I’ll have a go...

Collin 7
G Jones 6
Branthwaite 7
Mellish 6
Iredale 7
M Jones 5
Sagaf 6
Bridge 6
Thomas 6.5
McKirdy 6
Olomola 6

Hope 5
Loft 7
Carroll 6

Thought defence wasn’t too bad when you consider the inexperience. Mike Jones had a mare yesterday. Didn’t happen for McKirdy but Thomas grew into it as it went on. Loft is going to end up more useful than Olomola IMO...

Colin: 7 - nothing he could do about the goal, saved a poor penalty.

Jones: 6 - gets a lot of the ball going forward but Is very wasteful with it. Decent defensively.

Melish 7 - standard L2 performance, feel for him and Branthwaite no options when they have the ball to feet.

Branthwaite-7 hard to believe he’s only 17, composed and wants to bully the opposition CF.

Ierdale - 6 poor game by his standards but solid.

M Jones -4 one of them days when it doesn’t go for you kept showing and trying though - never a pen.

Sagaf - 5 quiet by his standards,

Bridge - 3 needs a break from the team, seems scared of the ball, doesn’t show for passes etc.. could be a player in their but needs confidence.

Mckirdy -6 extreamly quiet, gets a point for his goal however it went in.

Thomas -7 back to his best, beating men for fun, a decent striker would have had a couple of goals today.

Olomola- 5 poor, needs a goal.

Loft - 7 scored of the bench can’t ask for more.

Hope & Carroll - neither made much of a contirinution.

Pressley -8 took a lot of stick, but excellent changes yesterday and that back 4 is something we can finally build on. If he makes it to January, needs to get some better options up top and in midfield in.

Keeping the back 4 together will help them grow together as a unit, only add Knight Percival/Hayden if under pressure, please don't rush Webster back in far too slow.

If Kelvin is finished for the season we need another DM to support Jonah ASAP. And we need Scougal back to replace Bridge.

Loft needs to start in place of Fella and Thomas/McKirdy need to put early crosses in from deep rather than keep trying for the selfish glory option.

Sorenson needs to go, along with Carrol and Hallam needs to sort himself out of he'll be off to the Conference rather than League 1.

On Friday I’d start the team that finished the game yesterday.

Back 4, as new and young as they are, looked much more composed to what we’ve seen this season, if they get a run together they may improve! Much better than Webster and it’s great to see Branthwaite look so promising and confident, nice to have something to be positive about. Iredale getting a bit of stick here, but noticed yesterday he’s actually got a hell of a cross on him, wouldn’t mind him taking corners.

Our midfield is powderpuff, so I’d be willing to give Carol a few starts especially ahead of Bridge. Fela finds himself dropping so deep to help us win the ball in those areas.

On Fela, ultimately I like him, but he hasn’t been as good last few games and to be fair, Loft came on and made a real nuisance of himself. Thomas, especially in the second half had their left back on toast, and I feel Loft is more likely to get himself on the end of one of his crosses.

A massively important win. With morecambe winning defeat would have really put us in the shit.

But let’s not get away from the fact that it was a really poor performance. I thought we were good second half last week, but not today. Marginally better second half but still overall poor and boring as hell to watch. Such slow paced football and lack of energy. It’s completely the opposite to what Pressley banged on about us being all summer. Agree that the young back 4 looked promising. If Webster automatically gets his place back I think I’ll have a shit in my season ticket and throw it at pressley.

Collin 7 important penalty save that kept us in the game
G Jones 6 struggles against pace but plays to his limitations and does the basics
Branthwaite 8 bit of a shaky start but grew in confidence
Mellish 7 much better as left centre back than exposed at LB
Iredale 6 steady but needs to pass more quickly to the winger at times
M Jones 6 quite a few errors but never hides and is there to support the man with the ball
Sagaf 6 more errors than usual but pushed forward well in 2nd half
Bridge 6 still too fancy dan for me at times - play the easy ball for goodness sake - but has the potential to perform better
Thomas 7 some good runs but poor delivery at times
McKirdy 7 not sure why he was taken off, thought he was doing ok
Olomola 6 didn't get much decent service

Hope missed a simple header and largely anonymous
Loft put himself about and took his goal well
Carroll first thing he did was get booked. Obviously tired out after his 84th min appearance as he leapt on someone's back to be carried off at the end

4-3-3 suited us much better so need to stick with that or 4-4-2
We have Thomas and McKirdy wide with the potential to get at defences so we must get the ball out to them much more quickly if we are going to use them to our advantages. The build up was painfully slow at times. Fortunately Macclesfield played too deep in the 2nd half and gave us a bit more space.

