Ex-PL Stars Searching Out EFL Club for Investment...

I see on The Athletic today there is an exclusive from David Ornstein about a group of ex-Premier League stars - including Dennis Bergkamp, Henrik Larsson, Dirk Kuyt and Ronald Koeman - launching a prospective bid to takeover Wycombe last month.

The report makes for very interesting reading, relating to how they intend to make a club self-sustainable with academy investment, increased attendances and profile raising. Bergkamp would take over the running of the academy, whilst Kuyt would assist with coach development. Larsson would take a technical role and support current staff, who would remain in place. However, it would appear at time of writing that they are unlikely to complete their deal with Wycombe, due to an American-based businessman having access to more immediate capital to aid their cashflow issues.

With this in mind, the article suggests that the consortium will be moving on and hunting out another EFL ownership opportunity as quickly as possible.

Should we be getting this mob on the phone and showing them how much potential CUFC has? Or is it best avoided?

Wycombe in theory would be a perfect club for overseas investors. It is less than 30 minutes from Heathrow Airport in a prosperous catchment area.

True, and the article actually references location as a factor which made them attractive to the named consortium.

That said, we do boast a bigger catchment area for an academy, less competition from PL/ Champ clubs, a larger potential fanbase to tap into...and that's before doing the sums re: immediate investment required, which may actually lean in our favour against a club like Wycombe.

Sad thing is that it feels very pie in the sky writing all that. Shouldn't be though!

Anyone trying to take over Carlisle United needs to remain anonymous for at least two years while the negotiating rumbles on, even when the deal breaks down the names in question have to be attained by the power of deduction.

I was in contact with Kirdi another way, not twitter. And yrs, he did say Nixon was the magic hand and the block to any deal.
