Best I've had during lockdown(and beyond) is Jail Ale from Dartmoor brewery. I got the taste on away trips to Devon. Buy two 8 packs and more if you like it,and free delivery. Takes couple days but worth the wait. Hope you're well NCF

I like Oakham Citra too, you must be a HopHead NCF? St Austell Proper Job 4.5% will probably go down well.

Waltero- I remember you mentioning Jail Ale a few weeks back, I saw it in Devon last week so took the plunge. I prefer lighter, hoppy beers, but it was very nice. It has a bit of everything going on. Reminded me of Sneck Lifter.

I prefer the darker ones but there are some really nice blond ones. Sneck lifter is a decent drop, in fact most of the cask ales are ok.

We've got a specialist beer shop in the village I live in (near Nottingham). I'm working my way through their shelves - 2 a week.

Best by far is stuff from Black Iris brewery. They do a lot of good stuff but their Endless Summer IPA is superb. BG Sips from the Blue Monkey brewery is another one I really like. Don't know how easy to find this stuff in other parts of the country though,

Cambridge behind closed doors meant I was denied my usual couple of pints of Jaipur in that pub that also does Thai food.

Citra is a session ale. Has anyone been to Sheffield away? Jaipur on at my local ‘spoons. They also do Pale Ryder from Kelham Island. And I’ve been asked by the barmaid today what I want, excellent service. Motörhead beer is great by the way.

Tom we had a crawl round the pubs in Sheffield a few years ago before a game..i was chucked in a boot of a car (too many if us)and taken to the Kelham Island and Fat cat pubs.....both were excellent,the sheffield tap is good if a bit pricey, although does most of the Thornbridge ales..
Devonshire Cat is in the middle area, they had a good selection of Yorkshire ales on .I dont mind the Barnsley ales either. The Rutland arms is a belter, think the beers were from busy bee (not quite sure of name). It was closest quality ale bar to Brammall Lane

A bottle of Adnams Ghost Ship went down well with my tea last night.

The Caven arms was the best ale pub in town.

McEwans Headspace, Scotch Whiskey Beer a nice smooth ale, with a fruity aftertaste.

Lovely bitter that Bomber, Walt. Hope you're keeping well and see you soon I'm sure. Worth trying the Boltmaker. I think it's what used to be called their Best Bitter but it's had a rebranding for some reason. Landlord's a lovely ale.

What a fantastic topic a change from the crass shite spouted by some on other topics.

I move between the Highlands and the East Midlands and marvel at some of the fantastic ales in both regions as well as areas I cannot reach these days or have done in the past.

My current highland favs are Hoppy Ness a wonderful IPA and Dark Ness a rich black stout from the Loch Ness brewery which was until a few years ago a shed in the grounds of a Drumnadrochit hotel.

From the East Midlands one cannot beat Harvest Pale Ale a fantastic session ale from Castle Rock and for a wow factor try Elsie Mo - Im allowed no more than 3 lol.

I love Jaipur too but same as Elsie Mo im limited in my content.

Not too sure if these are considered mainstream brews now but Wainwrights is a lovely brew as is Cumberland Ale from Jennings.

Im also partial to a nice cider and one to watch is Thistly Cross, all versions :-)

Shepherd Neame 1698 is a great ale, 4 for £6 at ASDA

TT Landlord 4 for £6 Tesco Rose hill same as Fuller's London Pride another of my favourites

For the lager drinkers too they do one called Heffe Weiss ...ive tasted it and its not too fizzy.

Banks's Amber Bitter tonight. A desperately poor bitter. Would have better off with a lager and black.

Banks' is one beer I can't get away with apart from Sunbeam I think it's called. A lot of blondes are very similar these days but it wasn't that long ago you were lucky to find more than one pub in whichever town you were in to actually serve real ale.
