You done many this year Laffy?
There seems to be a lot more on this year but its getting time to do some.

I am participating in the Ride to the sun event on the 22nd from Bitts Park to Cramond beach..looks great as its through the night.

In August there is the Solway Spinner from Morton Manor..100km job.probs do that one as well
Then the Cross Border one in Sept, i may well.put myself through hell again with that one.

I have a superman top but i look a fat [censored] in it..so may just wear something sensible this time like fluorescent top.. im looking to set off at 8pm at latest..getting train home afterwards the following morning.

As well as doing this ride next Saturday evening, I have been raising money for the people i support on a daily basis. So thought i would plug myself on here with the just giving page that was set up. Any donations would be very gratefully accepted. The West Coasters bus have already made a fantastic donation back in May following the Yeovil trip. Its great i have passed my initial target of £300 with a lot of offline donations to go along with online donations.. so the more i raise it will go towards a good cause. Cheers folks.

Laffy ..i ordered a new british cycling top which arrived today ..its the older version with sky on it..so could be wearing that one on saturday evening.. or a sky fluo top if it arrives in time..i should be easy enough to identify...

Will you be getting scran at Moffat chippy at the 43 mile point pit stop ? A dirty chicken kebab sounds healthy enough before a 7 mile climb... I am hoping i last out 100 miles as ive not been doing long distance this year.

Dirty Chicken Kebab at the chippy before a 7 mile climb sounds like the perfect recipe for a technicolour yawn by mile 3

I did the ride at Haydon bridge last weekend, that's worth a look if you want a new route, well organised, some decent roads and some good views...not quite a chicken kebab but you get a voucher for a free hog roast sarnie at the finish too.

Only downside is the route is savage in a moderate wind or stronger.

Maybe something light to eat will do instead☺..the event organisers do say half the portions to speed up.Moffat chippy must make a bomb that night mind..reckon 1k of cyclists will participate.
Ive always fancied a different sportive in future to test myself.Out Hayden Bridge way has plenty of hills around it..Will have to look further a field next year and see if i get time off..what was the event called Huntinghorn?

What time are you planning to set off?I will be wearing my Movistar kit-the comparison with Quintana stops there.

Will check forecast-we absolutely don’t want a wind from the north east

Haha... a bit of colour then..was expecting a garmin sharp jersey to compliment that wooly hat that you always got snapped in ☺I think i will be looking to set off at 730ish. I hope there is a sneaky tailwind otherwise it be torture!

The Haydon Hundred it’s called Mark.
Plenty of hills, takes in three counties too Northumberland, Durham and as it also goes through Alston Cumbria and Nenthead you won’t need your passport

Weather looks set fair for the journey Mark-I’m coming over on the train with my mate Keith so will be setting off around 8.30.If I don’t see you before,see you at the finish.

Laffy you will catch me up before Moffat or at some point.. i wont shift as much as you on the road ..plus iive been at work for 24 hours so need a nap before i set off to Carlisle later.I hope i can last the distance..not been doing long rides this year so hoping i dont fade badly after halfway.

I see there is A Tony Hopper memorial group doing it too..hope they raise a few quid for the cause and everyone makes it through the night.. get the midge spray on too.

Wasn’t aware of midges-I’m wearing long tights then

Haha i will be right later.. a good old power nap for 90 mins normally serves me well for managing the rest of the day. Should be good atmosphere with lots participating.. Yep midge spray is a must so i am told ...i use that avon stuff ..skin so soft.. that deters the pesky buggers.

I told him the other day that he'd sold out Mush.

5 hrs 45 mins Mark-and without a front light after the Rave rendezvous.Bit hairy and it was very cold.

Impressive stuff miles quicker than me .. got round safely stayed in a group..hd a couple of item come out my seat bag near the end.missed turn for beach but found it eventually.great turnout

Had to sleep on the lobby floor in my old hotel in Edinburgh as no rooms-either that or sit outside like a tramp.

Not sure I will do this one again

A tramp??lol ive spent 3 hours in the station waiting for train. Snoozing on the seats. Freshened up int bogs..thank goodness you dont have to pay now.had no change..had another few miles nosing in Leith..at Brittania then up via Easter Road to Waverley..Some of the roads up here are substandard even in the city limits

The station was locked when I got there-just left now on the Plymouth train to Newcastle with a Cornish pasty-delicious

A lot of the cyclists slept in Waverley when it opened-no trains to Carlisle before 10am

Fair play to you fellas, doing a sportive overnight, heard a bit about it on the RC news this morning, sounded like it was a well attended event.

I'm thinking of doing the 50 mile cross border one Mark is it really tough?

The 50 mile one will be fine much easier to manage so have a go at it in sept its rolling with a few climbs but the pit stop near Penton will serve you fine..i will be doing the longer one around 80 miles which includes a long hard climb up over from Langholm to Newcastleton..it nearly broke me last year

Cyclists shouldn't be allowed to ride in packs on a main A road. They then seem surprised when one gets knocked off!

I agree Nobby-some cyclists make a point of doing it to wind up motorists and its poor

The Lanercost ride is a very pretty one-I did the 50 mile one last year and it was relatively easy though a couple of decent climbs.Will do the longer one like Mark this year.Only issue was the amount of mud on the road so hopefully a nice day ahead.

Not sure I will do the overnight one again-bit hairy at times and passing through Ed at 2am wasn’t pleasant.

Next one for me is the Solway one
