Seems very quiet at Brunton Park regarding contract offers. A lot of deals expiring in a couple of months, including some players who I’d like to see us keep, particularly if we aren’t going up.

For me, we need to keep the following (in no particular order):

Guy
Armer
Mellish
Riley
Zanzala
Charters
Hayden
Bennett

A few of these players suffered major dips in form after the layoff, but all have shown more than enough to suggest they can play major roles in a successful league 2 season.

I’d also keep Patrick, Anderton, and Toure if the deals were right, and there are several others who I’ve not seen enough of to form any opinion.

I’m sure others will differ in their assessments, but I’d be interested to see how folk view this!

Armer and Riley were one year contracts with an "option" - so I suppose they can be extended by the club's choice.

Mellish is signed on until 2022 anyway.

Would add Farman to your list of players we need to look to keep on.

Tanner, Norman, McDonald, Devine, Dickensen are signed on for next season regardless.

Aye, you’re right. Forgot Mellish had already extended his contract, and I’d definitely give Farman another season.

Me too. For the first time in a while we should have a little bit of continuity going into next season - we've got some good players already under contract, but that spine of Hayden, Bennett, Guy and Zanzala is important to tie down.

I wonder if he'll let Farman go and just keep Norman next year? Bring back Dewhurst for his 3rd farewell tour.
I would try to hold together the defence, Tanner, Armer, Hayden and Bennett with Macdonald as cover. I thought Anderton was signed on for next season? If not I would let hm go, as club captain I would think he is a top earner, and he's been pretty poor.
Guy and Riley, definitely with Furnan as cover. Devine hasn't been up to much, Dickinson a waste of a wage.
Up front is where the cull will come I think. Zanzala I would expect, and hope, to be here. Beech's tactics have been fairly clear, fast, strong, front press, but it hasn't really worked. Kayode (loan), Patrick, Toure and Alessandra could all leave without any fuss. Patrick is the only one who can do anything on his day.
Charters, no doubt he will keep, but we need to see more from him.
Mellish is the enigma. His contribution seems very limited to me, but you can't argue with 15 goals a season. Let's hope his general game improves rather than the goals dry up.

If we do not go up I think Beech will try and keep the majority of the players especially with the small wages we are playing. I also think our budget will go down as with other clubs for next season.

With that in mind I hope in pre-season we experiment with different formation and tactics and find out what we do not know.

We need to adapt more effectively for next season. Beech has taken on a lot this year so I hope the responsibility is shared.

A lot of our inexperienced players will have learned a bit getting a full season under their belt.

Just curious to see one day Armer and Tanner playing wingbacks. Armer is growing quickly and can maybe see him as a centre back.

Could see Mellish leave if a decent offer is made. Maybe Guy and Bennett move on for better money. Opportunity for Charters next year.

Can see Allexandra, Kayode, Malley, Walker, Furman, Dixon, Anderton move on.

I believe if the club exercises the option they basically pay them on their current deal.

So if someone is on 1k a week on a 12 month contract with a 1 year option they would get a further 12 months on 1k a week.

If the player doesn't want to stay however then it can become messy as the club may want to keep the player and he might have a better offer elsewhere!

With Harry Kane looking to leave Spurs, he'd form a great partnership up top with Zanzala. Sign up Sam Fishburn on a 5-year contract as back up and that's the forward line sorted.

I would try and keep the majority even Scott as he has ability but needs to be given a chance. Tour'e also he has a lot to offer just needs to work on improving his end product same as Patrick.
What we don't want is to have to rebuild the whole squad again like the start of this season.
There are also quite a few talented youth players coming through, Fishburn for one as mentioned along with Bell, Dixon and Charters.
Highly unlikely that Kayode will come back for another loan season and little chance of making it a permanent move.

Toure doesn't offer as much as Patrick, so to continuously bring him in when Patrick has underperformed or has been outplayed by his opposite number is a complete waste in my opinion. Having both in the squad is a luxury, and adds nothing when a step up in our attack is required.

Patrick has shown more potential so I believe he's the better option to keep.

I'm happy to roll the dice on Scott due to his record, goalscorers are worth their weight in gold (as we've seen today).

I've seen enough of Patrick to know he's way below tier four standard. He can't dribble, he can't pass, his shooting is wild and random and he can't head the ball.

Five goals in over thirty appearances is simply, not good enough.

Come on now Nobbles, old son. Are you telling me Beech's decision making is flawless?

It doesn't matter if a player is brilliant in training if they're absolute donkey cr@p when they're in the first team twice a week (like Mellish and Patrick).

I don't believe it's possible to look any worse in training than those jokers do twice a week in the side.

Goal scorers are indeed worth their weight in gold. Which is why I think Zanzala has done enough already to warrant a new contract offer.
He’s scored 6 goals and has only started 12 games. If he produced that rate over a full season starting every week, that’s a 20 goal a season man.

I think there is a lot of good things we can work on next year. Assuming we stay in div 2 is the wage budget a still a maximum of 1.5 million.

We need to retain the right players for next year and attract good players in. There will be many good players looking for contracts so its a buyers market for value and bargains.

I think our budget will fall by 100-150,000. I think a lot of clubs will be in the same position. Interesting points raised on about a budget of around a million pounds max.

Players that would be 75000 have dropped to 50000, Players that were on 50000 will go for 35000. Do not know our budget but would be surprised if many of our players will earn more than 50 grand a year next year.

so can we do more with less. It would be nice to see one or two of our academy players come through.

Me think another tight fiscal year next year with Mellish being let go for more than 125 grand. With club savings maybe they will try and save 250 grand with transfers and wage savings. It will be interesting to see what other clubs do,

I’d not bet against Taylor Charters getting more of a chance next season. He seems to have been in Beech’s plans up until the covid outbreak, earning his start against Walsall and playing well in that game. Seems he may have been one of the affected squad members, and that could explain his absence from the playing side for most of the second half of the season.

I don’t expect us to have the biggest budget in the division next year, but (assuming we don’t go up through the playoffs) I don’t expect it to be a particularly small budget either.

The owners have no money to put in, so in effect we have to be self sufficient with a huge debt in the background.

Most clubs though will be reducing their budgets with the current situation. That’s probably going to make the standard even worse as those at the top can horde young talent for less.

Thanks Nobby. and there was me thinking we had a budget of 1-1.2 million. I thought the majority of our players would be on 800 a week minimum, better players on 1000-1200 a week.

I wonder if that budget includes the coaching staff.

If my number are correct (could be wrong) I expect to drop below a million. Clubs will be reducing costs a lot due to covid.

I know the club does not communicate about this but in the MLS i believe all wages are disclosed for transparency.
