For what it’s worth I get the feeling you’ve made your last statement up anyway. First time he was called up was for a qualifier which would have tied him to Wales, but he didn’t play. He then missed out on the next 4 qualifiers before making his debut in a friendly a month later, in fact it was over a year from his first call-up before he played a competitive fixture for Wales. Hardly the actions of a country picking someone just to tie him down!

In my 40 years, Jansen was the most special. Probably because he played enough games to enjoy his talent. Braithwaite looks quality but has hardly played enough to enjoy his talent. McCarron looked exciting too but he left after hardly any games so again we will never know. I doubt we will see much of him again. Lost in the system.
Galloway the same.
Delap was good. Very good at times. Potential to be very good as he proved.
Aberdeen lad had done potential but was not always good here. Many have come and gone but haven't played enough to shine which is the shame of it.
They leave to soon. Our fault, their fault, the systems fault, greed - whatever. We rarely benefit - the club or the fans. I can't see it changing any time soon especially when we are on our arse. So sad.
All we can hope for is, either a loan deal and cash or a good sell on with add ons. It would be nice if at least half was reinvested but I doubt it. I don't trust any of the current owners to do the best by the club whether they have good intentions or not.

Well we got talking about youth projects.and conversation flows, got talking about Branthwaite and how good he was , Ended up getting on to Ampadu ,Agree Branthwaite was better but you are right about the international cap giving him a better value . My point it they acted quickly to bond with the kid , You create a relationship with someone and they are more likely to stick with you than go elsewhere it's quite logical but like many on here your think way too simplistically

The football world has gone absolutely crazy with the amount of money in it. If one of the PL clubs wants to pay massively over the odds on Branthwaite then it sounds like we are finally getting a bit of luck. Not sure I’d trust this current set of muppets to spend it wisely mind.

How much is he worth? No idea and doesn’t really matter. Like a previous poster said, just depends what buyers want to pay. Think there is quite a bit of oneupmanship in PL so if one of the biggest clubs come in for him then money could get silly quickly.

We can get as much as we want for Branthwaite the money will still not get near the club

In my opinion, Ampadu is a superior player by quite some distance (based on the you age of both players at this point in there career that is). Ampadu seems to have much more pace and in my opinion is a superior ball player.

Branthwaite will have a strong career in the game, in my opinion spent in the championship or at lower end Premier league clubs (Burnley, Norwich, Palace, the Baggies (when they get promoted etc)).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in a Leeds side struggling the wrong end of the premier league in the next 5-7 years.

Added to say that if there is seriously anybody on here that thinks he is anywhere close to Jansen in terms of ability, that they needs to have a long hard think about that.

I didn’t see Beardsley play unfortunately. In the absence of him, Jansen is by a million miles the best the blues have produced in my time following the blues. None of the crop from the last 10 years (McCarron or Branthwaite included) will her anywhere near to him. Not a chance.

It's a bit like selling your house. You have several viewings, and if more than one viewers want your house then a bidding process starts. You surely don't take the first offer. A bit like this for Branthwaite. If you really want that house then you will try to outbid the others. Why not put him up for auction with a reserve of 1.5 million.

Branthwaite is the best 17 year old I've seen playing for Carlisle. Delap, Jansen and Beardsley were older when they came through. He is attracting interest because he is better than current premier league centre halves were at the same age, as Beech mentioned in a recent interview. Beardsley was good for Carlisle but didn't reach full potential until mid 20's. He didn't get a kick against Workington in the 1980 FA Cup tie at Borough Park, in fact I felt from that era it was Bob Lee who was destined for greatness.

Thinking back based on appearances for Carlisle I would rank Beardsley below Stan Bowles and Matt Jansen, and possibly Michael Bridges. No Division 1 wanted him , we sold him to Vancouver Whitecaps. He came good at Newcastle after Man Utd had let him go.

Delap made one sub appearance first year YTS, one sub app second year YTS. First year pro started two games, second year pro started 5 games, it was only then that he started to look promising. Robert Edwards is the only other17 year old I can remember playing regularly in the first team.

Steve Harkness also played as a seventeen year old, I thought Paul Proudlock would go on to greater things than him, which is why I've never been offered a Scouting job.

Wouldn't say Ampadu is faster , He's more agile , Branthwaite seems to be deceptively quick as he's a tall lad similar to Potts , His goal against Morecambe shows how quick he is. Also Would say that Watching them Both Branthwaite is as good as passing , but maybe not as good at close control but he's 4inch bigger than Ampadu and so Ampadu will have the lower centre of Gravity. Branthwaite height and Physical side gives him and advantage also he's likely still to get taller but so is Ampadu.

I see RB Leipzig are interested now as well. It must be an amazing feeling as a 17 year old lad from Wigton to have pretty much every top team in the country interested in you and others from across top leagues in Europe. Fees aside, what a choice for him to have - I can't think of many others who've attracted such high-profile interest while at the club. It's great for us as a club and for those in the youth set-up. Come here, work hard and get into the first team, and this is where you could end up.

Would the signing of Hunt suggest there’s no loan back of Branthwaite coming? Or is NKP heading out the door? We certainly don’t need Webster, Mellish, Hayden, Hunt, NKP and Branthwaite as CB’s - get some wage bill put into a striker.

Maybe I could have explained it better, the fee being asked is 1.5m, 750k up front then 750k in instalments.

That's sounds a decent deal.
