You can't really scrap your whole team every season and expect a new team to click straight away but there are worrying signs about the abilities of some of the signings. We've probably got the best looking forward line we've had for some time but if you don't have anyone capable of creating the chances for them then they are being wasted especially Toure who has obvious talent.

I got the same feeling today as I had with the Oldham game that the home side after taking an easy two goal lead, sat back to protect that lead. Then later on when they realised that they we didn't have much to offer, they became a bit more adventurous and hey presto got a third.

In that sense the possession stats, corner stats etc. are largely meaningless.

God help us if and when we're up against a team that decides to keep the proverbial foot on the gas for the full ninety minutes.

Honesty Laffy, they weren’t chances apart from a back pass by us to their ‘keeper. Midfield is awful. Defence and our ‘keeper awful, Hayden wasn’t perfect but held it together at times, quite stylish at other times.

First time for me watching the side this season and not always easy to get the whole picture from the telly.
I was struck by a hesitancy and nervousness there was across the side and particularly between the centre halves and the keeper. Some poor, simple balls were played by players all across the pitch of decent ability. No surprise really given the newness of the team but it does have a bit of a thrown together look to it at the moment and I got a sense of anxiousness there a little bit – you can really see this with Anderton.
The communication across the back line didn’t look great either as highlighted by the first goal. I feel for Beech because I’m not really sure he can take the blame for such schoolboy mistakes. We’re conceding goals the opposition are having to work hard to score.
MacDonald at centre half and the keeper haven’t started that well and MacDonald at the moment doesn’t look mobile enough. As with Mellish, Parkes and Liddle you wonder if perhaps he’s better in a 3 at the back?
I feel for Jon Mellish. He’s young and is learning and as a centre half is not used to playing midfield so it’s a big jump up learning to play a different role.
I thought Elliot Watt bailed us out a bit last year with his passing and his superb set piece delivery and we really missed him today. Set pieces were poor and we did lack a bit of guile from midfield to set up the forwards.
Beech was right with the attempts but they were snatched, blocked and half chances often because the balls were more hopeful when delivered in – no incisive balls splitting defenders.
Toure looks decent – very confident, isn’t he and nearly scored a belter. Good to see Kayode and Patrick back but they clearly lack match fitness.
I liked the look of the new signing from Preston. No disrespect to Connor Simpson but Walker looked ready for it and looks like he’ll be a handful.
It’s very, very early and there are good, promising signs. If Hayden’s out for a while that’s a blow. Hopefully the defence will bed in and cut out the stupid mistakes. The midfield needs a player or two who can get their head up and pick a pass or slide a ball through.
Can’t help feeling that a loan player from a league above like Callum O’Hare and Jamie Devitt added to that midfield and it looks a lot healthier. Mike Jones and\or Luke Joyce would have helped too.

It doesn't matter how many chances we create, if we concede an average of three goals a game we'll be relegated.

I'd be happier if we'd created no chances but had eked out a 0-0 draw.

Beech needs an experienced no.2 alongside him like Simpson had Booth. At present we have 2 assistants in charge, Surely this should have been evident when Beech was appointed. If the plan was to stick with Skelton as no.2 then Beech should not have been appointed.
If as it looks likely Beech will fail then surely Holdsworth must go with him.

It's not unreasonable to be unhappy with today's performance. You say you didn't watch the game - fair enough. That certainly doesn't make your opinion invalid but I can really assure you that whatever image '19 shots' is conjuring up in your mind, it's bollocks. We looked creativity sterile and never really looked like scoring.
This was not Cambridge with their backs to the wall whilst shots rained down on them - this was Cambridge having the easiest game they'll have all season against a side that offered nothing.
I'm not naturally negative and I'm quite happy to give Beech time but today was rubbish, whatever the stats say.

I have to say that was not a 3-0. Yes I know it is about putting the ball in the net, but they basically ripped apart our tactics and shape. Cambridge played like the away team. We looked better on the ball, but terrible off of it. Their goals were from out of nowhere. We got caught out 3 times with very bad defending.

As I said it was not a 3-0 and a game I think with better management and shape we could have come away with all 3 points.

Back to the training ground and get the basics of defending from the front out of the way.

I didn’t realise we had as many as 19 shots, they never troubled the goalkeeper at all. They were mostly long range hit and hopes and miles off - this is one of them times when the statistics don’t really relate.

As soon as Norman’s fit, I’d put him straight in for Farman. To be fair he doesn’t do much wrong but doesn’t do much right either and doesn’t fill me with confidence at all.

McDonald is so so slow, he looks dreadful in the two games I’ve seen.
Mellish in midfield never in a million years.
Agree with Toure he looked lively, Kayode looked unfit and Patrick miles off. Alessandra is a waste of time.

Overall really poor, but I still think there’s better players here than last season if we get them playing well. At the moment they look to similar ok technically but no organisation commitment etc etc,

Laffy is right though Beech was brought in to develop young players and make money, just look at the clubs statement when they appointed him. Problem is that doth butter no parsnips with supporters and will easily get sick of that approach. In tin pot two the aim should be promotion every time but for us it isn’t, it’s to try to get money and it’ll end in disaster. When Beech gets the sack in a few weeks Holdsworth should go as well as he is totally inept but he won’t, instead he will get a Bridges etc to take the pressure off.

We will win next week though, we should be greatful it’s on really as I’m not convinced it won’t be suspended or abandoned again.

What was Hayden’s injury? If he’s out long term we’re buggered!

He walked off the pitch but looked to be limping, also he told the physio he needed to be subbed straight away.

From the way he was limping it looked like a hamstring, but I could be wrong.

Laffy - it’s not about possession, it’s about what you do with it. Passing was poor. Crossing was poor, dead-balls were poor. There was an air of panic at the back especially after Hayden went off. Funnily I do remember quite a few attempts but they were mostly hurried shots because of few options and with a defender a yard away. It was poor fare; one of those where you think that you could play all day and never score.

Beech suggested that Hayden was a head injury and he came off due to dizziness.

It definitely fixable problems, if we drew 0-0 we would’ve been gutted not win that but we concede 3 cheap goals. There plenty of good players out there who don’t have a club but I can’t see Beech making many more signings as he obviously feels that his main signings have to succeed. Pearce ex Mansfield or Martin ex Exeter would bring great experience to a young back line but those are just fantasies. Paul green may be 37 but he could bring experience to our squad. I think we’re only 3 players off turning this around. Let’s hope the Adam Colin curse doesn’t happen to us!

This not just at the back but midfield as well. The back bone. There is no doubt we can knock the ball around pretty well, but without it we need to break up the play and get it back. If it gets to the box someone who can snuff out the danger and put it in row z ASAP.
