I was taking the P with DBs post before.
The crickets been exciting this year, we will go on to win the ashes now.
We were lucky in the final with the overstepped six and the overthrows - that’s cricket though.
I can remember watching full days of test cricket when wee and seeing the Waugh brothers knock us everywhere and Warne taking the piss so it’s brill when we beat them.
At least we’re not Stockport

Always a concern which England will turn up, think the soft one`s turned up this time, still, live in hope of a miracle. Anyway going to St James` Park this evening to see an England team which I`m sure will do well.

I'm ok with Denley I think he's shown a bit of promise he was put up order to accommodate Roy who was out to a good ball today and not a bad shot

Denly this Summer: 23, 10, 18, 11, 30, 26, 12, 50, 4 - Avg: 20.44
That includes two Innings v Ireland.

Yea he's not the future just thought he has looked a decent player with good temperament
I would add Northeast to your picks however have heard management not sure of his professionalism internet rumours mind

In a 5 day Test a team needs a lead of at least 200 to enforce the follow on.
So we need to get to 298 to avoid it.

Northeast is nearly 30, I’d rather integrate the younger lads.
I’d rather bring someone like Livingstone into the fold.
And get Sam Curran into the mix too ahead of the likes of Overton...

The thing with Overton is he is quicker and a lot taller than Curran,Overtons brother is quicker still however a bit wayward at times,He has attributes to become very good can bang it in short and get bounce a lot like Broad I can see why they picked him
There are better batsman and better bowlers than Curran in a way he's vying with Stokes for that all rounder position
Both the Overton and Curren brothers have a lot of potential.
I like Sam Curran but I don't think he's taken many wickets this year which may have been a clincher although he has put in some very good performances for England
I didn't realise Northeast was that old tbh

Third Seamer is our difficult decision at present. Curran is a left armed bowler which is a massive plus IMO, as it adds a different dimension to the bowling attack. I like Woakes, but a combination of he looks knackered and Root hasn’t fancied him in the last couple Tests. Overton was only picked for this Test as he once got Steve Smith out!
Would it be a surprise if Jimmy retired from Test Cricket soon? Archer the heir apparent, and he’ll look after the quick stuff opening with Broad (Who at 33yo won’t be around forever?)...

I don't think Jimmy will retire it's a calf injury they can take a while but it's not like it's a shoulder back or hip needing an operation I'm pretty confident he will continue Broad has looked as good as ever really,Archer is the future as long as they leave him be and don't tinker they ruined Steve Finn changing his action the player I would love to overcome his niggling injuries is Mark Wood he's as quick as Archer and in Tandem would be very exciting he is a very skillful bowler
Woakes will play plenty of games he looked jaded at present and I would have Folkes behind stumps and lose Buttler he's a one day player in my mind and probably keep Bairstow to bat if he didn't throw his toys out the pram about losing gloves.Folkes is quite possibly the best gloveman in world and a neat and patient batsman

Root has said he intends to carry on unfortunately, pity there aren't any obvious contenders. Root has failed in the big moments as a batsman and captain this summer, awful innings in the World Cup Final typified it.
Buttler has been touted as a better captain but his place in the team is shaky.
I'm not that keen on the culture of the current team, they get very defensive and stubborn about any criticism and are in denial about some of their failings. There are a lot of awkward characters, Bairstow, Broad & Anderson among them, and Root isn't strong enough to put them in their place.
I hope whoever replaces Trevor Bayliss takes a stronger line with Root and kicks some arses.

Root's interview yesterday reminded me of pressley. Desperately going on about the positives when you're clearly second best. You have to hope different things are being said in the dressing room. We're paying the price for neglecting red ball cricket and with next summer's stupid hundred idea it's only going to get worse. Ditch all the white ball specialists, including Bairstow. 6 proper batsmen, foakes keeping wicket, 3 best steamers, best spinner.

Given that we only play 5-Test series against Australia now and 4 Tests against India and South Africa, they could be waiting a while for a dead rubber in our favour.
Hard to disagree with your team though given the lack of options. Sam Hain at Warwickshire had a better season this year, he might yet be one for the future, likewise Surrey spinner Amar Virdi.

Seems to be very little enthusiasm for The Hundred from the public and the media thus far. Nobody seems to want it apart from the ECB. Could be a huge embarrassing flop.

Same old pals act. A chance to bring in fresh faces.
We've not won the Ashes and so a chance to give some of the younger lads a chance. I'm not bothered about squaring the series, I'm more concerned about developing younger players who can bat properly.
Ben Foakes should have been brought in as WK.
Bairstow, Buttler and Roy have had enough chances. Denly worth another chance. I hope that at least they give Curran a game this time.
Root is a poor captain, lacks tactical awareness. As captain his batting has suffered. Time for a change. Also let him bat at 4.
The selectors have their heads in the sand. They will not admit they made a mistake in picking Anderson when his fitness was unproven. Got us a bowler short so on the backfoot from the very beginning. Shuffling the batting order changes nothing.

I would like to see the toss rotated,4-1 inthe aussies in this series,not saying that it would have made any difference but i have seen 5-0 in the past and it doesn't seem fair.

Case of too little too late this Test.
Time for those in charge to properly separate the Test side from the T20/ODI side - Yes some will feature in both, but not to the detriment of Test’s please!
Going forward to NZ and S.Africa this Winter, my Test Squad would be:
Openers - Burns, Sibley, Crawley.
Middle - Root, Pope, Bairstow, Stokes, Hain, Livingstone.
Keeper - Foakes.
Spin - Leach, Bess.
Pace - Anderson, Broad, Archer, S.Curran, Woakes,
No room for Denly or Roy, and I’d put Buttler as the new white ball Captain. Gloves away from Bairstow so he can concentrate on scoring again, needs some runs or his place in danger.
Those in charge need to ensure more four day games in late July and August. Yes T20 is a part of the game now, but it’s taken over the main Summer months!
