Rugby League was created by Urban Designer
I see Whitehaven are top of League 1 - is it one up and then a playoff between 2nd and 3rd?

Also Egremont are top of National Conf Prem - is this one below League 1 and is there promotion to League 1 from this League?

It is an absolute travesty that no Cumbrian Team is in Super League.

However, it is testament to the traditional purists who have held Cumbrian Rugby League back for decades.

Our short flirtation in Div 1 was headed by a Yorkshireman.

Yup no appetite for it I'm afraid as long as Town and Haven have their little rivalry they are both happy .Koukash seemed keen for a Cumbrian team but after looking at it he has moved on to start a team in Liverpool

I find it a total shan that they use teams from foreign countries in the leagues... let them sort themselves out in their own leagues..

It's because it costs the rfl nowt Mark, they are praying the likes of Toronto,New York ect take off this Liverpool team that Koukash is heading up they see the future on pay per view with the likes of Leeds v New York, Liverpool v Barcelona ect probably rebrand teams like Salford as Manchester.I personally can't see it coming off

They would just move on to Swinton or Oldham ect or give someone a franchise relocation if there was the interest obviously..

It might be a pipe dream but they see global expansion as the only thing that will save the sport ..not many businessmen getting into it over here so looking further afield ..and Manchester eg.has more of a ring to it than Salford if your a New York or Wolfpack fan

The best thing the teams below the Premiership could do would be to break away and form their own league made up of traditional clubs in the traditional heartland area and do their own TV deal seems to work well enough for the conference in football non-league.

How many of them have ever been promoted and established themselves in the Premiership I read somewhere that out of all the season teams have spent in the top league is covered 95% by just 14 clubs.

Prob not that far away Barry. Apart from the 12 there now there’ll be Bradford Widnes then Leigh Sheffield and Halifax. Workington were originally in as were Oldham but not sure if anyone else has been. Possibly Featherstone but not sure. Have I missed anyone?

Sky totally ruined RL.

The switch to summer, parachuting foreign teams into the league, Americanized team names, the bullshit play-offs where the team that finished top of the league aren't the champions.

To be fair I think the playoff system was more to do with copying the Australians than just down to sky.

There was one year Whitehaven were division 2 Champions - played Castleford in the playoffs (I think) - beat them - but that only guaranteed they would be in the playoff final - then played them again and got beat - total joke!

Have Whitehaven ever been in the top division?

A couple of years ago was another classic example, the most interesting season for years with Castleford breaking the monopoly of the big clubs and winning the league by ten points from Leeds, only to then have to play them again in the so-called "Grand Final" and lose. Rubbish.

They've had French & Russian sides in the Challenge Cup for donkeys years haven't they?

Don't really agree with having Toronto in it (although personally it's great) and New York shouldn't be allowed until the Toronto experiment proves or otherwise. To be fair though, Toronto are pumping a ton of money into it (which not many Championship RL teams could do) and funding all the away teams trips so for the authorities it's not a tough decision.

If you scop Toronto, you'd obviously need to get rid of Catalans. And London given it's a northern sport.

Whitehaven are nearly there after a 74-6 win against West Wales Raiders.

Oldham can still catch them is Whitehaven lose away at Coventry and beat Hunslet in the final game due to a better points difference.

Whitehaven should be champions though as Coventry are poor.

For crying out loud... 1,100 crowd, WTF... I used to go and watch CaRLisle, back in the day... Derby games v W'haven and Town were actual 'events'... It's really sad what had happened to West Cumbrian RL... 'Haven and Town should be up there... Not languishing where they are and picking up crumbs. I really wish someone, anyone could bring the Cumbrian game up to scratch

I once went to watch Carlisle play Whitehaven at BP and an incident on the field summed up the attitude of RL very well.

A Carlisle player had made a bad tackle on his opposite number resulting in 10 mins in the bin, most were shouting ' send him off '.

We were stood just in front of a group of supporters from Whitehaven who had a different view and were shouting ' leave him on ' summed the job up well.

They were great encounters, committed players giving all in the local derby.

Whitehaven winning 10- against Coventry - Champions elect.

Are they still full time? Probably a bit of a gap in quality to the Championship.
