To be honest in the short time last season he did impress me.

Considering the utter mess Pressley left, he seemed to get us more organised defensively and picked up quite a few clean sheets. Then once he brought in some players in January I thought we started to resemble something looking like a half decent team before the lockdown happened.

I think with a young team this season we may well start off fairly average, but I think we’ll get better as the months go by.

I’m optimistic while being realistic enough to understand that a promotion challenge is still unlikely.

Why is a promotion challenge unlikely? If he’s as good as you say and with budgets now very similar we should be in the top three.

Beech is a bibs and cones man. Out of his depth as a manager.

As good as I say? Have I said he’s good enough to get a team with a bottom 6 budget
in the top 3? Nope.

I expect him to improve our league position this season, and develop the young players we have over the course of the season so that we’re in a position to become stronger the following season.

Why is promotion unlikely? Because clubs like Bolton and Salford have signed proven quality on big money before the salary cap was introduced. Obviously that doesn’t guarantee success, but it makes it more likely.

He obviously inherited the mess left by Pressley and improved things before lockdown. He comes over as a decent hands-on sort of coach and looks to be putting together a squad of young, hungry footballers and seems keen to give our youth players a chance. This being the only real model for us at present.
It is now his team so no excuses, therefore lets just get behind them and see where it takes us.

Well our budget last season was apparently quite low end and Holdsworth and Clibbens have both confirmed in interviews over the past month or so that this seasons budget is lower than last seasons.

I always suspect a lot of clubs have made big cuts to their budgets as well ,

Seems hard to see us as bottom 6 plodders. Tough time for all clubs but with our recent transfer activity and relative support we should be at least expecting mid-table obscurity. We might be slightly unrealistic to expect top 3 but there is no excuse for us not being in the play-off mix.

I am based in North america where in the MLS all wages of players are open and transparent. If our budget is less than last years some of our shit players must have been on some decent coin. The market has changed especially since covid. Cannot see a player on more than 60 grand a year. Maybe with two year contracts that has pushed more players looking for more security even if players values have dropped.

From what he says and the transfers that have came in I am very happy with beech.

Beech has had to completely rebuild a squad and has had all the restrictions of lockdown etc to deal with in pre season yet still some people want to criticise the guy 3 weeks before the season even starts.

Haha Burneside, Marden made a tiny typo writing in rather than on. Marden's 'info' on Beech's and Skelton's salaries being relatively low is entirely plausible and what you'd expect.

Most are in agreement that Beeches plan will take 2 years to come to fruition, we’ve signed a very young but talented squad, some may work some won’t be we can sell them or bin them off next year. I don’t think anyone truly believe we’re going to get into the playoffs but to be around 12-7 in the table is realistic. If we get more big windfalls from players such as Henderson we can get more established players to go with the best players from this crop next season. Presley wasn’t a bibs and cones man and the players looked confused to say the least, there’s no reason why a good coach cannot be a great manager.

Nobody had heard of Eddie Howe when he took over at Bournemouth and he then took them to the Premier League, it’s clear you just don’t like Beech

Howe had been at Bournemouth before and arrived from Burnley. Of course people had heard of him.

Beech seems a decent enough fella and I’ve nowt against him but I don’t think he’ll make much of a manager.

Funny how we always get at least one person on here who hates the manager before giving him a chance. Curle Sheridan Pressley all had the knives out for them before they had even got started. Beech had to battle along with Pressley's dross with a few January additions that helped but now he has assembled a new squad so needs time to see what he can do with them.

November 2021 when we are top half in League 1 and he drops back into L2 to manage a struggling Salford, to be nearer home.

Beech has one hand tied behind his back, same as all the recent prevous managers. Boasting about the salary cap not affecting us because we are nowhere near it just about sums up the Board to be honest.
Not sure where the enthusiasm on the signings come from to be honest. Six months away from football certainly allows memories to be wiped from some. Suppose we are at least picking up cast offs from better teams instead of the Morecambes of this world. Not sure how a reject from Harlepool can be viewed as team of the year show in mind. Just shows how folks levels of aspirations have been beaten into submission.
I think Beech will have us around mid table, maybe slightly lower, and the Board will be delighted with that.

The walt I see it those of us who are losers enough to trundle down to games on regular basis, usually watching pretty poor stuff, have to have some naive optimism that we might have a good season, otherwise we might as well give up.
Lots of new players, at least some of which have an interesting profile and seem to come with a good reputation.
I felt the signings last summer seemed a bit depressing on paper.
If you were a neutral you would probably predict a season of mid table obscurity at best, but there is lots to look forward to and reasons for hope.
I dont think being an eternal optimism necessarily makes you a lunatic , it's just kind of how it works for me.

He played against enough times to not know who he was unless you've been stuck up the Premier Leagues arsehole for the last 20-odd years.

Beech comes across as a really amiable down to earth bloke unlike his predecessor so I hope he does well.

Looking at his goals for hartlepool I think hell score over 10 goals for us next season.

It's difficult to judge a manager after coming in to the complete sh1t show Presley left and having less than a season to sort things out.

It would have been difficult not to improve things if we're honest, but in the little time he's had he did an ok job last term. On the face of it he's not made any terrible decisions so far and seems to be able to identify a player or two with potential, at least.

We have some obvious concerns with the squad he's building. On paper we have a distinct lack of creativity (especially with Dickenson's injury). I like Alessandra but it's too much to expect him to be our sole creative outlet for fifty games.

Also, the way our new look defence is shipping goals all over the shop should be setting a few alarm bells ringing. In fairness, we've had a truncated pre-season and a back four can take time to gel, but we've looked poor so far defensively.

So in summary we have a squad lacking creative flair with a dubious looking defence. Not exactly a recipe for extreme optimism.

For Beech, it's all about pulling his signings together, getting them playing as a team and allowing players to realise their potential. It looks like a massive job but good luck to him, I hope he's up to it.
