Why do you have a problem with Green energy? Even if global warming is a myth (despite all scientific evidence ) a massive conspiracy from the Chinese as the leader of Brazil says while receiving millions in back hands to cut down the Amazon. Then what's so bad about cheaper , safer and cleaner air ?

Greta Thunberg recently address a meeting with Corbyn, Caroline Lucas, Vince Cable and the parliamentary leaders of the SNP and Plaid Cymru.
It looks like a pure exercise in virtue signalling to me by politicians at the expense of a poor kid who reportedly is on the autistic spectrum.
Climate Change is a serious question which requires complex and difficult answers, which a sixteen year old is in no position to give. Furthermore a sixteen year old should not be expected to address this problem. She should be doing what teenagers do, socialising, making friends, listening to music and generally enjoying her youth. Those youthful years will pass her by as they do for everyone and they cannot be remembered once they have gone.
Those politicians should be ashamed of themselves.

Anyway Marko, you are an expert on providing alternative facts to dilute an argument-rather like your continued issues with employment rates and zero hours contracts-which have been proven to be wide of the mark by recent research. Its amazing Corbyn has dropped this particular football.
Having spent a week in India, I can categorically say that we are totally wasting our time with climate change in the UK-they and the Chinese make us look like saints.

thesilentone wrote: I really don't know why people in the UK get so hung up about saving the planet and climate change, and why they think our Government should do something.
Our Governments(s) are, and have been doing something, spending a fortune on alternative green energy, insulating old properties, massive re-cycling schemes (contrary to what Marko says, it does NOT all go to landfill, the landfill tax escalator makes sure of that)
There are also hundreds of on-going environmental schemes, such as re-foresting, and establishing peat-bog (posh name is sphagnum moss). Sometimes to the detriment of humans as flooding is now a major issue.
The UK is well on its way to meet it's 2030/50 emission targets.
The major polluters are the developing Countries, and who are we to tell them what to do, after we have already done it ?
It is predicted that the European and American population growth will slow then decline over the next 50 years, and big increases in African Countries. Everyone has to eat, so how do we accommodate the changing diet of poor people as they become wealthier, and look after the Planet ?or do we just tell em not to ??

No slant , it's literally what you said silent stone , like most people who use the world "snowflake " you don't like it when you get pulled up for talking rubbish, Your one of those people who thinks they make a point but every aspect of it can be disproved. Like I say your knowledge is assumed not factual .thesilentone wrote: Like most snowflakes, you read something and then take out your own slant (or only take what suits you).
I did not say re-foresting was causing flooding, in fact quite the opposite. One of the major causes is the lack of additional flow to accommodate the deluges of rain in our rivers and drainage systems. Our forefathers build run-offs, drains, sluice gates, they cleared rivers and dredged the estuary's. We don't, we flood houses, but keep the cray-fish happy.
My argument clearly states what we are doing , please read again and you will see the main polluters of the Planet do not include the UK, so of course go and protest, but it would be better directing it at the perpetrators if your conscience will allow, as they are the poorest on the Planet.
As for your comparison to someone beating someone else up, sorry I don't understand your point, if this is a reflection of your back-ground, then email the Arabs, they regularly give the Women a good whipping.

Alan the issue is the you wrote it to get one message across , so you have that central focus on your mind which narrows your view point on what the others can percive what you meant , Yes it's clear not that you meant a young child should not be traveling across the ocean to make the points of a parent.Alan wrote: I've read my post over and over again and for the life of me I can't
see where I've condemned or ridiculed Greta.
All I see is a very vulnerable little girl a victim of pushy attention craving "right on" parents " who where prepared to to let their own child take a very risky journey across the Atlantic in the name of massaging their own egos.
As a parent and a grandparent I would never put my family in that kind of situation never mind alone with strangers.
Thankfully she is OK but rolling the dice like this will eventually end in tragedy.

China is actually taken steps to reduce greenhouse gases as well , they are actually ahead of the rest of the world in meeting the Paris agreement terms .Dancingbear wrote: And that 0.9% will no doubt be gobbled up by the Chinese.

The Government's aim is to reduce UK carbon emissions to zero by 2050, at an estimated cost of 1 TRILLION pounds!
If successful the UK will have managed to reduce the worlds carbon emissions by 0.9%.

Just had a look at the stats of the top 20 emmission producers from 2015 which it says is the most recent table. China produce 9040 million tonnes. South Africa are the only African country listed in 13th producing 430 million. We’re in 14th on 390 million. Your probably right that they’re trying to lower it but they’re starting from a very high base.

Yeah , but when you reduce it to per capita the difference looks far less extremeBluedazblue wrote:

So per capita they are producing way more emissions than we are.
