Pressley's Replacement?

Frank is absolutely bang on. SP has implemented a new style of play with a basically new squad, these transitions take time ffs. Like mentioned above JS was in charge during some absolutely abysmal displays in his short reign. I remember driving back from Middlesbrough for back to back home defeats against Grimsby and Morecambe last season and getting to the point where I was ready to stop going to home games for a while as I'd lost the enjoyment out of going to the games until that Newport game. Both games were absolutely dire and we never looked like scoring against what were surely in the worst 5 teams in the league last season. SP deserves time to drill his style into the team as this is now his team compared to a team put together last minute before January deadline day where for a club like ours it's only cast offs and loans which are available.

I remember those 2 games. Can't argue with that. I also remember that we beat Oldham 3 1 in between them which lifted the spirits a little.

Hit it on the head Marko really - once you see confusion in the performances then it isn't down to the players but preparation and managing them properly.

I remember those dreadful home defeats too.. it was no coincidence that things picked up when Grainger and Devitt returned to the team.

If we lose today and Colchester draw or win and Oldham, Stevenage and Scunthorpe win we could be bottom tonight.

Sacking Presley would do nothing good long term for the club unless we sat facing relegation after New Year.

A few folk on here understand that there needs to be a transition period and bumps in the road are natural but it’s fair that supporters can have their say whenever.

Given that Pressley was likely fortunate to get the job permanently back at Easter time, there should be a set target (e.g. 12 games) before things are assessed.

This squad is his. Forget about sacking him. Keep the faith - it is only five games in out of at least 52 - until the going really gets tough or you jump back on the bandwagon if things go well.

In all fairness, he did lose most of the squad weeks before he took the job, financial restrictions made it impossible to keep a lot of their team from last season.
The best of their players moved elsewhere just before Clark took over.

He's still shit though.

Sol Campbell not worth the hassle IMO. I'd probably have Grainger and Skelton vying for favouritism, whilst Coyle may well remain the preference of DH. Think it's fairly common knowledge he was keen on him last time.

As a close follower of the reds and occasional watcher of the blues I would be devastated if Danny Grainger was appointed at this early stage, in the short time he has been with the club he has engaged with supporters and turned a hit and hope team into one that's worth watching, and getting the best out of each individual (Dave Symington is absolutely on fire)I have no doubt that Danny will go onto better things in the future but hopefully United will look at someone with more experience as the current squad need a miracle worker

Regardless of who next gets the Carlisle United managers job it has to be said that Pressley's tenure so far has ben very disappointing to say the least based on tactics, fitness of the players, signings and of course points.

The best players in the side are from previous regimes which says a lot since Pressley has had two transfer windows to work with now and we are steadily getting worse.

My guess is that any new manager we get will be scratching his bollocks like Curle did when inheriting Kavanagh's squad thinking ' what the [censored] do I do with this lot' and having a fire sale to any Nationwide North team that will have them for the worst offenders.

I really don't know why he signed that Hayden send him out on loan to get some game time till Christmas if allowed.

There was a weird bit at the end of Pressley’s press conference today.

James Phillips asked him how important he thinks the travelling fans will be this weekend for this final game? And then corrected himself and said “game”.

I wonder if he’s heard something about what will happen if result goes against him Saturday, or maybe he’s wishfully thinking it so just said what’s on his mind without thinking.

Coyle has almost as bad a managerial record as Pressley so if he ends up as SP's successor then its a case of out of the frying pan & into the fire.

We were on such a good run I don't think that anyone cared as TW and Murray were also possible contenders for the job I would imagine, though that game probably ended that.

Surely if you were going for a former player you would give Peter Murphy a shot ahead of Grainger?

He's managed Annan for over 100 games now and has a win % of over 40% - for a club the size of Annan (with all due respect) in the division they're in, that's impressive.

Pressley's career win % overall is just over 36%, his Carlisle record is more like 32% (which is pitiful given the situation when he arrived). The only time Pressley has managed a win % over 40% was at Falkirk over five years ago now - since then, his managerial record has been complete toilet.

Owen Coyle's career record win % is around 38% but is skewed upward by his early stints at Falkirk and St Johnstone between 2003 & 2007. Since he left Burnley in 2010 his record has been worse than Pressley's.

When does Tommy Wright's court case start?
Peter Murphy would be a good start for me. Annan play some decent stuff, made the play offs. Pressley just looks clueless. The whole thing just smacks of lack of common sense. And he can't change it because we don't have a left back. Mckirdy and Thomas not playing. Can anybody see this getting better?

We need someone who will get the best out of this limited squad, which Pressley just isn’t doing.

Get the best out of the mavericks and slackers like McKirdy and Thomas.

Stop imposing systems and fitness regimes that the players we have aren’t suited to or capable of.

I think we need someone who has either played or managed in League Two before and to quote Keith Curle “knows what it takes to win games at this level”.

My shortlist would be:
1. Ian Evatt
2. Derek Adams
3. Lummy (even though he won’t go for it but he might do well and is well liked by fans.)
4. Owen Coyle
5. Zigor Arandale/ Michael Bridges

Why would anyone put Lummy before Peter Murphy who has managed over 100 games ?
I like lummy,but the next boss needs at least some experience.

I’ve been to a lot of Annan games in the past 2 seasons and they were decent but I think he needs a job higher up first before us. And Lummy has pretty much seen every team and the majority of players in league 2. If you go on league 2 experience lummy wins by a country mile. Plus Annan have gone way downhill since last season the footballs been shocking to say the least.

In fact Murph and Lummy joint managers. Why not Murphy has the managerial experience and Lummy knows league 2 inside out. Their both fighters and have an affection for the club. You could do a lot worse.

The problem with a lot of Managers as they go through their career is they fail to adapt , Owen coyle is a great example his tactics were really good for s the first few years till people worked how to beat him , He hasn't adapted so now cant keep a job.

The date set for trial was last Monday but there's been no update in the press. The defendants were charged by the City of London Fraud Squad so it would likely be an Old Bailey trial. I am wondering if the case has been quietly dropped by the CPS leaving the charges on file.
