Any suggestions of strikers we should sign? (Make it sensible) My suggestion would be Reece Edmunson from Leeds scored a lot of goals last season in the U23s or Sorensen from Newcastle

What’s the point in posting “new player” in the lineup of a thread called “Team for 1st Game (as it stands)”

Seems to happen all the time and it just irritates me. Surely the whole point in a thread like this is to create a team from the players we currently have, otherwise what’s the point in it?

Wouldn’t have McKirdy in midfield far too lightweight.

We're not gonna play a 4-4-2. Chances are Jones playing as a 6, then a 2 of Scougall and Bridge in the center (which doesn't cut it for me, but whatever...), and then 3 up front. Imagine the situation if Jones gets injured, we'll be in the deep stuff, and won't have any defensive stability in the team unless we play 5 atb, but then we don't have the midfield runners to play with 2 in the center. Either way, without further midfield signings, we'll have one of the worst midfields in the league.

Well I’m just guessing by looking at them, but he’s probably heavier than Scougall

Dont care where they play as long as somebody puts the ball in the bloody net more times than they do.

I think Mckirdy when he goes on the jinking runs he reminds me of Beardsley. I can remember several goals Beardsley did where he went passed four players then the goalie. Can’t remember EXACTLY where he played. I was only 9

My dad often says Beardsley is the best natural footballer he's seen player for Carlisle , found a highlight reel of him,

Peter Beardsley's CUFC spell , was just slightly before my time , but always thought he was a lovely player.
Him and Gazza were my non-CUFC favourite players as a youth
The most talented player I can remember watching and thinking , the boy's a bit special is M Jansen.
It would be nice to think we might get someone of that ilk having a stint with us , even for just 6 months.

Playing Liverpool in the FA Cup I will always remember a diagonal ball Molby hit inch perfectly and Beardlsey running onto it controlled it instantly running at a speed most League 2 players couldn't run without the ball.

I used to get in the waterworks for free when I was a kid, watching Beardsley from that vantage point at the front with nobody else in the end was brilliant (well me and Gordon who used to pace up and down most of the game) what sticks with me about him was the amount of times he would walk the ball into the net and more times than enough leave the keeper stranded on the deck. Superb player my best ever.

Arguably one of England's finest talents of all time let alone Carlisle's - before my time but I can imagine that he was a joy to watch in his early career.

He was without doubt, the best Carlisle player in my lifetime.

Beardsley definitely one of the best along with Stan Bowles. Been lucky enough to have seen some great players in Utd colours. Hughie Mac at his best still one of the best centre forwards I've ever seen.

I don't think our first 11 looks too bad, set up will depend on the opponent, I guess... 'keeper and back 4 look solid (imho)... Was wondering if Byron had some influence on the new guy given the Scunny connection?

I think our first 11 looks much weaker than the first 11 of the 2nd half of last season when we were 16th over that period.

Once we get injuries and suspensions we will be whipping boys.

I just wanted to say thank you for reminding me of Gordon. God he had stamina ,all game he’d be running up and down. He certainly didn’t need a strength and conditioning coach.

I would go along with that only as you say, I think Bridge will start instead of Scougall.

If the centre forward comes in today, Hope is fit from say next week, the addition of one more forward that SP alluded to, I think we are looking good. NC said budgets do not matter where you end up last year, and referred to Accrington and Notts County, DH stated he wants promotion, SP wants fast attractive football, there will be a much of a muchness again this season.

Yes that’s him. He’s aged a little. Haven’t we all! Also I don’t think he’ll be upto much running in the waterworks end now. We all lose a bit of pace

Budgets don't decide were you finished but they certainly are a big factor . Yes you can pick out isolated instances of success on a smaller budget being successful and vice versa with big budgets . But plotted spending against league position over the last 30 years you would see a clear correlation. That Generally (not saying always ) the more you spend the better you don't , So to say budgets don't matter is actually crap.

Although I actually don't mind the squad we've built so I'm optimistic. I will make my decision on players when they at for us and not on their past. As in January we buzzed about the signings like Cullen based on his past .

I hope they have printed enough programmes as sales will go through the roof today. Nadesan still has an ankle injury so may be a sub rather than starting. Otherwise both sides could have the same number of outfield players who played for us last season - one.
