Chris Beech Confirmed as Head Coach

I’m liking what I’m reading/hearing from fans of his previous clubs, ex players etc. Sounds like he’s a good coach who improves players he works with over time. Whether he’s the quick fix miracle worker that we need in this situation I’m unsure.

Feel this would have been a good appointment for the summer just gone, a full preseason to get his recruitment and team going. It still bugs the life out of me that we gave Pressley that new contract in the summer despite him proving how shit he was last season. Now we’ve had to pay to get rid and the new guy is stuck with Pressley’s mess. That decision that 99% of fans at the time could see was wrong, has to go down as one of the worst of this boards long list of horrendously bad decisions.

And if you read his interview you'll see that he says he didn't get what he wanted

I take that to mean the board said " Do you want the bloody job or not ? " If that's a yes then shut your mouth and do as Mr Holdsworth tells you.

I don’t get this slagging of Gav Skelton, he’s a very well thought of coach and players speak highly of him, he was asked to step in and manage his local team who wouldn’t have done that? I can’t believe people are slating him for not turning around our fortunes in 2 games.

Give over you bloody clown, how on earth can anybody blame Gav for the current mess, yes he was part of the previous regime but do you honestly think he had a major say?? Its soley down to the manager as to who he signs and how they are going to play and if you are the head coach or assistant manager then the final decision does NOT lie with you. All the major decisions was Pressley's, and Pressley's only, and that's why he had to go and Gav is still here.

Think that actually says more about the manager rather than the players, can you honestly think that the players would 'need a cuddle' when Sheridan was here?? I'm sure that he would tell them in the not so polite terms to "go away"!! Hopefully the new guy will be somewhere in between, (ie. Not frightened to give them a bollocking but also not bothered about giving them a "cuddle") from time to time.

I maybe a glass half full person, but he reminds me a bit of Mick Wadsworth, who didn't have much of a track record before he came to us.

I think he had a partial say as assistant manager,which is why I said he was "at least partly to blame " if he doesn't have any influence at all then what's the point in him being there?
I might be a "bloody clown" but even I know that at Carlisle United it's not "soley down to the manager as to who he signs " it's down to ewm through Holdsworth...
Thirdly, I think the main reason "Gav" is still here is that seen as Chris Beech has never managed before he has no backroom staff of his own to bring with him.

Beech has got to be an improvement on the last incumbent if nothing else. If you'd picked somebody off the street to manage the team after Sheridan they couldn't have done much worse.

As for Skelton of course he'd have an input but Pressley would have the last say on team selection, tactics, substitutions etc.

They're not the best set of players we've ever had granted but I don't think they're bottom four if given the right direction.

I'm quietly confident we'll move up the league.

Always feels wrong to me that everything is blamed on one bloke while others seem immune from criticism.
Don’t know who has done what but when you look at the standard of football we have produced, it seems reasonable to assume that it is not just Pressley who has underperformed.

The fact that Gav has been given an 18 month contract the same as CB means they succeed or fail together.

Fail and they`re both history!

As i have mentioned before.After the Blackpool game Gav was interviewed about the game and he said 1 or 2 players had made a good case to be included for Saturday ( Hayden ) ,When sat arrivedhe wasnt even in the squad, this told me that Gav had no influence in team selection.

The only worry I have with Skelton is he’s one of the coaches and it’s been pretty evident all season that the coaching the players have been getting has been of a poor standard. You don’t really look at any player and say you can see he's improved since the start of the season. We’ve just looked a really poorly coached “team” of individuals. Obviously Pressley was the main coach so it’s largely down to him but surely Skelton has to take some resonsibility.

That’s the thing that encourages me most about Beech, he’s by all accounts a good coach, something we’re crying out for. Not expecting miracles today though after 2 training sessions.

I am more critical of our players than the coaches. Not quite sure where some of them think their careers will take them after this season. Branthwaite aside, not sure there will be any lucrative contracts coming their way. Players with a decent attitude will play well under anyone, as some players showed under Sheridan.

I left a lot of Games in the pressley era wondering what they actually do on the training pitch. Players not seemingly knowing what their position is supposed to be, where their team mates are supposed to be playing etc. It was just an unorganised mess most of the time. Badly managed and badly coached.

Preying Chris Beech can change this.

If a player is sat down and shown videos of how an opponent scores his goals then he scores in the exact same way Who is to blame ?

Initial thoughts on CB.

Far to early to tell if he will be any good or not, however it's refreshing to hear his interview's, he genuinely seems happy to be here unlike JS who oozed misery, also seems to very normal unlike SP who seems slightly deranged.

I looked over a number of times to see his reaction to the game as it progressed.
He appeared to be calm, chatted to his assistant now and then, stayed semi hands in pocket throughout except when his hand went up for every decision.
I actually liked the calm appearance and demeanour which probably passed on to the team.
One point I did notice was the number of times he had Mike Jones come over to him. He should be captain.

I like the simplicity of how he appears to see the game.

Let's face it, the majority of footballers aren't the brightest sparks - so communicating a simple message to them effectively is key to achieving improvement / success.

Over complicating the game and surrounding yourself with analysts and mountains of statistics at tier four level is a recipe for disaster. You bring success by doing the basics correctly and getting the simple things right.

The impression he's given so far is that he understands this.

It is slightly worrying he selected Webster last week on the other hand.

The biggest miss this season is Danny Grainger i think people forget the influence and goals he contributed last year. We desperately need another leader like him and we dont have one. Should be a priority in January to sign a experienced player who can lead. Beech may have that in his locker i hope.

If he can replicate a lot of what Hill and himself did at Dale we will be happy,they played some very good stuff were not afraid to bring youngsters through and you might find a simplified approach may and it's a big may bring about better performance's from the likes of Webster especially if the defence gets better protection from what's in front of them

I'm not sure he was overly impressed with Carrol last week although I may of interpretated his interview wrongly

I feel rather sorry for Mr. Beech. He may be a nice guy and a great coach, but the players at his disposal are absolute toilet.

I think some of them are capable of Improving with a decent bit of coaching, but we do need strengthening in jan.

I’d be worried if it was February and we were in this state, but we have a new head coach with a full month before January to work out what he needs to bring in to get us out of this shit.
