitely the right person to drive things forward.

He will be gutted about the little mishaps but as I say lets give them a chance, at least the effort is there, and as I have said before, with the right backing behind him (hopefully not too many restrictions from above) he and Suzanne can get things going.

Phil if you are reading you owe me a pint for this !

Agree with all of what you said lummy, understand Phil is probably still finding his feet, just hope those who went give it another chance. Somebody mentioned that with the right ideas and perhaps investment in the bar/seating area it would bring people in and he took it on board.

Still not sure who's the prize idea was though, however it gave us a chuckle.

Would of been nice to see murph hopefully you can both get back there again in the future.

On a similar note, i used to sponsor a player's shirt every season for roughly £450, when i was on the phone to someone at the club I happened to mention picking it up. I was told because we'd won promotion the player in question had kept his shirt but I could go and pick up an unsigned one from the club shop.
Needless to say i never bothered and haven't sponsored one since.

Shame that Melbourne, this is where the players don't hear about these sort of things, because knowing the lads who were in that dressing room if it was the promotions I was involved in, then they would have made sure a shirt was done up for you and signed. That's actually got on my nerves that it happened

There are definitely plans for refurbishment in the bars, I walked around them with Phil and we spoke about what could be done and some ideas I picked up off here also. He was all for them, lets hope he is given the funds to really make a go of it. I'm going to try and help get some businesses to sponsor certain items needed, plasma's,furniture etc to help with cost if he doesn't get much to play with.

Any chance you can sign my ball Lummy, its never too late.

On a separate note does anyone know how long the catering firm signed up for? they had no food left 10 minutes before half time on Saturday.

Always thought the bar in the Paddock would be easy to revamp. All you'd need to do is take the doors out that are there already,to open it up and try to make it into a small sort of concourse, as people always end up standing outside of it anyways. Put a roll down shutter at the end so they can close it off when needed and job done.

The other bars I've been into just remind me of working mens clubs, when they could easily be improved and modernised.

Similar story from me, as many will know this message board sponsored Courtney Meppen Walter last season, I was drawn as the person to meet him, have a photo etc - tried to arrange a few times with the club to no avail, left my details to call me back numerous time etc, gave up in the end. I haven't contributed to the sponsorship this season. It's a shame, my 5 year old was really looking forward to it.

In my defence I sorted my sponsor out with a top so all them selfish sacks of s**t need worded
