We played St Mirren then Ayr United both away, Pounewatchy & Andy Couzens both got sent off ( one in each of the 2 games)

Correct decision but ultimately it's been a waste of time for all concerned. Comparatively small number of triallists and none were good enough - poor scouting/quality control.

Yeah I'm really pleased they are not signing players for signings sake, Duffus by all accounts was a shoe in, friendlies have maybe found him out, plus as mentioned Branthwaite coming through.

But........we do need players in, loans taking longer than expected but they are still confident, they will be fit enough, just nice to bed them into the squad earlier.

I still feel we need a couple of proven players we push the boat out for on 2 year deals!

Reeves I thought looked sharp last night, so find that a strange one in our situation.

Buckley-Ricketts last night was interchanging with Kerr which of them would be the centre forward to go and get thumped through the back of by their centre halves. Hardly a fair reflection on his ability to be honest.

Yeah, they basically got a game/training time due to lack of numbers.

I was willing Reeves to do well because of his goalscoring record.

But he's had the opportunity he hasn't done it. If he can't muster a goal in two halves against Penrith or Chester when he's fighting to earn a contract, would you back him to come on and score in the last 15 minutes when we need an equaliser at Bradford or Swindon?

We probably don't need Waters as we have bridge and scougall but morais is a decent 4th division striker. Didn't he score a hat trick against us playing for St Albans?
Edited to say morais got 6 goals in 8 starts last season!

Doesn't sound too bad a player but as they paid a lot for him then the best we could look at there I reckon is a loan deal, his wages must be massive - I cannot see him ripping up his lucrative contract to come here for peanuts for a year.

I rated Keith as our manager but I wouldn't be happy with us going to him cap in hand now that he is Northampton manager taking all his rejects, and after Holdsworth slagging him off at every opportunity then he will probably give us a pile of shite on big money.

Jervis did ok, but his open goal miss in front of the away end at Hartlepool will forever cloud a lot of people’s memories of him here.

Wasn’t Pressley’s biggest fan last season but feel sorry for him now. He is being failed so badly by him.

However poor it could conceivably be at the current rate, it is going to be very difficult to level any real criticism at the manager (any manager) if he is given such a low quality, threadbare squad to work with and at such short notice.
It was made clear last season that Pressley thought that they weren't fit enough to play the way he wants them to, now his contract has been renewed, obviously based on future plans around this way of playing and he's going to be given a maximum of 2 weeks to do all the fitness work on any incoming largely ramshackle bunch of misfits and unwanteds.
Doesn't matter though, For whatever reason John Sheridan will probably bare the brunt of the blame for this season when it goes to $hit.

He waited until the 11th hour in January for Yates who didn't come. A decision that cost us a place in the play offs and a couple of hundred grand. If he repeats his error this window he should be gone

However is it? I genuinely don't know although I doubt it.
Surely that is the role of the Director of Football? I assume that Pressley will have known the budget and will also have presented a list of possibles to the DoF at the same time, who agreed to employ and extend his contract based on his (DoF's) ability to go out and make them happen (within the budget) . Otherwise, it suggests that no one is doing their job!

Given our serious lack of numbers, why such a small number of triallists so far?

Assumed at first we were going for quality over quantity, but that clearly isn't the case.

I suspect he’s probably on plan Y and Z by now. Holdsworth seems to have f-ed up / failed to sign that many players we must be that far down the list, hence us still bringing in low pedigree trialists 2 weeks before the season starts.

It must be so frustrating for Pressley being let down so much by that clown.

So had Holdsworth been negotiating with? White who joined Blackburn, who else?
