An account has appeared on Twitter, from someone professing to be at a Championship Club, aged under 23, who is going to ‘come out’ in the next few weeks.

Be interesting to see the reaction to this, it’s created quite a stir already!

The best reaction would surely be for people to say that they don’t give a shit who it is, because it makes no difference.
As much as one can see that ‘coming out’ is a big deal for a person themselves and they would be anxious about how their friends and family react, the wider public surely don’t care.
If QPR’s second choice left-back comes out as gay, then good luck to him, but it doesn’t bother me either way.

It's a sad reflection that in 2019 he feels the need to tell his chairman and manager before going public.

Carlisle's had a couple of gay players that I know of. I wouldn't have thought anybody was bothered nowadays what you are.

Personally I think the lad is either a huge publlicity seeker, an idiot or very badly advised.

To announce to the media that he is going to announce himself gay in a few days time is just crazy. His statement challenges the press and anyone else to find out who he is and out him in the enterim.

His statement makes news, the press dig for news, it's what they do, he can't call foul if they find him before he is ready to speak again, and other gay footballers who had no intention of coming out (absolutely no reason why they should if they don't want to) could easily be caught up in collateral damage.

He's already had the conversations with his family and his work. The folk that matter to him know, so why make the whole thing into a media drama?

Probably needs to be done to show that no one will actually care and people can get on with its now instead and keeping its secret, As at the end of the day all what matters is how you perform on the pitch .

Although you'll probably get the few who will shout homophobia from the Terrence's but like racism you would hope people will tell them where to go.

Also seems very fake , the age part makes me think it's to create a rumour mill

Owners like the stadium, full of Sh!T

Screams ‘Ooh,look at me’ although to be fair, all of my gay friends have done this when coming out.

Sadly for him, nobody cares any more, except maybe his agent and transfer fee

Or it's a hoax.
Leeds had a player came out after he left. Americal lad, Robbie Rogers.
No one gave a [censored] to be honest.

To be fair, I think its a good thing that he'll come out publicly - hopefully it will pave the way for other gay players - there must be loads!

Unfortunately, he probably will be known as 'the gay footballer', but hopefully, like when Gareth Thomas came out, people will applaud him for it, then move on swiftly.

It's the way that the debate is framed about football and that some obsevers will casually imply that the majority of football fans are sexist, racist, homophobic, xenophobic but are enlightened by atuff like this.
Whereby some people could be guilty of these things many are quite well educated , have jobs and are able to function in society in a responsible way.

Dont like the set up of a big reveal with clues to who it might be, because it leads to people speculating about load of different players.

One of those I would assume isn't a big deal these days, but I'm sure the reaction is way bigger than I'd appreciate.

Who really cares about who is gay and who isn't as the way people are wont effect your own life.

The press are less and less interested in this sort of story these days unless it is a politician who is gay as they are usually old, married and have a fondness for young boys.

When i was at school being seen/called gay was the biggest insult there was 20 ish years ago! even teachers would take the piss out of those they presumed gay.

It's a none thing now! thankfully. Being in schools today the youth of today are far more supportive/understanding then it ever was at my school they should be proud of that.

Up until recently, if you were seen as gay it was interlinked to being a pervert/paedophile etc when that obviously wasn't the case.

I disagree though, the press will be very interested. There'll big them up and then drag them down soon enough, its what they do.

Regardless of whether this is genuine or not I don't believe that statement is true.

It's not as if there's loads (any) openly gay or bisexual Male footballers at the minute is there?

Interesting thread. A lot of pride asking 'Who's arsed' while others validate the need for stuff like this by posting homophobic 'jokes', sometimes at the same time. You can't say 'Homophobia has already been addressed' while making some pretty harsh jokes.

I bet that this Championship player has a 'limper' wrist than Joe Hart at Euro 2016.

Hope that this helps :)
