I reckon Martin and Vera could make a good lower middle order batting partnership.
Martin will pick up on any dirty tricks by the Aussies, won't be drawn in to giving his wicket away easily and will spot any gaps in the field he can exploit.
Vera would give as good as she got in the sledging department , although unfortunately she has passed on, which is a slight flaw in my plan.

That was incredibly exciting. What drama. It's hard to call as a supporter watching on TV , what a good score is but it highlights what a phoney war some of the one day internationals are when there isn't really any pressure.

I'm still shaking and am exhausted that was utterly brilliant theatre,I hate England playing at Lord's we never win the big games there!!I thought nothing would match the 2005 or 2011 ashes series win but that comes mighty close superb and hopefully a shot in the arm for cricket in England

Ben Stokes was born in Christchurch but moved to the north and leant the game. At what point do you become British? Its like Konta - wave the union jack for a bigger target and sponsorship.
Do't know anything about cricket (apart from stadium capacities of course - Manchester adding a shit temporary stand to try and convince everyone they are the 2nd city) but I would have thought New Zealand should have won with less wickets lost?

As far as world cup wins go - nowhere near the Rugby World Cup in 2003 in Australia but then Im not a cricket fan - Morton School was too working class for that! I only got into rugby when going to university and that was for the all day sesh's with the Welsh/English in the 6 nations!

Did anyone actually choose to watch the absolute fantastic mens final today? It was absolutely fantastic, a brilliant duel that went to the tie breaker....better than 2008s final. Djokovic somehow won but Federer must be wondering how he lost that one in the end.. brilliant viewing.
My interest in 1 day cricket has diminished over the years but i switched over after the tennis to see this 1 over shootout....much better than a shitty duckworth lewis method that distorts a result .

It's a shame that the cricket and tennis finals clashed.
You can't really say that either are exciting all the time because they aren't.
Federer and Djokovic are brilliant but you don't get many close finishes like that.
Also not many of the games in the world cup went to the wire.
In both cases they can be pretty boring to watch a lot of the time.

See that's sport for you ...I have sat up through the night watching or in earlier days listening to TMS England in Australia or West indies and will happily watch every ball of a test match gripped yet tennis leaves me stone cold after the cricket I watched a re run of England's world cup netball game today which I follow due to my daughter being a netballer and following her to tournaments all over the place...
A shame the netball isn't getting half the exposure the ladies football got despite its massive growth in participation over recent years

Totally agreed with you till a couple of years back.
I started to enjoy watching, Golf, Tennis and Cricket only because I played them on gaming systems, Cricket the least mind you.
I think once you understand the rules and complexities of the sports mentioned by even simply playing them on a console then you start to appreciate the skills required if you play the sports in real life.
Crazy Golf is ace, I don't mind a good few rounds of that but I would have been or was crap at all of the sports mentioned in real life - even in my prime....

That was great to watch today live on the telly for a change. Cricket at its best exceeds football for drama.
I grew up as a lad watching cricket in the 70s and early 80s and loved it. I would always fake some illness to skive off school to watch the first day of a test match on a Thursday in the days of Botham, Willis, Gower, Gooch, Lillee, Thomson, Holding, Roberts and the best of them all Viv Richards.
If I won the lottery I'd just travel the world with the Barmy Army probably only coming back for the odd Carlisle game.
I know it hasn't permeated its way down to League 2 yet but VAR is putting me off football big time.

Must admit, I always thought if scores were tied the winner was the team who lost the least wickets. Super over was quality entertainment, although I thought it should have gone to another over as scores were still tied, to lose by scoring least boundaries is very harsh.
Not sure on the rules but one ex-umpire has claimed there was a clear error yesterday as England should only have been awarded 5 runs for the overthrow which went for 4 instead of 6 as the batsmen hadn’t crossed for the second run before the ball was thrown. Interesting.