Did I watch a different game or something because Mckirdy pretty anonymous in the first half but tbf it’s bridge who should be playing him in which he’s not doing. Either we add another defensive midfielder or put scougall back in when he’s fit because at least he opens up defensives. Loft gives us a target which fella doesn’t so Adam feels more confident going long.

Collin 7 - Pretty solid, poor pen but had to go the right way

G Jones 6 - Again, Solid, made himself available for the midfield to pass to all game, odd mishit pass - steady

Branthwaite 8 - Rock solid at the back, can clearly play the game and will only get better the more he plays

Mellish 7 - Did ok, pretty solid and better at bringing it out at the back than Webster et al.

Iredale 6 - Steady, didn't overlap or pass quickly enough to keep tempo going but was OK defensively

M Jones 4 - A poor game by his standards, gave the ball away a few times, needless fouls and a bit off the boil.

Bridge 3 - Terrible, totally off his game, hid all throughout the second half because it wasn't going his way, should've been hooked at half time

Sagaf 5 - Looks a busy player but failed to really influence the game, although didn't do a great deal wrong

Thomas 5 - Again, always looks busy and can clearly beat a man but lacks a brain and his decision making at times is clueless. Did put a few decent balls in the box though.

Olomola 5 - Ball stuck to him a few times but consistently drops far too deep leaving us with no-one up front - not sure if this is tactical by the manager or he just can't get into the game enough

McKirdy 5 - Like a dog chasing a balloon at times, lucky for his goal, looks short on confidence and provided very little going forward and nothing defensively

Subs:
Carroll 3 - Terrible
Loft 7 - Ran about well, tried to do the right things. Took his goal well - seems to be a hit or miss player.
Hope 5 - Missed a free-header in the box when he should have scored and provided very little else.

Pressley 4 - If it wasn't for Macclesfield missing a penalty and us being incredibly lucky we'd have lost the game. His tactics from the offset were clueless, far too much space down the right hand side due to the shape of the team which pulled the midfield all over the place (i.e. Bridge being pulled out to the right and Jones and Sagaf being totally exposed through the middle). Luckily threw Loft on at the right time to get him out of jail but if this is the fast flowing football he promised us then he's either deluded, clueless or he's signed the wrong players.

Overall a terribly under-par performance, but we got let off the hook by a poor Macclesfield team and two lucky goals.

Really shows how differently people see a game.

Jones "best player for us once again".....have to disagree... was very busy but gave away the ball a lot

M Jones was a disaster waiting to happen in the 1st half improved 2nd half but could easily have cost us the match.
Daft idea but for the cup game replace Bridge with Olomolu & stick Loft up front. Cant be any worse than yesterday.
And keep Webster on the bench

The problem with Bridge is he's receiving the ball too deep - plus he's abysmal defensively.

When he destroyed us playing for Northampton he was receiving the football in and around our penalty area. The way we play him he receives the ball either in our own half or way too deep to be influential.

His game is all about dropping his shoulder, beating a man then picking a pass. When he does this as a deep sitting midfielder all it does is give the opposition time to organise themselves defensively and close off his forward options. This makes him ineffective and unsuited to playing in a midfield three.

I'd play him as a traditional number ten, dropping in behind the centre-forward in a 4-4-2 - in the Beardsley type role sitting in the hole between the opponent's defence and midfield. This way he'd be receiving the ball further up the pitch and could use his technique to get behind the defence. However, in total honesty, he's begging to be dropped at the minute.

If we stick with a 4-3-3, then he's crying out to be replaced by Carroll. We need more bite in midfield and a player who can get things going at a higher tempo.

When he destroyed us playing for Northampton he was playing against our defence.

Our defence that was part of a team that had won the previous 7 games or something.
