CUSG Volunteer Weeks

Hope it’s better organised than last year!

Mate did it last year, who was between jobs, and mentioned there was poor organisation, no one knew what they were doing and there was no food and struggled to get a drink of water.

He contacted the club to complain- no response. I contacted Simon CUSG on his behalf and got told it would be looked into but heard nothing back.

This was last season though. Please, please, please organise it well, whoever’s doing it as the person has never been back to the club since.

Just to feel wanted/appreciated will do!

I wouldn't give them the steam off my p1ss, let alone my free labour.

If only there was a local pie maker who could offer a little sustenance for the workers as way of a thank you

Most volunteer work provides food, drink and travel expense.

Only CUFC would expect people to clean bird sh t with no return!

With the EWM and Jenkins millions it is a total piss take.

Hardly going to break the bank is it to even pay them minimum wage, a couple of free tickets and a meal in Foxy's for their endeavour.

Seems just like Jenkins and EWM do not give a stuff about our players, fans or even people that agree to help - a disgrace.

In fairness this happens every summer and has been doing for many years.

I went along once and spent a day painting in the East Stand back when Fred Story was the owner.

In all fairness, we keep banging on about involving the fan's!!! Is this not involvement?

I think the board and their hostile, confrontational attitude towards the fans has thrown away much of the good will people have. Why should I volunteer my time to help people who hold me in such contempt they won't even answer basic questions?

When was the likes of Nixon, Jenkins etc happy to help and do a bit of painting alongside the fans or is it too much to expect of them to participate next to the great unwashed?

I think the turnout has been poor so far. As mentioned above how difficult would it be to supply a few rolls / pies. It's only human decency for somebody that's working for nowt surely.

Unfortunately, word gets about, about what a farce it was last season.

So to counteract you have to improve things to get people down again. Tickets for friendlies along with a glass of water won't cut it.

People just want to feel appreciated, the offer of friendly tickets is taking the piss. Give them a free ticket to a meaningful match and a bacon roll/pie ffs.

Fingers crossed that supervision and insurance are fully in place

Agreed. Tickets for a friendly just seems like a piss take. If that's all they can do, they would be better just offering nothing because offering tickets for a friendly just looks pathetic.

No. This is another way of being cheap and make do attitude the owners and running of the club want.

As for us however, I know last season two people that done it and said it was a farce with no organisation, no water as access was closed and no food. They didn't feel appreciated! one made a complaint to the club, and didn't receive a responce the other hasn't gone back.

Exactly mate its the same as when they ask for fans to help clear the pitch of snow to get a game on if only we had a supporters group that was capable of uniting fans instead of a selective clique im sure they would be inudated with help .
This isnt a club problem its a fans group issue and untill new blood with
fresh exciting ideas come along its only going to get worse .

True, but other clubs treat their fans a bit better than ours does, so maybe people are happier to volunteer. It's all about creating the right atmosphere, if you make the club feel like a family that everyone can be a part of, a shared identity that they can be a part of and identify with, then they will be much more willing to donate their free time to help out. Instead what do we have?

Fans are just going to feel used if that's how they are treated, it comes across as cheap and tacky. At least try and get people excited about it, make them feel that valued and appreciated by the club for helping out. Proper grub would be a start, but why not get a few first team players to come and help out and get photos taken, then post those on social media with an article about club synergy - "Fans and players working hard together for greater success". Or "We work hard on the pitch but the help and support of our fans is just as vital if we are too succeed". Maybe a bit cheesy but the general idea is to make fans feel they are valued, and make them feel a connection with the club, that they have contributed in some way to future success.

This is "The Custodians' " Carlisle United fans are just a nusiance. Their motto is if you don't like it don't come and that includes the matches!

The day we have (hopefully) new owners will be an historic one.

But the idea surely is that you're giving (your time) to the club because you want to to help out...not for what you'll get given.

Not everybody has such a cynical view of the club....stuff has come out of the mouths of those at the top table yes.....some years ago now. They are virtually gagged now and the new brooms are trying to get people onside/involved.......a lot of good stuff does go on which some continue to rubbish.

I'm trying not to be overly critical Seesaw, but last seasons volunteer sessions were farcical, its why maybe this season the turnout has been low.

If I volunteer for something I get some food, drink and expenses, although i've never claimed expenses personally, its just common courtisy. Last year they couldn't even get water as access was closed off.

I can see your point on the free ticket, but as last year was a joke offering free friendly tickets is a joke to get people down. It though depends how serious the club want these volunteers.

As always when things go tits up " it's the fans wot caused it". I'd like to see Nixon,Patty Clibbens and Holdsworth scrubbing bird shit up. If they were there I'd definitely be volunteering

Its not a reward though is it its common decency any who works at my home is treat well always offered tea and coffee and snacks wether its biscuits or butties and they are getting paid .

Surely someone at the club can buy a box of tea bags and jar of coffee a packet of chocolate hobnobs and stretch to knocking a few sarnies up as a thank you to anyone who gives up their spare time .

Theres also the added plus of fans who never meet chewing the fat over a bait time cuppa a bit of cameradery breaking out .
Its a no brainer .

Do they have to work the full 6 hours for a pre season ticket?
